Analyst Jesse Divnich, who made a booboo predicting that the Xbox 360 price cut will affect sales of the PlayStation 3, now wants to make another point: console exclusives decrease sales of competing consoles. Interesting.

As you can see from the very boring-looking chart above, Divnich laid out data of console sales during the release of platform-exclusive titles such as Metal Gear Sold 4, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Halo 3, and God of War 2. For good measure he also put in the multi-platform title Grand Theft Auto IV.

With the exception of GTAIV, every release managed to pull down sales of its competing platforms. Even God of War 2, which is a PS2 exclusive, managed to pull down sales of all three consoles. Divnich points out that this is no coincidence as it was the only time in all of 2007 that sales of all three consoles were pulled down.

So what's Divnich's point? Only this: "at the end of the day, a cheap hardware system means little if it doesn't have great titles to go along with it." A very significant point to make, considering that LittleBigPlanet is just around the corner.

 » well ofcourse

with the exception of fanboys with one system, when a good game comes out for one of the systems you own, like when i got gtaiv for my ps3, i stopped playing o paying attention to my wii, but then i got mario kart wii and for a while that was all i played.
my point is when someone has multiple consels they tend to look more for games they enjoy than games on their favorite system, i myself have a pswii and thats bcause all my friends have the 360 so i dont need to buy it to play its exclusivs :P

lol haha now this duech frag is trying to back his dumb@ss statement about the 360 hardware price drop sales would effect the ps3's and now that it didnt,he's trying to point out that its the exclusive GAMES that bring out the console's true glory and boost in sales.

i mean, look at the consoles back then that transformed our gaming lives today... if it wasnt for the awsome, ejoyable, and popular success of tho's classics then today gaming wouldnt really continue at all in success or fanbased popularity of the consoles themselve's.

classic-gen gaming was all about having fun at home as an allternative to bieng bored or the reallity of life and its side-effects,ALL WITHOUT the darkness of pressure and competition. :)

 » Well..

What a load or crap, this guy and other analysts are a bunch of complete idiots, a console will sell well if the games are good enough, so what if LBP pulls down sales of the Wii & 360? it'll be a very short term change, like when GTA4 came out, it sold ***** loads of copies within the first 2 weeks, then sales declined after that. Why do people pay these idiots to point out what everybody already knows? Pointless s**t.
