We remember back in the heyday when yom stated in our comments section that the PS3 was just a "4,000 dollar computer for 600 dollars." Now whatever your qualms might be, let's not get into the whole financial hoopla about it. What matters is that the PS3 is a computer. The simple fact that Linux can be booted on it is enough for people to know of what its shell can support. |

The fact is that yes windows is going to be slow for several reasions here is the list:
1) It is runnin though Linux through a emulator so it isn't full speed.
2) Becuase it runs through linux it cant handle 2 operating systems at once causing one to slow down (if you dont belive me then try to install mac os X on your windows pc through pear tree software it just aint gona go fast no matter what the speed of your computer)
3) Windows is not made for the Playstation 3.
4) This is only the beggining of Playstation 3 homebrew (if you want to call it that) so it is going to be slow just like the PSP at first.

They may be able to get it running a LITTLE faster, but the main bottleneck is the 256 meg or ram, which nothing can be done about....

Actually perhaps you should take a little time and research before you reply. Blu-ray does NOT have superior picture quality than HDDVD. At least not yet, although I doubt it will ever surpass HDDVD anyway with the way the codecs work.
If you doubt this, then you should google or hell even yahoo search some HD reviews.....

Thats is so total and utter bull*****, how many games for PS2 charged to play online? I'm pretty sure it was less than ten.

Lets put it this way, I would rather have a 'nix computer for home use and own a dedicated gaming paltform for games, so that I don't have to deal with artificial excuses to sink me for ever greater and greater hardware. Blue-ray supports VC-1 encoding as well, studios that release movies on both formats will have VC-1 on both blue-ray and HD DVD and therefore both will look the same.
Why do studios keep with the old mpeg? Because its cheaper and easier. Blu-ray gives studios the ability to use their same machines to encode movies for blue-ray, fact being, old movies will have minor differences between the DVD and HD DVD/Blu-ray because the shooting equipment back then wasnt made for high definition.
Newer movies will be able to take advantage of the higher resolution. I watched Fantastic 4 on blue-ray it it was amazing on the difference.
I also watched The last Samurai on DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray and HD DVD and Blu-ray are identical. No visible difference whatsoever.
Its easy to compare a movie like I-Robot on HD DVD and movies that were made in the early 90s and say HD DVD is better.
But compare a 2005 movie and you will see, there literally is no difference.

THE PS3 really reminds me of just a big ol PSP. ALL flash no PROMISE!! I gotta admit..running emulators on a modded psp was fun...thats because all of the original games SUCK!! THE PS3 really reminds me of just a big ol PSP. ALL flash no PROMISE!! I gotta admit..running emulators on a modded psp was fun...thats because all of the original games SUCK!! (except for...tekken and gta) but sony never intended the psp for that way...making their version of the psp really GAY!! now, the Ps3..I turned it on and...OH MY!! a BIG OL PSP ON MY 60" sony WEGA with 1080p. I put on resistance...and it says...play only on 720p..WTF?!!! wierd sony, weird!! you guys SUCK!!
no kind of emulators, operating systems...etc...can hide the fact that the PS3 is overhyped!!

I just wanted to add that I might attempt to make a FC5 specific guide tomorrow if I have time because I want everything to be smoothed out by the time I finally get my PS3, which hopefully will be soon. Otherwise, if someone beats me to it, more power to them. I'll post on this again tomorrow, hopefully with a completed guide.

Nothing special about this. Someone loaded QEmu on a linux box and ran windows in it big deal. I like the hypervisor sony lets you run an OS under because it has potential for others to write special software for the system and lets you run lots of already existing software. I hope someone loads Gentoo on it since we are going to need all the optimization we can get with only 256mb of ram.
And reading lots of these comments i remember why i hate the console communities. Full of stupid fanboi's who worship one system. When will you learn that consoles are not football teams. Personally at the moment we have a xbox360 because ps3 hasn't come out in Australia yet. When it does i will be getting one of them too (and maybe a Nintendo wii if some of its games interest me).

I agree. There are so much potential with Ps3 then with 360. We are pretty much know what inside 360 can do by way of Intel processor. The cell is just far more better. I think Ps3 is more about future tech vs 360 is the current tech.

its relativly easy to make a Qemu image of any OS you want, the key is to run a QEmu on the system you want to get installed and make a fresh install there first, then move the image across to the emulatr machine to run that image (in this case winXP) there on a native compiled QEmu as they used above.
the key points are that currently the linux that they used was NOT optimised for the PS3 yet, AND the fact that Neather was the QEmu they were using, so in effect making it even slower than it might be if they were running that XP Qemu Image on say a G5 PPC with the spaecial JIT optimisations for AltiVec and so on, if you can search for these AltiVEc patches and compiler switchs and write these up, perhaps someone can use these as the base to get ferther speed out of the PS3 version that will come in time, then later somene else can use this info to vectorise the code even more to use 1 or more of the specialised cores, if you follow?.
as a begining, star here http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/pa-emulation.html to make a cross-compiled Qemu on any usable linux for PPC, look for altivec switches and read up on these and the JIT (just in time) for PPC as your starting point for better speed.
