Best Buy to discontinue distribution of Playstation 3 20GB model - Image 1It seems that Best Buy is throwing in the towel on distributing the 20GB model of the PlayStation 3. This move was confirmed by Joystiq when a Best Buy employee sent a printout (printout shown in upper right) from their computer. The printout marks the PS3 20GB model as "discontinued."

David Karraker, head of SCEA PR, has reportedly said, "Overwhelmingly, retailers have been requesting the 60GB model, the mix has been about 80 percent 60GB, 20 percent 20GB retailer orders." It seems that demand for the 60GB model has already far surpassed the demand for the 20GB model.

Now, critics say that the sales for the PS3 system have not exactly been spectacular, but if the sales are skewed towards the 60GB model, will Sony discontinue the production of the PlayStation 3 20GB model?  For now though, Sony has confirmed that they are still producing the 20GB model.

what's so gimped about the 20gig model? no built in wifi? 40 less gigs of memory? and no flash card ports? Come on, there's nothing in the 20 gig model that makes it less superior to say, the premium 360 package.

 » 20 gb is a better value

I got stuck with the 20 GB at launch from Best Buy, but wanted to get the 60 GB with the silver trimming. Overtime, I think the 20 mb is a fair value and the 60 GB is more of a luxury. Yes, I have to plug a card reader that is sitting around my PC and I have to run an Ethernet cable to the 20 GB. But both game-play performances are the same, unlike the XB360 core system.

Without a hardrive on the core, how do you do XBL, play original Xbox games? Expensive add-on like a memory card, in which you should of, bought the premium edition in the first place. This effect game plays right out of the box, genius. This is a PS3 site, so you yourself is a lost MS fanboy.

Circuit City has PS3's 20GB version as DISCONTINUED... meaning that it's price is marked as 499.95, and when you ask to see if any are in the distribution center it says 0...
