Final Fantasy XIII - Image 1We all k now that the Final Fantasy XIII(PS3, 360) demo will be packaged with the Advent Children: Complete Blu-ray release come March next year. What we did not hear then at Square Enix' DKS3173 event was that it may be sold separately after the Complete's release.

That's the buzz we're getting now from Final Fantasy-XIII.Net, armed with Dengeki's interview with Nomura. It's kind of preposterous to hear of a demo being sold separately, but the demo is said to be 90 minutes long, after all. The sheer size of it makes it impossible for the PlayStation Network to host it. Still, will people bite the bait and buy?

Anyway, nothing else is completely final at this point regarding the matter, although there are a few more details on the compilation:
  • All of the Final Fantasy XIII titles are based around extremely fast combat.
  • Final Fantasy Agito XIII will have both command input and action elements in it's gameplay.
  • Each character will have their own individual summon.
  • Agito is currently running on PSP hardware but won't be released until after Final Fantasy XIII and Versus because of the lengthy story and large amount of characters.
Very juicy, indeed, eh? We'll get back to you as soon as there are more updates on this.

That's just stupid.
Isn't the idea of a demo to give it away for free so people will be tempted into buying the full game

» unless they have a way to redeem the money...

when you buy the real game later on. Might work kinda like a rebate. If that is the case honestly I don't mind.

I think it's okay to sell a demo IF (if in big bold letters) you get a rebate on the full game. Pay 30 bucks for the demo and pay 30 bucks for the full upgrade. Or just buy the complete game for 60 bucks in the first place. Otherwise it's crap.

   Re: Nevers - 2008-09-02
 » I'm totally in agreement

with getting a rebate on the game if you purchase the demo cuz if that's not the case, that's a total rip off.

Course I don't know how they will entice new players... that is the point of the demos, right? To entice people to buy your product who wouldn't normally otherwise????

Oh no! That would be like having something called Grand Turismo Prologue! Cause we know that will never happen!

» think about this for a sec guys.....

either square enix has completely lost it or this upcoming final fantasy game is really gonna blow our minds. lets really take a look at what their doing here or better yet lets ask ourselves this question. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SELL A DEMO?! okay that were we are now but look at it like this... Who?.....in their right mind.. would sell... a.. Demo?!?...man!,.. that's gotta be one hell of a demo. seriously though,.. people,... That's gotta be one Hell of a demo.

   Re: Quixand - 2008-09-02

Prologue is a demo obviously hasn't played the game yet and is just pulling cr@p out of his @ss...

   Re: lavino - 2008-09-02
» GT Prologue is not something new

There were Prologue even back in GT3 for Japan release as I recalled and besides it is different from the FF demo since Prologue really is a stand alone game.

there is no chance in hell of me "buying" a demo. if they can't restrict the size of the demo to within the conditions that psn impose then don't bother.

   Re: chessboxer - 2008-09-02
 » The

PSN doesn't have a size limit. Siren is over 9GB and is available for download and Burnout Paradise is going to be available as a download too with all of the currently available patches included.

The only limit will be the HDD and a 320GB drive can be bought for £62 (around $111 in the US).

Some people will buy the demo. I'm more interested in Versus XIII which I imagine will get a 2010 release now.

As for GT5 Prologue, it's a precursor and sampling to the full game GT5, which pretty much sums it up as a demo, albeit a feature packed demo. It's not a full game and exactly the same thing was done with GT4 Prologue and GT4, which was released one year later in 2004.

why sell the demo?
is the game THAT amazing? if it is worth buying a demo .
or does the rest of the game suck so bad , more people would buy the demo?

   Re: Quixand - 2008-09-02
 » honestly if

they did not go the 360's way i might be one of those buyers.... you know, getting so hyped up for the next big PS3 exclusive especially since i'm an FF die hard... i mean why not it's just probably going to be around $25-$50 i spend more money on cigarettes...

but now after announcing it on the 360 i won't get it anymore cause selling a demo after that will just be too greedy.

   Re: xxSuiseiseki - 2008-09-02
 » @ Quixand

Why does it matter if it's exclusive or not? It's still going to be FFXIII whether it's just on PS3 or if it's on PS3 and Commodore. (That's an extreme example, but it worked I guess)

   Re: zeromatrix75 - 2008-09-02
» Its not worth the money

Exclusivity matters when it comes down to time and quality. So i wont be getting the demo if I have to pay for that crap. I'll be interested in this game by around 2011 when it might actually come out. I'm more pissed about the simultaneous release though. They better change that crap making us wait for the 360

   Re: trigger - 2008-09-02
 » does it matter?

why is everyone so upset about square enix doing this or square enix doing that? can't people just be happy that the game is coming to this or that system? everything else is just plain corporate politicking that's common in whatever industry you look at.

