Microsoft has been selling a lot more consoles but they have actually lost more than Sony seeing as how their entertainment division is 5 billion dollars in the hole. When Sony drops the price and the upcoming games hit the market , Sony's position is going to start changing in these console wars.

I don't care what any player that you have upscales it's resolution to. It is only taking a 720x480 picture, running it through an algorithm, and trying to guess what it originally looked like. It will never be a truly HD source so stop saying that it will.
On the other hand BD starts HD and stays that way all the way to my HDTV. It is an apples to oranges comparison.

HD-DVD was approved by the official DVD forum (companies who developed DVD) in 2003. The DVD forum was started by the major electronics companies behind DVD to make sure compromises were made to ensure things like compatiblity and competition between partners wouldn't harm the format. The purpose of the DVD forum was to prevent future format wars like VHS vs. betamax.
Sony did not propose the blu ray format to the DVD forum for official approval. The DVD forum could not approve or deny it because it was never submitted! Also since the DVD forum was not involved, the blu ray format is still incomplete and compatibility issues with older players are inevitable.
Sony wasn't happy getting a peice of the DVD pie, they had to have the whole pie. They didn't care about supporting a single, consumer freindly format like with DVD since they didn't bother getting approval. It's all about the $$$$.
Sony is all about screwing both companies and people. Just ask the friendly folks at Lik Sank what they think of sony. If you don't know, they were a Honk Kong importer that sold Japanese PSPs to Europe. Now $ony sued them out of business, simply for selling their own products.

Sony did not propose the blu ray format to the DVD forum for official approval. The DVD forum could not approve or deny it because it was never submitted! Also since the DVD forum was not involved, the blu ray format is still incomplete and compatibility issues with older players are inevitable.
Sony wasn't happy getting a peice of the DVD pie, they had to have the whole pie. They didn't care about supporting a single, consumer freindly format like with DVD since they didn't bother getting approval. It's all about the $$$$.
Sony is all about screwing both companies and people. Just ask the friendly folks at Lik Sank what they think of sony. If you don't know, they were a Honk Kong importer that sold Japanese PSPs to Europe. Now $ony sued them out of business, simply for selling their own products.

Do you want to know why Sony did not approach them? The answer is simple! They did not need to. They did not make a new DVD or propose a change to the old one. That is the problem with the HD-DVD camp. Instead of making a truly next-gen format like Sony did the HD camp just tried to improve the old one and they should have spent more on R+D. HD-DVD discs read just like an old DVD with the readable layer being .6mm deep in the disc. The only difference is the laser can read data chains that are packed more closely together.
BD on the other hand actually changed the way that the whole disc works. BD has it's initial layer only .1mm into the discs surface and therefore can continue to pack on the layers as it gets deeper into the disc.
You see that is why they didn't give a flying leap what the official DVD forum had to say. They were not trying to help them they were trying to make DVD's eventual replacement. They most likely succeeded!

The purpose of the DVD forum is to get companies to agree on a single format. If blu ray was better and sony submitted it to them it probably would have been approved and there would just be blu ray!
