Replecating data 2-4 times over so they can get decent seek/load times without installing 20+ gigs onto the hardrive....
If it's not that, it's just a bunch of HD CGI cutscenes......it's not a big mystery....
Even the most graphicaly intense games on PC (Crysis) do not exceed 10 gigs, so why should this game (especially when it doesn't look half as good as crysis)....
Why does everyone want to compair games to Crysis now? The game was like a Playboy Model, beautiful to look at and nothing going on in the head. Call me when that game gets a good story.
want to find out then buy a PS3 to play this game...
if not then stop complaining about the production of a game you won't be able to play on your 360 anyway... XBox owners are so pathetic, why do you all complain if a PS3 game takes the option of maximizing the Blu Ray disk??? Is it because your XBox don't have those options at all??? envy is a sad thing.... don't tell me it's not envy cause what in the hell are you all yapping about.
the game takes 50 GBs... our PS3s can handle it so no sweat... it doesn't hurt the game at all but on the other hand helped it altogether to be better... so what the hell are you all whining about???
and i say again... cause your XBoxes can't do it and for you that is hard to accept.
not in the envy... I don't know what it is.... but what hurts a game to be 50GB? nothing....
what hurts to have wonderful CG movies in HD? nothing so... why you attack the game with that?
The thing is, is that the series is famous to be a long game and this will not exception and more to be the finale of the series and for what everybody can saw, it will be one of the best looking games for now in a console... I always liked the series; the less? the second one.
learn some spanish for you Someone..
i don't know if my memory fails me but your primary language is Spanish right??? anyway i know ur on my PSN buddy list and i can easily check...
i'll look up Spanish for envy.
is Spanish and it's a little difficult for me because here we never practice.. well, not everybody, my work sometimes. So I have to think it and translate it because the translator never do it right. If you go to a spanish to english translator mess all the meaning so everything I said is in my head. Thats why too many errors, the same I write is the way I will talk it so...
you just popped yourself in the head this time.
now we know what happens when an xbox fan dont know how to contradict a PS3 fact.
ways to play MGS4...
1. buy a PS3
2. hope/bug konami ports MGS4 to Xbox360 on 8 DVD's or
3. hope konami at least ports MGS4 to 4 DVD's even if everything is scaled down.
fact is Microsoft wont adapt bluray to xbox 360 and heck it will be very hard for konami to port a gigantic space eating triple a game to a small capacity disc.
i know its somewhat impossible (marketing wise) but if you xbox fans are given the chance to buy an xbox 360 version of MGS4 on a single DVD disc but the remaining 40gb of data will be streamed from microsoft live server to your HDD, would you bite it?
------------------------------------------------------------
and people like the HD CGI cutscenes on games that are engaging such as MGS4.
we would gladly install MGS4 on our PS3 HDD even if it eats 90 percent of the HDD space, because we can easily reclaim that space after finishing the whole game.
i have a good dual core pc with decent overclocking, 2gb ddr2 ram and a geforce 8800gts640 and crysis still doesnt cut it for me,
a game with great graphics is NOTHING if it is BORING to play. MGS4 is tried, tested and proven to hook me from start to finish. MGS4 im sure will be worth the admission.
oh and gets your facts right next time.
there is no such thing as replicating data on discs,
its somewhat useless. the ps3 can easily use the HDD for cache of reused files.
You re giving them a bad name.
Not sure about mgs4, but previous mgs were real time cut scenes, rather graphically detailed. Not sure why it would be CG
Well as for Crysis worst game i've played in years sure graphics were ok...But not a game i'd buy again any time soon.
AS for MGS4 looks interesting the 50gb could be extras etc, don't forget the director cuts for the 2nd and 3rd MGS...
If this doesn't have the extras in expect a Directors cut version...6 months after release
ALSO remember Metal Gear Solid: Online starter pack comes WITH THIS GAME so the directors cut might come without that.
As for it being ported it won't and thats no bad thing, the series started on PSX systems and should stay there as thats where the fanbase is, Plus I hate to say it but I highly doubt that the 360 would have the power to run MGS...or Uncharted for that matter.
Still until MGS comes out its safe to say its nothing but an expensive dvd/Bray player...
