Ó

We spotted a few more details regarding the new firmware for Sony's next gen PS3 console. If you're running Windows Vista on your PC, then this will be good news for you. According to Carl Nelson of the HCW Tech Blog, firmware 1.80 will let you share media on your Vista-running PC with the PS3. Well, Vista does support DLNA after all.

If you're still running on Windows XP, it seems that upgrading to Windows Media Player 11 and fiddling with the settings a bit will still let you share your media. Some formats are still not supported though, such as native .ts files and lossless WMA files as well as DivX/XviD files. Anyway, here's a look at the PS3's XMB streaming media interface.

Nelson also notes that video streaming seems a bit stifled at the moment, and recommends that you "need to demux, convert the audio to stereo, then remux again". Mac users, on the other hand, are advised to try installing either TwonkyMedia (if you have money) or the VideoLAN VLC media player (if you don't).

at the inclusion of this feature in the update. Was not expecting. Not much was said about it, just focusing on upscaling, but this is a very nice bonus. I wasn't able to stream .avi files or anything like that, just pictures and music files.

I already posted this in the first thread but I will put it here too.

Also included in the update that was not in the changelog are:

1: When you have more than one window open in the internet browser you can see edges of the windows to the immediate left and right of the one you are viewing

2. More cool visualizations have been added to the music player

3. When you zoom in on an internet page (R3 I think) you can now use the L2 and R2 buttons to zoom in further

 » Try Tversity

I find that Tversity instead of MP11, it work well http://www.tversity.com/home

It converts on the fly divx, xvid, wmv into mpeg2

Just set the profile to mpeg1 / mpeg2 and PS3 plays everything

Anyone? I'm having trouble with TVersity, the videos will only DL fron the internet but not play nor DL from the "server" interface in the XMB...

 » Re to PBOT

Go to the setting menu and change the profile from automatic to mpeg1 / mpeg2. Tversity's "ps3" profile is for the web browser

I hope this helps

» How to find media servers

The eaisest way i know how to do this is through Windows Media Player, but you have to upgrade to version 11. Once you have this, go to the options menu and select the "library" tab. Under this tab, click on "configure sharing" and turn sharing on. After this is on, do a search on your PS3 again and it should find your PC. But your PC will first ask for permission to either give access or deny the incoming connection from the PS3, so accept the connection through your PC and it should then found by your PS3.

I believe you could also use the Zune Software as it is also the same procedure for the Xbox 360 setup. I also heard Nero Home should also work.

oh, and another featured i noticed is that you can now scroll through the xmb using the analog stick.

 » Use Nero 7

Nero 7 lets you stream a lot more and it does great justice to the PS3.

 » Nero 7 Works great

I had some trouble setting this up to begin with, seems my firewall was enabled ;D Got to test it on some xvid's and it worked as a charm. Though, be aware that the quality isn't all that.
Btw here's a link for a little tutorial on how you get this working with your PS3. I would personally recommend using Nero MediaHome for ths. It's the easiest to use, and supports almost everything.
