Theme art for the original Bionic Commando - Image 1It seems that, according to Ben Judd's experience, a little nagging can sometimes go a long way in helping to turn a game like Bionic Commando (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) into reality - that and a little change in direction from PSP to next-gen console.

Judd said that he had been nagging his bosses at Capcom for the last four years about making a new Bionic Commando game. It reportedly took that long because the higher ups at Capcom were apparently reluctant to resurrect a franchise whose original Famicom game didn't sell very well in Japan. Fortunately, Capcom's now-head of game development, Keiji Inafune, relented when he saw an E3 reporter's business card with a Bionic Commando 1-up icon on it.

Judd also mentioned that the original idea was to have the game on the Sony PSP. Inafune later changed his mind and decided that it should be on the next-gen consoles instead. As fate would have it, Capcom got the green light for a downloadable remake of the original game, while Bionic Commando was still in development. Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Capcom decided, would go to the PSP, while it's "bigger" brother would remain on the PC and the next-gen systems.

Judd talked a little bit about the features of Bionic Commando: Rearmed. If you'd like more information, the source link below will take you back to the full interview.

According to sources, Rearmed is supposed to be the PSN downloadable remake of the Famicom classic, while Bionic Commando is supposed to be _the_ next-gen game that isn't a remake. Hope that clears things up. ^^
