Nikko Bellic - Image 1Game Informer's whole question and answer portion for Grand Theft Auto IV is already out, and there's two things you can definitely say about it. The first: Andrew Reiner is a lucky man for being the first journalist to see the game, and we're glad he's offering details to the public. Second: Rockstar Games is certainly keeping mum on so many different topics.

Since you probably won't want to hear about how our lead character can climb up telephone poles, let's talk about two things that you guys want to read about: transportation, and jacking said transportation.

First off, planes are still a no-go for GTA IV, but there will be helicopters. Contrary to earlier rumors, no helicopter types have been revealed yet, so we'll have to wait for more info before we can judge how fun flying will be. In addition, boats will probably be making an appearance, which seems to be granted given that Liberty City will be divided into boroughs and surrounded by water in certain areas.

More importantly, jacking said modes of transportation is slightly more realistic, in the sense that you'll be breaking into them, rather than simply opening them up for your use. That being said, driving will also get certain visual upgrades. As Reiner notes,

From what I was shown, the only new element was breaking the window of the car to get in. The animation for this was awesome, and something I wish I had seen more than once. The car I saw was newer in make – which was evidenced in both the beautiful crimson sheen and suspension that handled pot holes and variances in the road with ease. Now, I only saw one car, but it really did have that new car look to it. It’ll be interesting to see how Rockstar handles the shocks and struts for other vehicles in the game.

If I had to give a comparison, I would say that the new camera angle positioning is more like Midnight Club now. It’s closer, allowing the player to see more of the minute detailing on the car, and also lower, allowing you to see more of the horizon and verticality of the city.

All in all, it's not a lot to go on, but it's certainly worth waiting in line for. Now, if only Rockstar would open up some more about the game...

lower camera?! i should hope not. in san andreas i could never see what was in front of me which was frustrating. i do not care about the horizon, i want to see where i am going.
sounds awesome though, really cannot wait.

breaking windows? what about hot wiring the car? What happens if the car automatically locks the doors while trying to steal a car that someone is in already? do you break that window and hold on while the driver takes off

 » WTF!?!

WTF no planes? they had planes in GTA: San Andreas and that would be a step backwards to not have any planes

 » no wtf

Did you ever stop to think that perhaps R* will be making more than one GTA in this engine? They can add planes then. Adding in all the good stuff at once is like going right for the clitoris. How about a kiss boy? Start with a kiss.

   Re: pwnt (Unregistered) - 2007-04-26
 » Exactly

What are you going to do with a plane when the whole game takes place in the city? Crash it?

Almost went too far there, but still the example works, you can't do anything with the plane

C-lo:Yeh well call in trance

Trance:yeh ill be right there

(takes off in plane)

Trance:"kills while listening to Die mother *****er"

no GTA is so untrue to the whole gangster motif
gangsters are the retarded italian mobs of the old days
GTA needs to rethink on how to make a game like that not no Bull***** ass ooo i got a gun i walk around town i kill 30 people cops are on me...ooo no wat am i gonna do kill myself with a rocket launcher and walk out the hospital with out being in crime status nemore...also

laws like speeding carrying a weapon out in public and bullet damage never been integrated into no games...

if i shoot u in a arm ur arm should not work nemore...
if i shoot u in the leg i expect u to limp or crawl towards me...

srry just many things like this never been fully used in any crime game at least all at once...I will go to skool to make games and u guys wait till i do and u will see the best gangster game ever made i promise u that

ill look forward to ur failure piece of crap

   Re: david (Unregistered) - 2007-04-26
» I would have to agree on one thing

And that is that the Italian gangsters are much more interesting than the black people who do the whole "bust a cap in yo ass" thing, just isn't cool. Nothing against black people, just it isn't very interesting. Probably why I liked SA the least.

Hopefully since it's set in NYC (LC) again, it'll go back to the Mafia.

I would also have to agree with Me (god I hope you're not the same fa.g who can't stop hating on Halo) on how Rockstar really needs to fix the gunplay, the aiming is sh*t in ALL GTA games, and it astounds me that they could not fix it in three major releases.

 » Interesting but...

I keep hearing everybody who played or have seen the game that the game looks nice, that pedestrians A.I is well improved, that the view is nicer, that you break windows to get in, etc. What about talking about the gunplay or onfoot gameplay? Let's face it, Rockstar really needs to improved these because shooting at enemies or fighting with them is kind of crappy more like a poor beat'em up clone.
