Sony has to pay up - Image 1Things are heating up between Sony and the Church of England. As a recap, the church wants Resistance: Fall of Man to be pulled out from the shelves. Offense was taken for using the holy place as a backdrop for the violent game, and relations to gun problems in Manchester have submerged.

A meeting will finally be held on Monday by church officials to decide what actions to take against Sony, said spokesman David Marshall. What we know right now, however, is the list of demands they want from the big company.

Sony will be asked to send in their apologies, along with a huge part of the money earned by the game as donation. Other demands include pulling the game out the shelves or modifying the cathedral part, and supporting groups in Manchester that fight gun crimes.

Sony already made a statement on BBC, but it contained no formal apology. After calling the company "sick" and "sacrilegious," the Church of England wants donation from them. What's your take on this? Let's hear on the comments.

that if the church is willing to accept a donation without anything changing, like the game still being pulled from shelves or modified, then I'd say that the church is in it for the money, as bad as that sounds. It's like "if you don't wanna change your game because it's 'bad', then we'll take money and you can continue to do 'bad' things, we don't care anymore." That'd suck for it to be pulled though, because I like Resistance and I own it.

totally agree this is exactly what im thinking absolute corruption they never did really care about the violence it only about the money very sad very sad indeed if sony does give them a donation then i hope no good come of it and the people suing sony die straight bull cr@p man seroiusly suing the big ones these days it begining to be a fad

Of course the church is about money. What church isn't? Having faith is fine, but organized religion is a bad religion.

Furthermore, there's no way they could press legal charges...if that was true, the city of New York would be suing the crap out of Rockstar Games for GTA:IV. It's more of a moral/image decision on Sony's part. (Which I think they'll keep their money and tell the church to pray for fat joe to make it rain.)

Yeah, I used the 'C' word (Christian). The problem is that people like these give the vast majority of us a bad rap.

Seriously, when ANY religion or faith says: "Hey, what you are doing is bad and you should stop" and then turn around and say "We'll look the other way and be quiet... IF you shell out some 'donations'" it is hypocritical to what they're supposed to stand for.

It's a 'shakedown', plain and simple. Just remember that there are bad people in any demographic, not just in one religion or another.

the POpe dosen't like video games because of the ww2 shooters. He sees all his nazi freinds getting killed and he dosen't like it. I think in the next game there should be a nazi with a younger version of the pope's face. That would be too real, I'm sure.

I really hope Sony fights this to the end. I hope they dont' take the easy way out and just give them money to shut up. I am tired of these people that are dumb as hell. I guess they don't act on what they preach.

I have yet to meet a church ooer that wasn't a sinner. Hell, sometimes they are worse than the ones that dont' go to church. I came from a very christian country(Brazil) and everyone that I met in church were the biggest hipocrites ever. The church has turned me away from itself.

They must be really desperate. The sad thing is that they are making themselves look worse each time they open their mouth.

The thing is that they preach that god will forgive yo if you come clean and atone for your sins in some way. OtherwordS; Do as you please, suck up to jesus and entry into heaven is a fact (Y)

 » REDICULOUS!

the church of england is trying to sue sony/get Resistance fall of man taken out of the shelves just because part of the game is based around that area!? like what the hell, they said they would accept a donation instead of taking the game out of the shelves...They clearly just want the money. People are willing to do anything for money.

Hell, if sony made a game based where i live, i'd be like "WOOT! THIS IS AWESOME!"

OH, and not to mention the game is based like 50 years ago, who the hell cares! ITS JUST A GAME!!

the church is being retarted , sony did not do anything illegal
and i would not give them a dime, they should say screw the church and keep going about there way, it seems like every one is trying to milk sony for money and none of them are legit causes. if the church can get money out of sony for that then i will just sew sony cause the game damaged me and made me evil... bla bla bla what ever, screw the pope .

but i do have catholic friends...they are never open about it and seem snoty alot of the time. but for a catholic official to sue because their church was in a game is IN NO WAY DEALING WITH SERVEING GOD OR JESUS. heck if my church was doing somthing like this, i promise you i would inform them on the game to show them the truth...and to all the reasonable gamers of a church, i want you to inform your church followers on games, i do and, heck, my preacher likes playing call of duty 3...our church has a moto, "come as you are and be forever changed"....because God created us ALL equally, and we are not the ones to judge who is good or bad.
anyway this "church" that is threating sony is walking off the trail to salvation with these actions.

They aren't Catholic either, retard. Learn some history. They are the Church of England because back in the 'old' days you couldn't get a devorce in catholicism. So the King of England made his own church. Wow, for an aetheist I sure know more about religion than you...

   Re: vincent (Unregistered) - 2007-06-10

they think god will make em win the case. But judges are required to be neutral especially when dealing with religion. Most judges are not religious which is why you swear to an oath to the country instead of the holy bible ( which used to be done)

They are never going to get their "donation" (Read: "settlement") because they're really just pulling this outta nowhere.