"Plus I hate to say it but I highly doubt that the 360 would have the power to run MGS...or Uncharted for that matter."
why are ps3 fans so obsessed with power all the time. :-) from what i've seen and heard, the 360 has more than enough power for those games, it has about the same power as the ps3 (thats why the multiformat games look the same, even though they looked much better on xbox last gen, so stop making excuses about the ps3 and 360 this gen guys).
the only problem is space on the disc, not power. so if the 360 cant do those games, its because DVD hasn't got the space and if its not easy to split the game across multiple discs.
we wait and see what really takes up all the space on the blu-ray disc shatterdome. :-)
Data replication serves no purpose on Bluray. Load times are constant everywhere across the disc unlike DVD, and seek times are far less since data is packed more densely.
In case you're thinking of Oblivion, Bethesda denied they were doing that shortly after the FUD/rumor started.
MGS does not use FMV.
PC games are not comparable due to the heavy installation process.
Graphics aren't a good measure of how much space a game takes up. Massive amount of textures, levels, characters and audio can balloon up quite fast.
That and this game does look as good as Crysis.
Actually, you're right, except the Crysis bit. This game has nice visuals, but it doesn't even compare to Crysis. I might be a PS3 fanboy, but I'm an educated fanboy, although I do enjoy the Nintendo portables as well... Anyway, Crysis is coming to PS3 with tons of bonus content and such, but compare the two games on the same system when they get released.
Now, I don't know how big this game will be, apparently it'll take 20 hours to beat, but one of the main reasons a lot of space is being taken up is probably because they are putting MGO directly on the disc instead of having it separate. I don't think managed their disc space properly to begin with.
On most of those points Techni. Way to go, clearing it up. Most of what's included on a PC's game disc are compressed files that are unpacked and installed onto the hard-drive, which when there are still compacted and compressed, they are further unpacked when the game engine needs them. A step more than a console would do, at very least. Consoles mainly need to be run from the disc, with portions loaded to memory to work.
Noting the article, "Cutscenes" really don't chew up space, they're really just scripted events using in game resources... it's almost a simple as lines of code. Cinematics done in full CG would be a different story as they're saved as more of a movie file, but MGS doesn't do that, everything has always been ingame for the series. Also, if the game is in HD then the Cutscenes are in HD as well.
I'm glad they were able to simple double layer the disc with 50gb and provide us with all the content in teh world in some of the best way it can be. Tho I do agree with Naroon, that it may have just been some major miss-management of disc space and resources.
States you need something like 12GB HDD free.
So that should make those envious 1s think twice
Or maybe the game is 26 gigs.
then why would they delete the extra languages if they have 24 spare gigs?
the extra 24 gb is the code "hideo_was_here" over and over and over. I mean, we all knew Kojima was a little strange~
How about they just make the other content that they wanted to be downloaded from the PSN Store??
yeah, if you want to play the second half of the game... download it for an additional cost.
anyway, is it just me or does it almost seem like jay is anti the ps3 or mgs... just the way "hours of hd cutscenes!" is written... i dunno man...
I was talking about for free. Since they could fit it in the game, just put it on Hard Drive. Not everyone wants Japanese voice-overs, like me. This is just an extra feature to me. I don't know why they would charge for it when it was originally planned to be in the game.
will blow everything else out of the ocean. I don't care how amazing Crysis looks, how great it plays, blah blah blah. MGS games are known to deliver. Kojima really pushed the envelope with Sons of Liberty on PS2. He will do the same thing with GOP this year. Get over it.
MGS is a good series but it's overrated. Honestly, if anyone tries to compare it to any game from any other genre and say MGS pwns it, their just mindless Kojima-fanboys who need to be shot. Sure, they're great games, but they're not Godlike, or anything to kill someone over. Many people will buy the game just because it has the words "Metal Gear Solid" on it, just like with Halo.
Think about what you just said, you compared halo and Mgs. When Halo one came out everyone was amazed with the online and everything. Mgs came out silently but with a great story and gameplay. Halo 2 came out and it was the same thing, then Mgs2 which got even better and finally started getting attention. I think Mgs earned its stripes, so its not just a name. Its not overrated at all, it deserves to be halo status right now.
I don't think anything will beat crysis graphics right now but still, graphics arent everything. I heard crysis dosn't have a good story and has average gameplay while Mgs has almost everything AAA.
Although my computer could only handle it on medium-low settings, it's not that great of a game. You need to use invisibility heavily, and since it lasts less than a minute you find yourself running, taking cover and waiting for it to recharge, then running again etc.
You need stealth a lot in crysis, but not for more than 2-3 seconds at a time, so it's not important. I finished the game and loved it, it's one of the 1st shooters I love this much. This abilities are really fun to play, always switching to best everyone in all situation, and it plays way faster that any shooters I've tryed before.
