Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey has joined the ranks of analysts predicting a PS3 price cut. According to Hickey, "recent channel checks indicate increased speculation for a PS3 price cut announcement from Sony in the next couple of days." Hickey thinks that a US$ 100 price cut is the cure for Sony's PS3 problems. Know what Sony said in response? You guessed it. A Sony spokesman told GameDaily that there is "definitely no price drop on PS3" being planned at the moment. The spokesman also said that for Sony, it's not about price but great games, content and services. That's not all Hickey had to say, however, and I warn you, we're gonna tread into the realm of the kinda absurd here. Apart from the price cut, Hickey also mentioned that they have heard speculation that Sony is planning to come out with a non-Blu-ray PS3 console. See? Yeah, sure, they can make it, but who would want to buy a PS3 that can't play PS3 games? I don't know what the speculators Hickey heard were smoking, but I think I want me some of that. PC Gaming? ...riiiight. Let's forget the gobs more money that'll cost you (as StingBlah and NarooN already stated) ....I suppose you're also looking forward to the hours upon hours of configuration and compatibility problems, too. How about the hours of Internet searches and patch-downloads that you'll spend trying to BOTH a) overcome the compatibility problems (per each game), and b) trying to get a PC Game to run with a dual-analog game controller. (Unless you're ALSO going to start in on the PC-head spiel that "keyboard/mouse" is the ultimate controller. :-O ....Good luck with all that. Heck, owning 3 consecutive 360's that went into RROD would be preferable to the pain of PC Gaming. I've confidently put that misery behind me. It's the ONLY reason I still own a (seldomly-played) 360: to have access to games that would otherwise only be on PC. (In the interest of actually being able to PLAY them ....not spend days of my life CONFIGURING them on a PC.) ;-)

Sony can't really remove the HDD. Since every model up to this point has had a hard drive, and many games require installs they couldn't remove it.
As for everything else. Sure, they could do it.

Non-bluray player PS3.. That would be awesome! That's basically a supercharged PS2, because every single PS3 game is Blu-ray. Personally I think the PS3 is worth the cost. It'll last longer than the other consoles, and it has the most features. I'm lucky enough to own an original launch (bought it used) and I have not been disappointed. And you can't blame them for cutting features. Perhaps they were a little over-ambitious at launch, but financially speaking they're saving a lot of money by cutting down on the stuff. Unfortunate, but true, and can you blame them?

Even though Sony developed the Blu-Ray format, I'm sure that there's some kind of royalty paid somewhere on every unit made. It's a stretch, but I'm sure it would cut prices a bit.
Another possible cut would involve downgrading things like the graphics and sound processors to limit video resolution and audio output. The PS3 has extensive digital audio capabilities, some of which are licensed formats which could be cut out. Essentially, the stripped unit would be a PS2 with a hard drive and the ability to play PS3 games at 480p.

I have no problem with the price of ps3 and i have to work for a living, i guess all the people on welfare cant pay more then what they did for their 360 so they banter sony into trying to lower the price so they can see if they can sell some of their food stamps to try to get enough cash to buy a ps3, well oh well, go get a job you losers, if you want a cheaper system that doesnt have all the bells and whistles, then your best bet is to either stick with 360, or go one step over the 360 and buy the wii, cuz the wii is more powerful then the 360, at least in my eyes.
