With the Blu-Ray DVD format experiencing exceptionally strong support and sales lately, it looks like the distributors have decided to share the wealth.

The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) is letting out word that they're going to be offering a promo next month that entitles purchasers of a Blu-Ray player (including the PlayStation 3) to five free Blu-ray movies to go with the player.

Slap on the similar promos that have been sprouting up on sites like Amazon and Best Buys, and you can imagine why the format's outselling HD-DVD by a factor of five to one. This promo's expected to begin this July 1, and will end on September 30. Click on the promo scan below to read the rest of the details.

Go XBOX 360! Go for the kill!

Get the hardware issues resolved and end Playstation forever so sony will quit it with these stupid ass new media formats that screw consumers! They'll do it again if the PS3 succeeds!

Gotta love the well researched commentary this writer delivers. If he had any incling of what's going on at Best Buy and other retailers, he'd notice that HDDVD players offer 1-5 movies free with every player in nearly every weeks flyer.

Plus this deal is being released now, how did Bluray outsell HDDVD 5 to 1 prior to the 5 free Bluray deal being offered?

Did I just blow your mind right there? I think I did.

This promo is new, just created. The article that states that Bluray outsells HDDVD 5 t o 1 was from like 1-2 weeks ago. Can you Xbots be anymore stupid?

Did you even read the post you are responding to? He is saying BD was outselling HD-DVD even before the offer. And that in spite of the fact that HD-DVD has been using the same tactic for a couple months now.

 » what's next?

So is it blu ray "selling" over HD-DVD 5-1 or "giving away" 5-1? Why doesn't the blu ray scam association just make a s*itload of copies of crappy movies and give them away at every street corner and send them out to everyone as junk mail. Then they can easily win this format war with the most disc "sales."

 » RE: Mister Common Sense?

You don't really live up to your screen name bud. HDDVD has been giving away free movies every other week in stores with the purchase of a player. Wouldn't this skew their "sales" numbers the same as Blurays? When the Matrix Trilogy released on HDDVD, I could've bought a player on Amazon and got the Trilogy free, plus one more title free. They both do this, yet Bluray is still trouncing HDDVD. Open up your eyes bud. I know you hate Sony and the PS3, but you are certainly letting this hate blind your common sense.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-06-28
 » .

Blu ray has been doing this much longer than HD-DVD, and HD-DVD just recently began promotions such as this to keep up since blu ray has been counting these tactics in their famous 2-1, 3-1 sales "reports." Any free movies given away should not be counted as sales, period. Just like PS3s should not be counted the same as stand alone blu ray players. Most people buy them under the impression that they are a game console. There really isn't many games, but it is not solely for movies. This whole format war is nothing more than corporations manipulating numbers in their favor, and it's obvious HD-DVD is getting screwed.

I just hope another format war like this never happens again, and if the PS3 fails, that will be a step in the right direction.

 » Missing Common Sense

When are you going to learn the difference between standalone and dedicated? Any hardware which plays Hi-Def disc out of the box (not requiring an add-on ala XBox 360) is a standalone player. Hardware which is purposed only for playing Hi-Def discs is a dedicated player.

Cry all you want but PS3 is moving plenty of movies.

 » Desperate "Sense"

Hi Common Sense,

You've resorted to swearing at Sony and the PS3 in your posts now? You must REALLY be desperate and worried about the 360 and/or HD-DVD format.

I own both the PS3 and the 360, and I admit that I'm slightly biased in favour of the PS3 (with good reason, I might add, as I'm a sucker for advanced technology). However, I have never looked down upon the 360 or the HD-DVD format (even though I have never bought an HD-DVD player or an HD-DVD disc).

What you resort to doing in your posts is not just immature and childish, it's fanboyish (Yes, I look down with contempt upon fanboys like yourself as they are worse than kids who scream "My daddy is stronger than your daddy." and nowadays, you fit the description of an illiterate fanboy perfectly).

You appear highly strung-up about this PS3-Bluray issue, mate. If you are not just a teenager who's trying to appear older, maybe it's time you consulted a Pschyiatrist.

Regards,
MTK

» Mister Common Sense you are truly pathetic.

It makes me chuckle listening to a forum troll whine about how his wittle pwrecious media format is loosing to another wittle pwrecious media format that just happens to backed by Sony. If Sony wasn't involved in this you wouldn't give a flying sh*t. If Microsoft was packaging their 360 with a Blu-ray player, you'd be yelling "Yay Blu-ray! Blu-ray FTW!".

Words cannot describe how much of a complete and utter tool you are. I can just imagine you sniffling, eyes watering at your computer screen whining about how free movies and PS3s "shouldn't count". "If the PS3 fails"? I'm about to die laughing. When the 360 was as old as the PS3 I proudly had one game for it: COD2, and I'm proud to say now that I have one game for my PS3 now: Resistance. I'm waiting for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Littlebig Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agency, and FF 13. Just as I waited for Gears of War, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, F. E. A. R., Rainbow Six : Vegas, GRAW, and Oblivion, And don't give me that sh*t about those games being 'halfway decent' or some sh*t like that.

You know what makes those games 'halfway decent' in your book? The Playstation logo on the box does. PS3 could shoot free money out of its Blu-ray drive and you still would flame it! You fanboys are never pleased by anything your rival system does. That's why you continue to post your mindless comments when you know, full well, of all of the games mentioned above.

I'm just standing up for myself. Just like all people should. Whether you play Xbox, or you're more of a Sony gamer. I implore you to stand up to people like Quixand, xman, and Mister Common Sense. All they do is try to twist the facts. If you keep an open mind and take the real facts you'll see the PS3 is turning out just like the 360.
