Lumines - Image 1

Q Entertainment's popular Lumines franchise is headed as a downloadable title for the PlayStation Network! It may have taken a while to happen, but I'm pretty sure some of you may have expected it coming. After all of their Xbox Live Arcade titles (Lumines Live!, anyone?), it was only a matter of time before they would invade the PS3 platform too.

Famitsu has reported that Q Entertainment is cooking up Lumines Supernova, which still uses the basic elements and gameplay mechanics of previous titles. For this PSN title though, Q will be bringing new stages and modes, including one called "Dig Down" and another mode that allows you to create your own music. Ooh, fab!

Unfortunately, at this time, no Lumines title is scheduled for a PSN release in other regions other than Japan. Famitsu reports that the game will land on their PS Store come this fall.

*Update* We've finally gotten confirmation of Famitsu's initial details about Lumines Supernova via a press release, straight from Q Entertainment. And for all intents and purposes, the press release implies that the game is now also confirmed for a worldwide release this fall.

Here's the fact sheet:
  • Skins, skins and more new skins: Enjoy unlimited gameplay and unlock up to 40 stylish skins in Challenge Mode, including brand new skins
  • All-new Dig Down Mode: Using the falling blocks, erase squares from a playfield already filled with blocks as you dig down to the bottom. Show off your digging skills as your completion time is ranked based on clearing 20 consecutive stages
  • All-new Sequencer Mode: Create your own background music using the sound loops provided in the "Sound Bank" -- drums, bass, synthesizer 1, synthesizer 2 and effects each come with 20 different loops
  • Skin Edit Mode: Customize your Lumines experience by creating your own playlist with your favorite skins
  • Time Attack Mode: Test your skills and see how many blocks you can erase in a given amount of time and compete with your own record
  • Puzzle / Mission Mode: Act quickly with the falling blocks to create shapes/designs and clear the playing field in just a few moves (100 puzzles and 50 missions)
Unfortunately, no info on the PSN pricing has been revealed.

 » Lumines addictive!

Don't get me started playing this one because I may not be able to put it down. I got hypnotized by the PSP version and I think a 1080p version would pull me into a place of no return. Lumines is highly addictive. I must play this new game!