Still, I'm more into MGS4. I finished all of them while I didn't liked farcry that much... The MGS4 story is always fun, the bosses are always wierd and special, and it feels like a complete game, checked and checked again, so everything is perfect.
Halo 1 had no online. Only when it came out on the PC in 2003 did it have online. I didn't compare the games directly in any way saying that one was better than the other, I basically said that both are insanely popular franchises, and that people buy them sometimes just because of how popular they are.
Give me negative stars, I don't care. But, MGS is an awesome series, but people need to get off of it's *****, just like with other franchises like Half Life, Halo, etc.
Why does everyone sees in this game? The graphics isn't even all that good it's okay, but it doesn't blow my mind away.
Uncharted looks better and it easily fit on a 25gb disc.MGS4 doesn't even compare to Crysis whatsoever.I don't even see why it takes up the space, wait, i's probably the HD audio and cut scenes.I've seen much better looking games that's smaller. He must be packing MGO and other stuff.
it's confirmes... you're a dumb kid.
I will agree with you that MGS 4 is as big is it is because of HD audio. The devs said this themselves. I'll also agree that Uncharted looked better. Hell Uncharted is easily the best game next to Warhawk (it's not all about graphics) on PS3 right now. I didn't even expect it to be great and I think its *****ing amazing.
MGS4 will destroy both of those games.
Uncharted didn't easily fit on a 25Gb disk. They (developers) maxed out the 25Gb disk. They were going to use the 50Gb disk but they said that they didn't want their first game on the PS3 to use it, so they compressed.
This was in a GT episode.
I looked atthe uncharted disc, and its actually ~21gb,so they hardly pushed it.4gb is still a bit in this day and age for games.but from what i can tell it is atm one of the biggest games in terms of filesize for the ps3.
When finalizing a game, don't you have to leave a certain amount of space?? Also, don't forget that some things were compressed.
"I looked atthe uncharted disc, and its actually ~21gb,so they hardly pushed it."
I believe 22GB is the maximum available for games on a single layer Blu-ray disc on the PS3. This is because 25GB is a measurement in base 10 (25 000 000 000 Bytes), the standard measurement for discs in computing (CD, DVD, HDD etc). However, everything else is measured in base 2 in computing, hence 25GB (base 10) is actually 23.28GB (base 2). And like the 360, there seems to be about 1GB or so reserved, leaving about 22GB free for games.
This is evident by the fact that all PS3 games that are said to fill the Blu-ray disc, are around 22GB in size (Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted).
This is same for DVD on the 360, where the quoted 8.5GB is actually 8,500 000 000, or 7.91GB (base 2), where about 1GB is reserved, leaving just under 7GB for games (the ISOs I've seen on the internet for 360 games suggests up to 6.8GB per disc).
Too far concerning the size of the game. It's going to be a 50G and it will play completely well because the hardware is capable processing data decently. The fact that it's 50g doesn't mean it will access the whole 50G disc at once. There is no way it will process all info in one load time. Just go back to basic and see MGS in PSX - two discs decent load times on both discs - You can even look at the PSP load time depending on the game. The whole game will not load at once.
Shifting gears, Please do not compare Crysis with MGS4 - Yes It has a very good gpx for what I can see but nothing else. Story line sucks ( no offense to Xblok 360 fans) But very good as an action game.
Shifting again, about Spanish, why does someone always has to flame somebody else about his/her language to get his/her point thru? Jeeze the fact that you are not getting MGS4 in Xblok doesn't mean you can attack foreign guys :)
it's gonna be so hard for MGS4 to be release as a torrent file. Probably that's the reason! LOOL - There is one thing I know Xblok fans will be at PS3 fans looking and playing the game. This game will change many things from here on for developers. They going to buy me in two months.
you should probably read the "spanish" part again... and then comment on it cause apparently you judged before understanding..
i don't like getting accused of attacking foreign guys especially if you're just having problems reading... and in case you missed it Someone_PR is my buddy and we've both got PS3s.
I appreciate it really, many people here are like that, but if you are talking about quixand then you are wrong there and yes he is my buddy and he love his PS3 more than I....
Many people don't understand him, the thing is he doesn't like too much the FPS. Thats why he love too much the ps3 because the ps3 have too much of everything and have more good RPGs than any console but if he likes something of the other console he will say it like mass effect. My point of view is a fan but not a fanboy
if you took it personal then that's your problem. Now don't deviate from the topic...I guess you are the one having problems reading.
