Fandomnation - Image 1 "My fandom beats ur fandom, u loser!"

That is the somewhat apt battlecry of the fans everywhere when it comes to everything from games to basketball. It's also the same thing that Mavericks owner Mark Cuban had to go through, and it's the same thing he blogs about now.

After getting some comments from fanboys reminiscent of some of our comments (argument is in the form of 1337speak, something about my mom, etc.), he decided to talk about fanboys and how they seem to have changed. He notes that instead of being the counterculture to the industries, industries now seem to be fueling them into a personal support force. He writes:

Whatever happened to Counterculture being a positive attribute? In today's fanboy culture, kids are obsessively supporting products. They aren't "fighting the man", they "are the man". They are using their fanboy legions and their inherent purchasing power to persuade and dissuade anyone in their way (emphasis his).

He continues his analysis, noting how marketers now have to work with fanboy interest in mind as well as general consumer interests. In the age of the net, an irate blogger is a powerful one, one with the know-how and the influence to get his own perceptions to spread among his community.

It's a good thing we're a blog then. The only difference is that we're pro-gamer, rather than pro-console.

This is such a great article. Its obvious this odd following is predominent in the new console generation. From my observations I would say

a) Most often MS fanboys move from forum to forum to insult others

b) Most MS fanboys bash PS3 more than Wii (makes sense, more direct competition)

c) There are more MS fanboys

d) Sony fanboys are more "die hard" (they will stick with Sony through thick and then, and regardless of what people say it almost always pays off)

A great example of this is the political divide in the US. Regardless of the fact that the loudest voice here has been liberal, with the example of media attention and protests the vast majority of all major elections in the last 8 years have been conservative. (That is save the last midterm election)

This is a great example of the effect of fanboyism. Though a voice is loud it still is just an opinion and the majority of people understand that. People are going to vote with their ballots or their dollars the way they see fit. They don't care what fanboys or protestors say.

Just because you yell louder does not make you smarter, it just makes you look stupid. There is no substitute for a good arguement.

Sony shouldn't have call the 360 an Xbox 1.5 when they couldn't produce a graphically superior gaming machine. Their comments about the Wii and the fact they stole Nintendo's motion senor idea was a down right low act. It's true that a lot of people don't like Sony for all the lies and shameful blasts at the competition. Some people hate the PS3 for what it is and what it costs. That doesn't make you a 360 or Wii fanboy.

It seems like Sony fans blame the 360 for their bad press and the foul attitude people have towards the PS3.

if you didn't know, sony didn't steal nintendos "motion sensor" idea. if you check up, sony had a technology patented 2 years before Nintendo. it was originally planned for PS2, but they decided to wait until the PS3...

 » are you kidding me?

Sony fanboys are the same as MS fanboys...you are just proving yourself to being a fanboy Ludiwhatever.

Man are people retarded these days.

"there are more MS fanboys" Yea Ok...whatever. Seeing as the ps2 sold more...and how you say that the sony fanboys 'stick' with sony you make little sense.

His post is so stupid you just have to laugh.

Fanboys are ALL the same, and how they behave at any given time depends on whats happening to the product they support and what's happening to the product(s) they hate.

the motion sensing was the last big thing they announced about the ps3, if they had had the technology, they woulda announced it quite some prior to release. Also, if they had it for an extremely long time, why couldn't they get the rumble to work with it...ever thought about that?

 » my own observation

It seems to me the PS3 fans know sony is in trouble and with many having already bought a PS3, they do many low things to make it seem better on these forums. THINGS LIKE USING MY NAME REPETEDLEY.

Many XBOX fans like me used to be sony supporters 100 percent. However, I don't like the things sony has been doing lately, namely lying about the PS3's capabilities, bashing the 360 with lies, suing companies out of business, and using the success of previous consoles to push new sony technologies like blu ray and the cell processor which are not in the interest of most gamers.

Some people choose to believe sony, and that's what I'm trying to prevent. If they announce something truthful and make good on the promise, more power to them. Unfortunately, they haven't been doing that a lot lately. I am not a fanboy, I'm more like a consumer advocate.
I would like sony more and would be easier on them if they acted more ethically bussiness wise. If people continue to believe them and trust them, they will continue doing what they have been doing so much of lately. THIS IS NOT IN THE INTEREST OF ANY GAMER.

I don't want a console that gives me a reason to buy more electronics crap (compatible HDTV, 7.1 surround sound system, PSP, blu ray movies, bluetooth headset, etc.) I want a console that gives me a reason to buy games for it!
