A decade since the initial announcement of the development of Duke Nukem Forever, and 3DRealms now releases the game's latest video trailer. It's no small matter to say we've waited a very, very long time for this teaser, which shows us glimpses of how the Duke's been doing all these years.

True to the developer's word, this video video showcases what appears to be in-game footage. On the lighter side of matters, 3D Realms' George Broussard confided to Shacknews that more "media releases" were expected to be churned out in the days to come. Quoting Broussard:

The release is still "when it's done," but you can expect more frequent media releases and we're not changing engines again and we have considerable work behind us.

3D Realms hasn't announced which platform will be receiving the game. We'll leave that thought for another day, however - on to the video!

I just snagged a look on my boss' computer while they were out. So worth it. As long as it has the same grit and grime as the earlier, I'll consider this a must buy for me.

But one thing's for sure, the Duke has no fear - he's a god of war that flies over the skies of liberation, a far cry from the chicken shooters tromping on uncharted territory.

...Mass Effect. Or something.

Sure hope Dukes Final brick dropping fantasy comes with a punch as his bricks must be strong like Metal and Geared to be droped Solid on every missfortuned being he comes accross...

OMGOMGOMG DUKE NUKEM! This is the best gaming news in a while. And, if that isn't the original guy, they even got a guy who sounds almost just like the Duke.

 » My Thoughts

If someone were to ask me what Duke Nukem Forever is, I'd tell them it's a game that a lot of us have been waiting for almost a decade now. The reaction I got when I saw this trailer is similar to the reaction I'd get from the one who asked me the previously mentioned question; What? Is that good or bad? From my standpoint it's really regarding the graphics, it's obviously the only thing we got now and hence it's the thing I'll judge. During the first seconds of the teaser I was really hyped and excited, I've been one of those who've been following the progression of Duke - but not really down to the hardcore level, but rather only having it under my radar and defending the game from credulous comments. When the first scene of Duke appeared, which I instantly recognized as being from the same room as the previously released screen, I felt a bit satisfied. But when the insane amount of flashing screens with not-so-awesome fidelity in the graphics appeared I was a little bit on the awkward side. I kept watching though, this was Duke after all.

After the last scene was done and the one-liner was thrown, I felt the nostalgia come to me. It sure was the same old cheesy and familiar Duke as I've known for a decade, his appearance had changed a fair bit though so it still was a little bit uncomfortable to digest what I had just got served. My thoughts that ran through my head was; A game that had graphics like this, why did it only feel on-par with the games today and not like the next coming of Jesus of games? Like they've said before they stopped caring about the graphics just to get the game done, does that mean that they've really focused on the gameplay like no developer have done, for the last decade? If so, is the coming and to be proven strength of Duke really about the game and not the graphics? Could this really be the next coming of "Jesus"?

Don't get me wrong about being religious, I'm not, nor regarding the graphics being bad in any way. I actually think the art direction seem really good, if not plain awesome. Some people are already complaining and comparing DNF to game X in matter of graphics or design, but I personally felt that this really was Duke and nothing else. I have to admit that I really didn't like the animation in some parts, but that's really just me being an animator and I know animation in the game industry really isn't as good as it should be. Animation is an underrated aspect of game development and good animators are actually harder to come by than coders. Also some people say the texturing is a bit uneven throughout the teaser and I admit that it is as well, but to the point where graphics doesn't matter anymore - that's what I want 3drealms to show us.

People are right when they say that graphics matter, but only an idiot would say that the game is only about it. If gameplay wasn't important, games like Thief wouldn't be played by fans all over the world as we speak - and that game is ten years old. What I'm getting at, like mentioned earlier, is indeed that I want this to be the game that will reinvent the meaning of Single Player Gaming! No game has a chance to survive on this market for long, unless it has something that stands out. Everyone can't produce a graphics monster like Crysis, especially not 3drealms with its limited budget and personel. Compared to CryTek, no matter the experience and recognition, 3drealms is just a fart in the wind regarding size and economy. So what I really hope 3drealms have worked most on, is to make a game that will get recognition for its gameplay value and immersion - not about some stinking *****ing graphics! I'll admit it, I'm still a little fuzzy regarding where my opinion stands. The graphics are after all what gives the first impression and it didn't awe me and I feel a bit lost. Please 3drealms, I'm begging to some kind of higher power, which I don't believe in, that you have really made one of the best games (in its genre) like you've hyped it to be.

The question stands - will Duke once again be hailed as

The question stands - will Duke once again be hailed as the king (of games), or just become another overhyped looser with the longest production time in history?

If you have so many thinks to say for a one minute trailer then you will definatly need 500 pages for a full review of the game!!! Good stuff nevertheless!!!

As i recall isn't scheduled for 360 its only for PS3 and Wii, from what i read on another site. Might want to change that.

   Re: Karuto - 2007-12-20
 » Wii...?

As far as I can tell, it won't be on the Wii. Graphics-intensive games like this can't even think about taking that kind of step back (no offense to Wii-owners -- it's just as with Unreal 3 games). I believe PS3, 360, and PC are most likely.

Either way, I wouldn't trust any source other than 3DRealms, since so little has been given out aside from the trailers.

Myself I dont care a monkeys tit what platform. The Duke rulz an if I cant get it on xbox then I will have to buy an extra console. more choice more fun.

3D realms: Bring it on.
The Duke. The name says it all. The biggest the baddest and the best action game hero of all time. Dont get me wrong there are some great games out there but so many owe there success to the impact that the Duke made. This guy was the first real action shooter hero for kids growing up and grown ups that are still kids.
Quake and Doom are cool but the Duke is there lineage. Me I'm 50 and a little tired of Duke style steerotypes and I am ready for the return of the Godfather of kicking alien but with my cigar that was stolen. Sarge, times up and now return that cigar to the rightful owner.
Seriously though, Sarge in Quake and the Chiefs mentor in Halo have had to keep the cigar burning. I for one appreciate the developers tongue in cheek salute to the Duke....................but please move over anti smoker campaigners as it is time to do some serious fun gaming.
