Just like your classic Silent Hill critter, Konami's US-based development studio came out of the dark to reveal a few details on Silent Hill 5 (PS3, Xbox 360). They discussed a few things with 1UP in the video, and we loved every single bit.

Despite being in the hands of western developers this time around, the next installment to Resident Evil's biggest contender in survival-horror space seems to follow the graphical style of its predecessors. As the devs said, the setting they created should be familiar to fans while still hospitable enough to newcomers.

The protagonist is now more capable than a random pedestrian. As a former soldier, Alex Shephard's got more moves to fend freaky creatures off. To make up for it, Konami made sure that enemies live up to the challenge. Players can now do light and heavy attacks, dodge, counterattack, and use firearms proficiently, but a couple of hits can drop the dude to the ground.

 » Well...

Looks like the devs for Silent Hill 5 saw the Silent Hill movie... Sheesh, everything from the bathroom sequence to the design of the nurses. The devs also talked a lot about using "Silent Hill cliche's" and sticking to the 'roots' so fans will like it. That makes me nervous because it sounds like it might just be a carbon copy of previous games. Time will tell...

They obviously say previous GAMES...that's how "Alternate" Silent Hill's supposed to look, and how the nurses have looked (pretty much) like that since SH2. It's the SH feel, if you don't like it, you have poor taste in survival horror and should go play the first three RE games.

First thing I thought when i saw the bathroom sequence was, "The stupid douche bags copied the movie. Oh no...." I always loved how the character would just black out or something then wake up in the Alternate SH, I hated the peeling away style in the movie... I'm nervous about this game now...

I am a huge fan of the Silent hill series and I got all them which I've played more than 5 times each! I can say with confidence that one of the most important ingridients of the success of these series was that the person you whould control in the game was no different than you and me...
That immediately had you scared *****less knowning that you are stack in that psyhcotic environmet with a pesrson just like...well anyone...
For all of you that played all of the Resident evil games you know what am talking about, RE4 was good in terms of a shooter of some sort...It had absolutly nothing to do with the spirit of previous RE titles (ex. the sense of confinement, the riddles, the constant anxiety of a zombie jumping through a window or something etc...).
If am not mistaken and i wish I am, i think the silent hill games are finished for those who loved it the way it was originally done...
I quess we'll just have to wait and see...

Western developer for a western audience. What'd you expect? I'm actually really excited that now I can finally control a person that knows what they're doing.

 » Re4 was absolutley fantastic...

There never have been riddles in RE series. Loved every RE ever made. Not so much SH

so these guys are basically saying the combat controlls and stuff were total suck and they are changing them, I never played 4 but i dont remember the first 3 being heavy on the fighting, you either ran by most of the stuff or gave them a few wacks with a stick to give yourself a chance to run away.
The most important part of the games for me was the atmosphere, enviroment and the story

 » meh..

Is this game coming for ps2 or what? sh4 looks way better than this. This guy moves like a robot, and the clothes is like he is wearing a paper box shirt.... Not cool and not next gen. And why make a better battle system... make a better story! not just a collage or al SH.. Make better monsters too, im getting kind of bored with the designs. And hey! silent hill has more places to visit its crap that every game you have to revisit the same places even if they look diferent... i want to visit everyones houses, library, mcdonalds, sex houses (what do you call them? english not my native language).
Anyway, for the same of the serie i hope the come up with a special filter that make this poor graphics look better..or add more fog so i cant see this crap. And the combat system make it better but if you´re going to do that... then add more monsters... SH3 kicked a$$ but you shoot like 3 times per hour.