look at microsoft and apple. probbaly the two greediest sons and daughters of b!tchez i've seen in my lifetime, and what does the consumer think about their new os this or their new os that? "yay! give us more! yeah we all know you guys are just ripping off each others' systems, just get the damned thing out now."

for example, the common criticism about apple is that they release so many generations of ipods and iphones it's like they can't sit still and they're trying to milk their market.. yeah, everyone knows that. everyone knows that as soon as you buy an ipod, steve jobs will announce the nextgen ipod the day after or something.

people understand and agree that they're all greedy bastards, and what do they do? they just laugh about it. make fun of steve jobs on snl or madtv or something. but in the end, they still buy an ipod or mac. or they buy vista or whatever microsoft is cooking. whatever.

but now that square enix shows signs of being greedy? of being commonly politickal in their retail manouvers? people will stop buying the game and lose heart because of that?

LOL

i mean, i understand that it's something to be disappointed about but geez grow up. welcome to the real world.

I remember playing the FF7 demo from a tomb raider demo disc on my pc. That hooked me and now I've played every final fantasy game that ended up in english (except 11). That demo was free.

Paying for a demo seems... Wrong. Not neccessarily because I wouldn't pay for a 3 hour demo because if it saved me on a game I may not like, it might be worth it (which may be the case). But what this says to me, is that they have spent a lot of time and energy on developing an "okay" game and they aren't even confident enough to show it to the masses. They are only confident enough to show it to the fanboys who would pay for the demo. (assuming it's released before the game comes out) Pair that with the almost non existant gameplay footage and it's enough to make any FF fan squeemish.

/All that aside, I guess I'll be happy so long as they don't have a michael jackson nancy boy (12) or whiney mctidus (10) in this new one. *sarcasm* I know I play video games to pretend I'm a character who wants to cry after every conversation :P */sarcasm*

 » lol

Paying for a demo? lmao.

I would've at least considered it if the game was still exclusive but i'm not going to buy a demo for a multiplatform game (which is getting delayed even more now) especially since Square-Enix is behind it. They just don't know how to make a good final fantasy game for consoles. They should just stick to handhelds if anything.

Now that I really think about it. I guess I take that back. If the demo was $1 or so then I would probably buy it but I wouldn't buy a $10 demo or anything like that. Most of the demo will probably be nothing be cutscenes anyways so you'll probably only have 5-10 minutes of actual gameplay.

I think it okay to sell the final fantasy demo n i maybe buy it if the demo is full upgrade n it hav interes stories.

 » Back in my day......

Well demos being free is actually a new concept. Before you had to buy a magazine to get a disc of demos which usually sucked. Other times you had to buy an entire game and the demo just happened to come with the game to boost sales, so buying the stand alone demo is actually a nice option. This day and age they do usually come free, but it is FF.

   by ISOHaven - 2008-09-02
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

If the demo were hosted on PSN then free would be the best bet. But if you need to press, package and ship a disc to a store then there is nothing wrong for charging for it.

   by platon - 2008-09-02
 » For around 5$ I'm all in! :D

And this would mean BIG money for S-E, having us to pay 5$ more per copy (or at least surely 50% of the copy).

They could also let us have the demo with last remnant if the game finally pop one day. :D

   by Tball - 2008-09-02
 » Not interested.

This company is pushing their luck. First they hold up the PS3 version so they can produce the game for the 360, and now they want to charge for a demo? I used to get excited about FF releases but, after the last couple of releases the FF franchise has lost some flair. My opion only but since the release of the MMO, RPG's just are not the same anymore!

   Re: Izuna - 2008-09-02
 » mmhm

FFXIII is going to be the first actual FF game that will be released. FFXI was an online project, which wasn't going to be called FFXI at first- and FFXII was a game that was being created since Chrono Cross. The reason why the FF games haven't been good since IX (and I'm not saying IX was really good, but better than ->) is because the company no longer has the guy who made the friggin series.

Hironobu Sakaguchi left, he works at MistWalker now- and he made 2 great games which you should check out ;)
   by Izuna - 2008-09-02
 » FFS

You people are dumb, ofcourse you are not going tobuy the demo... it's in Japanese!

Localization is going to start when the port for the 360 happens, so no, even if it was on PSN it would be useless to you... unless ofcourse you want to play a game you wouldn't be able to understand when you could just youtube the damn thing.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-09-03
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Why do you assume no one here speaks/reads Japanese? Welcome to life buddy, there's more on this planet then what you see on your local street! There's a great big world out there.
   by jacobian91 - 2008-09-04
 » I agree

with most of you that selling a demo is pretty dumb.

On a side note, I have a couple questions.

What is the difference between FFXIII and vsXIII?
Also, are there any FF games out or being developed for the Wii? Just curious.

KH would be nice to get on Wii.
Wish I had money for a PS3, though.
