I bought the 80g model that came with motorstorm AND a sony BD remote for 100$ more that the 40g will cost so it's not a big deal for me. 200$ wouldn't be worth the difference though, so I'm almost sad for the people who bought it at the maximum price point... But it's really great, in fact, because now a LOT more people will be able to enjoy the PS3, and that could mean more exclusives and that would mean even more PS3 gamers,etc, and then, more people online :D

the 80gb still has backwards compatibility but the 40gb dosent and the 20gb is dead and the 60gb is dying? wtf sony. I have all three next gen platforms and a ds and a psp and a gba so i'm covered on all fronts. but i hope the ps3 dosent flop. I think the way they are doing buisness is retarded. they need to add achievements. make the xmb accessible in game for custom soundtracks, hurry up with rumble and make 2 or more profiles accessible at once. I hate the fact that if i jump in when my roommate is playing warhawk i cant rank up.

Personally, I'd just stick with a SKU system that fits your interest and go with it. And stop worrying which model is the best.
IMO, they're all great renditions of PS3. Just at varying prices and features. For me, it really doesn't matter as I really don't play games online. So just the 40GB would just be perfect.

Whats funny is Rumors from Sony ends up being true. After all This model was a rumor and now its not. Just goes to show you that Rumors aren't Rumors when they come from Sony.

Yes the choice of excluding the backwards compatibility is a strange one. It will be interesting to see if Sony buckles to pressure eventually distributes a patch in the future.

well thats the thing. There is NO reason they shouldnt at least software emulate it. at the very most all it would cheapen is nand costs,which wouldnt be all that much,probably 30 bucks at most,and 30 bucks isnt worth losing backwards compatibility.

to explain to people the 80 GB still has BC...because consumers dont realize it and think its just gone completely.
I'm amazed that many people care about it. I've only played 2 games on mine with BC...and for maybe a few weeks when I first bought it.
