Capcom logo - Image 1According to Japan's Corporate News Network (JCN), Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto told Jiji Press that the company will focus on developing games for the Sony PlayStation 3 when 2008 comes. That isn't to say we're going to see a parade of exclusives though, because he also said Capcom plans to maximize profit through multiplatform development.

Looks like we can count on less PS2 titles from Capcom starting next year, but most of the goodies we have been waiting for are coming to next-gen consoles anyway - Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 are two big names and they're all appearing on both the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. We'd pray for Phoenix Wright in high-def 3D, but what are the chances of that?

now waiting does not mean that it will happen.

 » Hmm, I don't think that's what's happening.

As said by a number of developers already, because the PS3 is more difficult to program and has less RAM for games than the 360, it's best for devs to focus on the PS3 and port to the 360, rather than the current situation where they focus on the 360 and port to the PS3.

This is what I believe Capcom are now doing. They are not favouring one console over another, they are making sure they get the best out of both consoles for muti-format games, and to do this requires focussing more on the PS3.

KnowLedge, That could work against 360 since we all know you have more freedom on the PS3 due to BD cause of space, so if they do work solely than port it to 360 they might not get 100% the same stuff. I mean with Blu-ray you have 25GB to start out with and you can do some amazing stuff. if they choose to go even more 360 discs might not be able to handle the amount of stuff and compressing it doesn't help.

Its actually a bad move to be honest, thus the situation comes in what about dates. Yes they have said its gong to be the same and come out the same day, but if they can't get everything the PS3 version has on it they may have to delay the 360 version and make the PS3 one a timed exclusives. So there is some problems in this move if you start to think about all the possibilities. But we will have to see.

» I see where you're coming from but...

...space on Blu-ray isn't going to have much effect on how much stuff the console can handle, that's more to do with processing power and RAM, hence content is the main issue. Like you said, multiple discs can be used, so can downloadable content (like GTA4), but the worse case for the 360 is to have slightly less or reduced quality content in some way (like The Darkness which runs slightly better on the 360, but only has clips of TV shows on the 360 version compared to full length TV shows on the PS3).

As we can see today, for a multi-format game, if just one version is delayed, it's almost always the PS3 version, and if one version is slightly worse, it's again likely to be the PS3 version. Hence focussing on the PS3 should address this issue.

As you said, we'll see. :)
