Why Two Different Developers Made Two Different Console Ports Of 'Enemy Territory: Quake Wars' - Image 1

Those who have been keeping their ears close to the ground for news on Enemy Territory: Quake Wars would probably know that the two different teams ported the PC game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Kevin Cloud, lead artist and co-owner of id Software, explains why the studio decided to place two different teams to work on the two different platforms:

Nerve has a lot of experience on the 360 but they don’t have a lot of experience on PS3 development. For a team that would have to do both for a small company, we felt that it would be best to put the 360 development with a team that really knows the 360 and put the PS3 development with a team that knows the PS3 and that was Underground.

The split between the two teams inevitably led to different creative choices between the versions. One of the major differences is that the Xbox 360 will get two modes that aren't on either the PC or PS3 version: Training Mode and Campaign Mode.

Aside from these two, the 360 version will also get an achievement list (of course). The 360 version however, will not be able to cycle through the different missions as the PC version can. The PS3 version has this feature intact, however.

Both versions will get improvements in AI though, making them more player-focused. Both will also feature leaderboards that will be posted on their respective networks. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars released on May 30 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
