When NeoGAF member MMaRsu extracted confidential content right from under Intellisponse's noses, several media assets were leaked. Images and videos of apparently upcoming games to be announced at 2008's E3 Media and Business Summit soon proliferated the Internet, and according to the information extracted from the marketing firm, the gameplay video leaked was of a game simply called Crucible. Not "The Crucible," but "Crucible."

MMaRsu explicitly said the leaked video was from a game called 'Crucible' - Image 1

Remember that name? It's the same name that appeared on Sega's survey for gamers back in 2006, which was tendered in aims to pinpoint a good title for a new horror, action title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This project was to be in the care of developer Silicon Knights and was themed around a hero that would be gifted with insane powers, but also seduced into sin, evil, and corruption. Now check out the leaked video:

Unfortunately, Sega's Steve Groll says this isn't the game they're making - in name or appearance:

That video is not the game that Silicon Knights is creating for us. I have no idea if it is a game they are working on for someone else, but it’s definitely not the project that Silicon Knights and SEGA are producing. I can’t reveal any info about the game we currently have in development, but I can tell you that it is not titled ‘The Crucible.’ More news about our game coming soon.

Now while most Internet streams do say that the leaked video title was called "The Crucible," information from MMaRsu was verified to only state "Crucible," which is exactly what the title was worded as back in 2006 in the gamer survey. Also, it's classified as an action, adventure game, which is pretty close to "an open free-roaming action horror game."

In 2006, Sega conducted a survey asking gamers for a good horror game title - Image 1

But if this isn't Sega's game, then exactly who owns it? And more importantly, who's making it? We suppose we'll get our answers as soon as E3 arrives, since that's when PR lips come loose in the wake of all the excitement. Stay tuned for more updates as we get them.
