We spotted a few more details regarding the new firmware for Sony's next gen PS3 console. If you're running Windows Vista on your PC, then this will be good news for you. According to Carl Nelson of the HCW Tech Blog, firmware 1.80 will let you share media on your Vista-running PC with the PS3. Well, Vista does support DLNA after all. |

Will be possible to play xvid on PS3?
with nero media home
I have nero home, every thing was cool yestrday. today nero home/media home does not show any files, any ideas? I've messed with nero scout, no luck.
is much better than MS bs player, and it streams xivd too
were you able to get vlc to stream to a ps3? if so, was it straight forward?
there was a tourtial on how to do it somewhere ...but t onky work on a special modded version of vlc forgot where i read this...
at the inclusion of this feature in the update. Was not expecting. Not much was said about it, just focusing on upscaling, but this is a very nice bonus. I wasn't able to stream .avi files or anything like that, just pictures and music files.
I already posted this in the first thread but I will put it here too.
Also included in the update that was not in the changelog are:
1: When you have more than one window open in the internet browser you can see edges of the windows to the immediate left and right of the one you are viewing
2. More cool visualizations have been added to the music player
3. When you zoom in on an internet page (R3 I think) you can now use the L2 and R2 buttons to zoom in further
Good, but your statement nr. 3 is from before 1.80
ah, sorry bout that.
No new visualisations... I think that's meant to be coming in 2.00...
actually there are. Check it out.
a small tweak I noticed is the neon cursor that indicates your position. It use to always be blue and made it very difficult to see.
I find that Tversity instead of MP11, it work well http://www.tversity.com/home
It converts on the fly divx, xvid, wmv into mpeg2
Just set the profile to mpeg1 / mpeg2 and PS3 plays everything
Anyone? I'm having trouble with TVersity, the videos will only DL fron the internet but not play nor DL from the "server" interface in the XMB...
Go to the setting menu and change the profile from automatic to mpeg1 / mpeg2. Tversity's "ps3" profile is for the web browser
I hope this helps
First of all do you think tversity or vlc player works better depending on which one can you give a breif tutorial on how to use that one
if you're running ubuntu it's also good news. the setup is quite simple. this is the guide i used, if anyone is interested:
http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Ushare
ps3 will see it automatically, once usare is running.
have fun.
you can also use nero media home to stream xvid's to your ps3 and its real easy to set up
This Works like a charm!!!!!!!
Great news. Hopefully MS will follow suit.
The eaisest way i know how to do this is through Windows Media Player, but you have to upgrade to version 11. Once you have this, go to the options menu and select the "library" tab. Under this tab, click on "configure sharing" and turn sharing on. After this is on, do a search on your PS3 again and it should find your PC. But your PC will first ask for permission to either give access or deny the incoming connection from the PS3, so accept the connection through your PC and it should then found by your PS3.
I believe you could also use the Zune Software as it is also the same procedure for the Xbox 360 setup. I also heard Nero Home should also work.
oh, and another featured i noticed is that you can now scroll through the xmb using the analog stick.

any help? as far as i can tell my router is not blocking any ports, but media player can't find the ps3 on the network and the ps3 can't find the media player... any ideas?
i have enabled upnp

I love streaming stuff to my ps3 now if go use tversity's free streaming app. you can view xvid/dvix on any platform including the psp.
Does anyone know if it is possible to stream from linux to the ps3? I haven't found a DLNA server which runs on linux, but i'm new to dlna. all my media is on a linux server and I would rather not smb mount the drives and stream them to my windows pc them to my ps3.
ushare.geexbox.org
this can also ve done with windows XP media center edition
Nero 7 lets you stream a lot more and it does great justice to the PS3.
I had some trouble setting this up to begin with, seems my firewall was enabled ;D Got to test it on some xvid's and it worked as a charm. Though, be aware that the quality isn't all that.
Btw here's a link for a little tutorial on how you get this working with your PS3. I would personally recommend using Nero MediaHome for ths. It's the easiest to use, and supports almost everything.
