Colin McRae: DiRT - Image 1Following the death of Colin McRae, Codemasters has just confirmed that they've pulled out their ad campaign for the PlayStation 3 version of Colin McRae: DiRT. This decision was made as a sign of respect for the late racing hero. Following their previous statement on McRae's death, Codemasters (via a spokesperson) has told GamesIndustry:

With consideration to and in agreement with McRae's family, there was a stop put on the TV ads that were planned to run on Sky channels at the weekend and through this week. All media owners contacted were understanding and cooperative.

The ad campaign to promote the racing game was supposedly a major one, especially since the series was getting the Cell Processor treatment. Codemasters' decision to pull out the ads must have been a hard decision to make, but it nonetheless echoes a lot on how they revere the racing legend that is McRae himself.

» ok im probably gonna get beaten down here,

but i still feel that this game should advertised, even on tv, as this is a brilliant game that needs to be pushed!!

i was one of the first people to pay my respects to colin mcrae but at the end of the day i feel it would be better to push the game as a mark of respect to mcrae and also as his last contribution to the games console!!

i do understand why codemasters would do this though and my thoughts do go out to the family!!!

People use the internet anyway, so they would know about it. When i visit Denmark, it's very rare to see ads about games except big ones like Halo and Gears of War, but it doesn't really matter...

 » I don't get it.

I don't remember McRae's name ever being mentioned with Dirt until he died. It's not on the box. It's not on the tv commercial that aired for 360. Where the hell was it all this time?

I think this is a publicity stunt. If they did nothing - the family wouldn't have cared. They have more important matters to deal with.

Sure, the man is featured in a game. But I don't think that codemasters should be getting some pat on the back for pulling commercials.

Let the poor family grieve the loss of their very YOUNG loss of life. This is life, it doesn't get more real than this. The family, I am sure, doesn't care if the video gaming world is behind them - they are just wondering how the hell they are going to push on without him.
