what kinda crap is this? u can't buy a game 4 yourself if ur with a minor? wow best buy are idiots dey must be tripin ove dat jack thompson incident
Well while i think these guys WAY over reacted....i think there tired of moronic fools like jack thompson trying to pull fast ones and be like "OMGZORZ I T3H HAX3D BEZT BUI AND MY SUN BOUT A DIRTI GAIM!!! IZ GOINGZ TO SUE EVERYONE NAO!!!!! MWAHAHAHAHA".
i would have asked for his name and asked him to get the manager out and COMPLAIN, huge mark on service too. Maybe even file him/her to the district manager.
I'm sure it WAS the manager that instructed them to act that way. Otherwise, they wouldn't have cared.
I think it was the person at the register. I dont know anyone who would go that far enough to actually stop him from buying the game because a minor happen to be around just cause they were instucted to.
That guy should have b!tched slap that fat b!tch and made her take it in deep for wasting his time. also, i didn't know that you needed to have a plastic bag for every purchase, where do they get their plastic bags for big screen t.v.s? lol
Many companies have policies against selling M rated games to minors, but it isn't against the law, at least not yet. If you're of age you should be able to buy the game, even with a minor, because it isn't illegal. This is ridiculous, I question why he would have even bought the Gold card, I would have not even given them my business after that garbage.
i work at bestbuy and nobody freakin' cares, lol. sounds like a made up story to me. Poor poor matt and his little brother, boo hoo hoo. give me a break
Well, you've just proved the attitude of the BestBuy staff... numbnut!
Nobody cares. I'm not working for best buy, or pretty much any company at the moment, but the clerk that serves you doesn't give a crap whether you're 18 or not, as long as you get to enjoy the product. If they restrict access to a product, it's because someone is forcing them to.
Well I Would be Raiseing some hell.. with Best buy.
I can't buy alcohol with a minor present. Heck, I got carded when my friend was buying beer for himself. I would suggest that everyone read the whole article; it'll make your blood boil.
There was a law here in Illinois that required retailers to restrict purchases of Mature-rated games to minors, but I believe it was struck down as unconstitutional. Whateverz. If I knew which store he was by, I would put up a big sign and call with incessant questions.
here's the store in question, feel free to call and tell them they suck.
Orland Park IL (Store 308)

LOL Nice one!
Why Assassin's Creed got the over 18 rating in the first place? Must be to avoid kids doing the leap of faith...
ROFL!
I went to GameStop to get Assassins Creed, and the guy at the desk said "Oh this is a good game", and I said "yeah I was stuck between this and COD4", he said "both are great games, you will enjoy this" he then asked me for my ID and informed me that I had to be 18 to buy the game (I am 17), and I asked him if he was being serious and he said yes. I went to walmart to buy it and they did not even have it. Then I started to remember that the game is only Rated M, so I called GameStop up and the lady appoligised and told me I only had to be 17 to buy the game, and that I could come get it. It took me about 5min to get there, and they had all ready closed. I was pissed, so then I had to drive all the way to Best Buy where they sold it to me.
What a crazy story, It almost made me cry in the middle +[
matt brother wile walking by the door, I can't wait to play assassins creed .Matt "yeah I heard it's really good" . Security guy @ the door oh yeah humm press radio talk botton and say "video game department pick up " beep.
Go for video game department said a rep. You got a guy in a blue T shirt and jeans with a minor going to buy assassins creed said the guard beep. Ok thanks said the rep. That's how things works since the guard heard them talking about the game he called ahead just because he was bored and needed a good laugh .I know because I have security guards as friends and they tell me all the time how they love to mess with kids just for a good laugh .
The security guard's job is just that, security. If no one steals or causes ruckus of any case, he has nothing to do. It is NOT to enforce age verification.
I'm sorry, but if this is actually happened then that manager needs to get both his and his employees acts together. I work at a Game Crazy, and we would NEVER treat a customer like this. Hell if anyone at my store did do something like this our manager would probably take us out back, and beat the crap out of us. It is not against the law to sell M rated games, and there is absolutely no excuse for refusing to sell an M rated game to someone over 17. Even if he is just going to turn around, and give it to the 15 year old, it is his call to do that.
those guys in that shop must be on their period or something man they should be fired or at least get balled at by their manager.
It is all Jack's fault! If he hadn't made a scene when he bought his kid that video game, this wouldn't have happened!
its just like buying alcohol. you can't buy it if you have a minor with you. makes sense to me.
It just makes perfect sense why they would be doing this. Seeing as there was a minor involved as well.
And it's not just Best Buy, it can also happen in GameStop or wherever games are sold (Toys R Us, Target etc...
because that person is just going to another store to get it. Any store that wants business and doesn't treat customers like s*it that is...
Wow, that accomplished a lot. You could be a politician! Nothing you say makes any sense! Most of these anti game selling laws are ruled unconstitutional anyway.
No it does not happen in my store. We don't treat our customers like crap. If someone wants to buy a game, and they are old enough then you let them buy it. If people keep acting like this its going to become illegal to even sell an m rated game to an adult who had to bring his kid with him while buying the game.
I'm sorry, but his is absolutely ridiculous.
I'da frisbee'd the game at their face and walked out
I'm 14, and my mom/dad let me buy GTA at GameStop, and the cashier is all nice and stuff, and he never questions me about mom/dad permitting me to buy GTA.
That fat b*tch raised hell all for that and even embarrassed him! OMFG I would of kicked the f****** cholesterol out of her @ss. all the stupid excuses Best Buy makes. "You can't buy this because your head is too small". She made him look like an illegal immigrant. OOOOOHHHHH lifo suction time!!
kicked the cholesterol out of her as5. Lmfao..
in the UK this is standard practice.
Games and movies are given age restrictions, though they only really get enforced for 15 and 18 rated games (there's simplicity for you, it tells you how old you have to be to purchase he title)...
I've worked in retail an its mandatory practice to ID anyone who you suspect to be under-aged, and to deny sale to anyone who you suspect is purchasing the game for a minor. If you disregard these laws then the store gets a pretty meaty fine, and so does the person who dealt with the transaction (as well as usually getting sacked for costing the business money).
Whilst this is no doubt frustrating for people under the legal age, and of course in situations like the one in the above article, but I find the system works well. The UK doesn't have the anywhere near the same level of negative games press as the US does (and when something negative is said, it's usually in an off handed way).
Unconstitutional or not, this law, I feel, should be introduced in the US as a compromise. It'll stop peon mouth-breathers like Jack Thomson from ranting about violent games being available to minors and giving the industry bad press, it'll mean stores like Wall-Mart will be able to safely stock M-rated games again, and best of all, it means I'll be able to play my Mature-rated games online without some squeaky voiced thirteen year old pissing me off!
THIS AINT UK BUDDY! So we're not going along with everyone else just cause its standard practice somewhere else.
I say everyone should be able to buy any game they want without question. If someone pays with their own money they sould be able to buy whatever the hell they want. People "exposed" to M rated content wont make them bad people
The anti game laws in the UK suck. Just because as*holes like jack tompson are for them doesn't mean we should be.
I had similar experience happen to me when i bought God Of War. My mom had to buy it because im not 17 or 18, and i was standing next to her and the cashier said "you do realize what this game has in it?" and then read what it says on the back of the game under the rating like violence, blood, language, etc.
This also happened when i bought Jackass 2.
Procedure follows that if employee sells to a minor (present or personally) mgrs are emailed down starting with the CEO by HQ and this can lead to that person getting fired. Needless to say that person could also just have a stick up their a$$ and doesn't like those games personally and forcing their views on others.
