Devil May Cry 4's Nero - and the total number of petitions - Image 1

The last time we heard the words "Capcom" and "gamer uproar" in the same sentence here at QJ Central was probably the announcement that Devil May Cry 4 would be "EXPLODING ONTO MULTIPLE PLATFORMS". But we still couldn't help but scratch our heads at the sight of this floating on the interwebs:

To: Capcom

We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games. This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Total number of signatures? Two thousand four hundred and fifty two. We could almost see the pitchforks and the torches snaking its way to Capcom's doors with people screaming "OFF WITH HER HEA-" err... "BOYCOTT!". But before you guys get on your high horses and/or run to the Capcom Petition site to sign up, let's not forget that Capcom is a corporation (read: business). 'Nuff said.

Its pretty stupid doing this, One im sure 2 thousand odd sales wont really matter, Two Capcom games have been doing very well on the 360 and if they get threating letters off Sony fans thats gonna tilt them in favour of the 360 dont you think?

 » Ha ha ha

If these idiots were real fans, they would realize that Capcom isn't exactly thriving right now, and to stay afloat they need to do whatever it takes.. It would be foolhardy not to release Multi-plat right now, and to commit themselves to Sony alone would be suicidial. What a bunch of morons, things like this only make us laugh!

   Re: 80956 (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
 » To AMW Godfather

Oh that's right Capcom needs as much money as they can right now. Then why the hell are Dead Rising and Lost Planet exclusive to the 360. They need money so they might as well port those two games to the PS3 right. But yet they don't I wonder why?

   Re: MGSROCKS1 (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
 » To 80956

The reason why Capcom didn't bring Lost Planet and Dead Rising to PS3 is because it costs money and development time to port a game or utilize a game in another system. The Xbox360 is a console they can make money at and so they are not going to try and loose more money by doing a port.

 » Lol

This is pathetic... Anyone who signed this is a dumb-ass. The 360 has made capcom some big bucks lately and anyone with a good business sense knows that $ is what it all comes down to. Surely a new low for fanboys everywhere.

   Re: antaeus - 2007-03-23
 » true

it is all about the money that would explain why Dead Rising and Lost Planet are going multi platform too(both made by capcom) this generation is going to be more about games being in every console so the devs get their actual money back and make a profit.

Actually Dead Rising 1 and Lost Planet 1 will never go multi as I think you may find they were paid for and published by MS.

What a bunch of crying sissies, I can't believe they want to boycott a game because its going to be accessible by so many more people. Those of you who signed the petition are not gamers, real gamers would be happy that a much larger group of people can now enjoy what you call a great game. Now you're all going to cry in the corner because you have to share! hahahaha go back to preschool!

   Re: gfhd (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23

V took the words right out of my mouth, if you sign(ed) this petition you are not a gamer and not a fan of Capcom. If you were you would be happy that so many more people get to play a great series like Devil May Cry.

this has nothing to do with being selfish or greedy. it's the fact that multiplatform games will be throttled to fit Xbox's 4.7GB space requirement to fit on the DVD. if it remained an exclusive, we may actually see the power of the cell on a blu-ray. we don't want some port of some crap xbox game....

   Re: Snaku (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
» He does have a point

Multiplatform games are almost always inferior to exclusives. Probably something to do with keeping the code as universal between the systems as possible. That said, I doubt that many of the complainers are really thinking of game quality.
I personnaly wasn't especially interested in this game but I am disapointed to see the PS3 losing territory. I bought a PS3 because it's exclusives appealed to me more than 360's. I'll be very upset if I find out I didn't have to give up Halo 3 so I could have FFXIII and MGS.

   Re: lmxloco - 2007-03-23
 » .

Umm, you might want to learn a little bit about what you are talking about before trying to slam the 360.

DVD-9's have never contained just 4.7GB, and while the extra Blu-Ray capacity would come in handy on some games, most won't fill up that space (including DMC4) unless a bunch of bloat is added, like uncompressed audio for extra languages or way too many CGI sequences.

In most cases, DVD-9's capacity is just fine.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-03-23
» Yes blame Capcom for sony's mistakes.

Maybe if sony cared about playstation more than blu ray, the PS3 would have come out on time and be $200 cheaper. They could sell enough units to attract more exclusive titles, and more games would already be out, helping sales more.
All Capcom is trying to do is make sure they can make back development costs in a reasonable amount of time.

dvd is perfectly fine for games, blu-ray is not requiered for games. unless you are a studio that has to render every cut scenes because they cant seem to do it in game.

