NPD Group's US results released - Image 1 If you've been waiting for the NPD Group's data on hardware and software for the month of February, then wait no more. The official results are now in, and it appears that they're largely in line with market expectations.


In a nutshell, the Sony PS3 outsold the Microsoft Xbox 360 at 280,800 units and 254,600 units, respectively. The Nintendo Wii topped the sales charts with 432,000 units sold. On the gaming end, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare  (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) was at Number 1, followed by Devil May Cry 4 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360).

Below are partial listings of the actual units sold for both hardware and software during the previous month, according to the NPD Group:

  1. Nintendo DS - 587,600
  2. Nintendo Wii - 432,000
  3. PlayStation 2 - 351,800
  4. PlayStation 3 - 280,800
  5. Xbox 360 - 254,600
  6. PlayStation Portable - 243,100
Software Sales
  1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) - 296,200
  2. Devil May Cry 4: (Xbox 360) - 295,200
  3. Wii Play - 289,700
  4. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) - 233,500
  5. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (Wii) - 222,900
  6. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS) - 205,600
  7. Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) - 203,600
  8. Turok (Xbox 360) - 197,700
  9. Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (PS2) - 183,800
  10. Rock Band (Xbox 360) - 161,800
