 In the past few months, we've heard several groups from the video game industry give their opinions on the console war. Some of the more outspoken ones, including Electronic Arts and the President of Ready at Dawn studios, have expressed favor towards the PlayStation 3.Analysts from Lazard Capital Markets and DFC Intelligence had the same sentiments, saying that the PlayStation 3 will soon be on top in the near future. Now, analysts from the UK, Europe, and North America chime in with their own opinions, which they expressed at the Nordic Game 2008 conference. However, instead of focusing just on how big the PlayStation 3 will be in the future, they were more opinionated on the fate of the Xbox 360 and the Wii. The analysts from the conference expressed how the Xbox 360 will be in trouble in the coming year. DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole went as far as to say that "The Xbox 360's going to come in third place when all's said and done." Other analysts went on to say that the Xbox 360 is strong in the US, but is declining everywhere else. On the subject of the Wii, Swedish analyst Martin Lindell remarks that the console is in trouble if it doesn't produce a steady stream of games that please its consumers. Because its install base is composed mostly of casual gamers, people might tend to shelf the console if the "fad" feeling dies down. One analyst expressed it this way: You've got to remember there's a difference between buying and playing - the fact that you get your grandma to play the game doesn't mean she's going out to buy it. I'm still in that kind of faddish feeling about the Wii. They also talked about the PlayStation 3 of course. They noted how the console is steadily gaining on the Xbox 360, and how a loyal fanbase is another factor to its success. Nick Parker, analyst for Screen Digest, remarks that many PlayStation gamers of previous generations hold off from buying a next-gen console because they are waiting for the release of anticipated titles on the PlayStation 3. Strong opinions, yes? Still, nothing is set in stone, and we haven't heard the fat lady sing yet. The Wii is not a fad. Fads don't last nearing upon 2 years.
It's got plenty of people, from both casual and serious gamers behind it for varying reasons. Even if one market for it collapses, it's got more than enough to support itself for the gen as a viable console.
The PS3 thing, well, I'm not going to comment on it. I don't like the PS3 personally, so anything I said would have some bias and end up sounding antifanboyish like "Well they'd need to be loyal to buy it, it sucks" sort of thing. Though slightly more well written, and a lot less insulting. So I'll just steer clear of commenting on the PS3 bit :D

Just admit it. You know everything these analysts said is true. The Wii is a fad. Sure, many people bought it, but do you honestly think most of them really supported it in the long run? Everyone jumped on it because they wanted to go next-gen but didn't want to pay the money for a 360 or PS3. The titles are mainly meant for diehard Nintendo fans and casual gamers.

The PS3 is actually making a huge comeback (they even surpassed the 360 in total sales in Europe). If anyone looks at all the upcoming titles and features later this year, you already know Sony isn't fooling around this year.
The only reason why Nintendo could actually make another console was because of it's portable systems. Do you really think the Gamecube was that successful? It was a distant third behind the PS2, and kinda distant from the Xbox. Both of those killed the GC, the only real money they had was from the GBA, the GBA SP, the Game Boy Micro, and the Nintendo DS. If it weren't for those, there probably wouldn't even be a Wii.
I'd love to hear what you had to say about the PS3 though. Just because Analysts say what you didn't want to hear doesn't mean THEY are idiots.

Only console that is preforming under expectations is the PS3. I don't think Sony's 2008 lineup is very impressive either. 2009 will probably be a better year.
I was surprised that the Blu-Ray victory didn't push up PS3 sales at all. Even more shocking was that GTA IV didnt seem to be have the impact in hardware sales that a lot of people (including myself) had predicted. I cant see MGS4 moving much extra hardware if GTAIV couldn't.
You've got to look at the Wii and think how much of it's install base is eatting into that PS2 install base. I know quite a few people that owned a PS2 that now own a Wii. That's definately a big problem for both Sony and MS. No wonder they are both working on Wii like motion controls.
I can't see a flood of people flocking to the PS3 this year without another $100 price cut. When you have 2 very popular and successful products selling for cheaper, it's not going to be easy.
I dont think MS is in trouble. They have a lower priced entry console and have guaranteed that nearly all major third party titles will arrive on their platform. They've only had to price cut $100 vs Sony's $200. If the PS3 does start to push ahead I expect MS will finally get more aggressive with pricing.

