Xbox 360 Price Cut Hardly Hindering PS3 Sales - Image 1Well somebody put his foot in his mouth. Remember how analyst Jesse Divnich kept saying that sales of the PlayStation 3 will suffer if it failed to introduce a price cut like the Xbox 360 did?

Yeeaaaaah... remember when that didn't happen? Sony actually reported a 94% increase in sales from last year.

Granted, half of what Divnich said was right on the money: Xbox 360 sales went through the roof. But then anyone with half a brain knew that was coming. Still, the latest data from the NPD Group shows that sales of the PlayStation 3 wasn't affected by it at all. In fact, it increased - very slightly - by 0.1%.

This got Divnich to admit that a price cut in one console doesn't necessarily affect sales of the other. He even cites the PS3 price cut from last year, noting that that didn't affect sales of the 360 at the time. He still says that the PlayStation 3 is still to expensive though. It won't pull down sales, but it won't help it either:

Those potential PlayStation 3 owners who are turned off by the current high price point may just delay their purchase until prices come down, instead of buying the cheaper Xbox 360.

While Sony might not introduce a price cut to push its console on the market, we may see a massive uplift in sales when LittleBigPlanet finally comes out.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Gee, what a shocker. An analyst was wrong. That's what? The 38,964 times this decade?

You'll also notice the economy isn't affecting it either! Sales are UP from last year.

 » Yup...

I predict if you make something cheaper, people are more likely to buy it......very astute observation...

I'll tell you, the price point keeps the online community very low on kids trying to act cool and generally annoying...even if they get a PS3 then they have to buy a headset, which helps even more, haha!

 » stop complaining about price

I hate how these analyst is complaining about the price point of the PS3 System, for the amount of features you get 399 is a fair price, I mean blu ray technology is still quite pricey, and Sony has to break even at some point.

afaik the wii is the only system in recent history to not sell at a loss for most of it's life span...

yes it is fair, but you have to remember fair isn't good enough in today's society... faster better cheaper... it's a shame, but that's just the way it is.

maybe once the dust settles from the economic ***** storm, people will rethink the approach, but i'm not holding my breath...

You know what would be funny? If an analyst predicts that another analyst is wrong...
That would be the first time An analyst can't be wrong....
