Ex-Capcom director and producer Shinji Mikami had some stinging remarks reserved for Resident Evil 5. Apparently, he doesn't quite feel all warm and fuzzy inside with the direction they're taking his baby to.

Speaking in an interview with OPM, Mikami confides that he'd rather not play Resident Evil 5.

I probably won't play it. I won't like it, because it's not going to be the game I would have made. It'll just cause me stress if I play it. I think it could be fun for gamers to play it, but not for someone who has developed Resident Evil games. If I see anything in Resident Evil 5 that isn't done well, I'll be angry!

[The similarities between RE4 and RE5...] that's fine, isn't it? I think Resident Evil 5 doesn't need to change the series, but Resident Evil 6 will have to reinvent the series with another full model change or else it won't be able to keep on going.

Mikami's last RE game was RE4 in which he played director. He's also worked on pretty much every single RE title before that, as well as other Capcom faves: Devil May Cry (just the first one), Phoenix Wright, Dino Crisis, and Viewtiful Joe.

Capcom's Resident Evil 5 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 is to be released on March 13.

I don't care what anyone says, my fav. RE's were 2 and 3. I miss the feeling of wandering through a dark town. The very same street you might go through 20 times, and each time different enemies might be there, or none at all. RE4 came along and had you battling hordes of zombies which didnt come close to the feel of anxiety the old RE gave me. RE4 might have been a great game, but imo, it didnt hold aa candle to the classics.

 » Interesting...

Its interesting to see him so upset over RE5, but its because its "not the game he would have made." I wish that he would have gone into depth with that thought, but I'm betting it has to do with the game's turn toward action and the fact that it appears we'll learn where the progenitor virus came from - which he probably would have kept a secret. But hopefully this concern over his series will get him back in the director's helm for RE6. RE4 was my favorite RE, with RE2 as my second fav, I fully expect RE5 to be a fantastic game and Mikami's comments don't 'worry me' or anything like that - actually, it they give me hope that he'll be back to deliver a stunning RE6, and isn't that every RE fan's dream?

 » FALSE NEWS read

You said "Apparently, he doesn't quite feel all warm and fuzzy inside with the direction they're taking his baby to."

But he simply said: "I won't like it, because it's not going to be the game I would have made." and "If I see anything in Resident Evil 5 that isn't done well, I'll be angry!". This just mean he don't want to see the results since it's his "baby" in a way. He's stressed that the game do well since he started everything. At least that's how I see it.

PS: He said that in japanese anyway, so it could simply be the way he said it in the english traduction that give this effect.

» have u guys seen the screen shots

there's a whole bunch of hummer type of car being followed by crazy people in motocyles.....reminds of MGS4 running away from gekkos in the weapon launders' tank........that is not the kind of action Resident evil is world famous for don't forget that...

bet the creators is piss they might throw too much of that stuff in.......making it a racing survival resident evil 5, which is a little too far off the mark of spine chilling gross creatures coming at U, shooting, running, cutting your way free from the trecherous claws of the virus death....

i'll never forget getting cornered in a room full of zombies out 2 eat your brains, narts, shove their blood stentch teeth 6 inch up your roof..........now that was love at first sight ^_^

» The man does kind of have a point.

Resident evil has changed so much since the original,. and im not talking about the graphical aspect,

We expect that to change.

but it's the story. the plot. pretty soon the resident evil we knew will be changed so much,. we'll be fighting hippies thrashed out on lsd in long beach california.

some of what made the series what it is, has been thrown away. the t-virus, The original mansion.

Sigh.

I havent played resident evil 5, and i dont doubt that it will be a great game. But will it really be a resident evil ? .....

 » I'd be upset too

If I started something amazing and it just turned into a button-mashing frenzy where my main character looks like he's on steroids.