I think the console war has been going on long enough this gen to give everyone a great insight to the outcome of this generation. wii on top. 360 is the middle man, and ps3 squarely on the bottom.

It's funny that Sony is moving towards creating more games that Quixand doesn't like...shooters. I expect that trend to continue as Sony tries to woo the US market. Sony will be releasing more shooters this year than MS. My guess is that Quixand is an RPG fan. Well the 360 will be getting more RPG games this year and already has way more RPG games then the PS3. Isn't that totally weird, shooters for the PS3 and RPG (and action) games for the 360.
It's funny that Sony is moving towards creating more games that Quixand doesn't like...shooters. I expect that trend to continue as Sony tries to woo the US market. Sony will be releasing more shooters this year than MS. My guess is that Quixand is an RPG fan. Well the 360 will be getting more RPG games this year and already has way more RPG games then the PS3. Isn't that totally weird, shooters for the PS3 and RPG (and action) games for the 360.

well the ps3 doesn't have a large list of great games at the moment. That much is true.
The thing that everyone is overlooking is the fact that the PS3 has a very large back catalog of games to remake.

Its the only console other than PSP that has a lot of games from the franchises that sell these hardwares. Nintendo has done very well but at the same time they have failed incredibly. As far as I am concerned, its not the popularity of the system that I am concerned about its the support of CAPCOM, SQUARE-ENIX, KONAMI, NAMCO and NINTENDO that matter to me. Sony has done well to have so many 3rd party titles that are also available for other consoles.
These give those die hards that want the system before its ready a chance to enjoy them while waiting for Japan to get their act together and produce some Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Megaman or Tekken. Face it, beside the price ANY system would be better than Wii. All Wii has is that neat Wiimote/ Nunchuck. At the same time it is also a failure since as a remote control it has a considerable less amount of buttons and as a gamepad it suffers from the same issue. Its like disabling just the R2 button and removing circle from a ps controller. The cut in half design is neat as heck but the fact it is considered two controllers is completely unacceptable. Dualshock3 will retail for $60 while a full Wiimote will have to be sold in two pieces for more than that. Unacceptable my friends. I refuse to take the 360 seriously as they have the worst titles. Tecmo and Capcom are the only reason that system survives. Otherwise they can only rely on the Ignorant Masses that are sold by nothing more than a commercial. Their best titles are all better on PC anyway. Worst thing about 360 is its similarities to a PC. Comparing one to a pc leaves it in a very lame place. Every damn cord on the thing including the generic parts have been modded so to be specific to 360s only. PS3 Will work with almost anything you plug into those sweet USB ports!
Give up the dispute. Go PS3! If you have played any game on either competitors for over 100hrs+ then you got your money's worth. I guess the 360 and Wii arent completely wasted but.

How many things have you tried plugging into your ps3 usb ports? I have gotten 3 different usb hubs to work 2 different mouses 4 different ps controller converters and many different keyboards to work as well. cut in half design because games on wii have so many control options... you can play with the wiimote and nunchuck, wiimote sideways, classic controller, or gamecube controller; all to match your playing style.. and the wiimote and nunchuck are sold seperately because nearly all wii games don't require the use of the nunchuck.. yea its annoying, but its called MARKETING... jeez have you ever played a wii..?

worse titles? 360 has a great lineup. they have alot of great games, just like the ps3. where have you been? yea it is true that third party devs are what keeps 360 alive, but i mean come on.. you didn't even list the bulk of them... tecmo, capcom, EA, 2k games, rockstar, vivendi, sega, bungie, midway, treyarch... those are just a few of them... those are third party devs that make games for 360... so.. where have you been..?

i have plugged in controller adapters and mics and mice and keyboards into the ps3. thats great and also i suppose wii are great too for doing that. wait usb on wii? theres no usb on wii is there?