   Re: laaa (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
» You know you've lost when you have to flat-out lie to demean the competition

I really hope your just that ignorant, if not then Sony fans have really just run out of material haven't they? Any monkey should know the XBOX 360 uses DVD9, which can hold 8.9 GB of data, not 4.7 and not simply 8 (some Sany fanboys seem to like to round down from 8.9).

Oh and I can almost guarantee you that if you load up any PS3 game on a PC and check out the data, you will see that it is not over 8.9 GB of REAL data (duplicated data to improve load times and uncompressed HD videos don't count)

   Re: demonic_bunny (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
 » lol

The most Sony's done with their storage is put multiple language versions of the same game on one disc...at least for now, the DVD-9 storage space isn't an issue.

And even when it is, multiple discs maybe? Seriously, its really a non issue

   Re: Ross (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
 » Kutibh is a moron

First off its 8.5 GB, not 4.7 GB. Second 99.999999999% of every game that has ever come out in the history of video gaming can fit in 8.5 gigs of space.
Second, more gigs will not compensate for a crippled processor (cell) or last-gen video hardware(rsx). So the "true powa of teh cell" will not be seen until the devs get used to the tricks and handicaps they have to impose on themselves to actually get the damn thing to work.

I can't help but think this is something sony started. Just listen to how it's worded:

"This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your commitment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself."

It's basically saying sony benefited from Capcom's commitment (although many games have always been multiplatform) and it's demoralizing for sony, "the most faithful gaming company." What a load of crap. Awww don't we all feel sorry for sony?

Is this another viral marketing attempt by sony?

 » OMG

@Kutibh: "...it's the fact that multiplatform games will be throttled to fit Xbox's 4.7GB space requirement to fit on the DVD"

JESUS STOP THIS!! How often do I have to write this so that you guys finally get t into your brains.
1. They just use DVD DL which means 9gb per DVD.
2. Bluray is too slow for games and can just keep on reading the datas, not like DVD switch again to the beginning of the Disc (well not that fast). So Bluray and HD-DVD is just good for movies. This means the devs have to put the file twice or even oftener on the BlurayDisc, to increase the reading speed.
3. Games on the Xbox360 are compressed to fit on a DVD. You can't do the same with Ps3 Games because it would take too long to read, and decompress them.
4. Games on the Ps3 have about 12-13gb (Motorstorm, which is the biggest one), they are decompressed and doubled. So this means it would not even need a DVD DL.

All in all there is no reason to throttle the games, to fit. Don't be afraid ;)

Exactly, they never mention that the 360 is DUAL LAYER DVD9 because they dont know what it means. they just think all DVDs are One size....
   by R Kelly (Unregistered) - 2007-03-23
 » I cant believe this

The sony fanboys are pissed off because the inevitable happened. In the world we live in exclusives titles are not a good thing for business. If a company can make one game and sell it to the owners of 3 different systems they can make a faster and larger return for their money. This is why the ps3 will fail. The ps3 has the smallest(and apparently *****iest) user base. It also has the hardware that is the hardest to develope for and the most expensive development. They can make a better game on the 360 for a lot less money and then make a halfassed ps3 port because only 15 people have one anyway. these 15 people are so hungry for any kind of software at all that they will buy it no matter what.... personally i see no down side to this... The fanboys only complaint is that if the game is multiplatform and sells well other games will go multiplatform and soon there will be little if any reason to have a ps3...especially since either one of the other systems cost less and have the same games....they need to be boycotting sony not capcom.

   Re: Kizer (Unregistered) - 2007-04-18
 » Your right but....

Your right but, notice that LOST PLANET and DEAD RISING are still to this day exclusive. Face it, Microsoft owns the world. They put money out there to keep thier games exclusive. Even if capcom were to put dmc4 on the 360, it would make more profit period. Microsoft got that guapo.

 » wtf

Seriously, WTF. When was capcom EVER committed to Sony? Heck, capcom was making games on Nintendo and SEGA systems long before Sony came along. Where is your boycott on that move? Capcom has never been exclusive to playstation.

It is incredible how these playstation people have tunnel vision. They see only the PS2 and their dreams for the PS3. Anything outside that scope is by default wrong. Capcom is not and has never been Sony. There have been capcom titles on every major platform over the years.

Instead of asking "what is wrong with capcom", the question that everyone should be asking is "what is wrong with the PS3 that has caused capcom to make this move?"
