First official Dragonball movie promotional image, cast details - Image 1Behold the juiciest piece of information we've encountered
so far on Dragonball. Boys and girls, feast your pretty little eyes on the photo on the right. It's the first ever shot of Son Goku from the Dragonball movie.

As you can see, real people are found on it. This simply means the whole movie adaptation is going to be one great live action movie. The promotional image was first spotted in Weekly Shonen Jump, which incidentally is also where the Dragonball manga originally appeared in.

So far, there's still little information and details on this upcoming film. Justin Chatwin from the movie War of the Worlds will be playing the lead role as Son Goku. Chow Yun-Fat will be playing Master Roshi.

As for the crew, James Wong from Final Destination will be the director and Stephen Chow from Shaolin Soccer will be the producer. That's about it for the movie. Well, enjoy the scan we've provided here. We promise to keep you guys updated with more news on this upcoming movie.

 » Hair?

Ugh.. wheres the hair people?

Don't just spike the guys hair up like he's a Tetsuya Nomura character! This is Akira Toriyama.. and the character is an ALIEN!

Get it right!

The character's hair is supposed to be messy and unkempt. I'd say they hit the nail on the head.

I'd say it looks pretty ugly.

Could have done a better job at it.
I do like the looks of bulma though +D

This movie looks like it will fail horribly. I think even Uwe Boll could handle this better.

That looks nothing like Goku and if you look at his shirt, it looks like it will be a modernized, more-realistic approach. He isn't wearing the traditional orange Gi, but instead just some random long-sleeve shirt with the old logo on it.

at least we got concrete evidence that the movie will actually see a release this time
i been hearing bout the DBZ live action movie for ages, and to see some actual proof that this may see the light of day is awesome

What does this have to do with DS...? Or games in general for that matter?

Re: Aces In The Palm - 2008-05-13
 » LOL

thats even more retarded than saying "whats this got to do with PSP"
at least QJ used to be known as PSPupdates.net
nowadays QJ is so much more than just console news
*MyQJ* (not sure, blogs i think), *QJ.NET* (Main Page) , *Apple* (PC that most virii wont run on...but neither will most programs), *Mobile* (Mobile technologies such as phones, PDAs, Notebooks, iPods and other mobile tech), *Photo* (Photography I'm guessing), *Science* (find awesome stuff here), *MMORPG* (those time consuming online games normally associated with nerdness), *Nintendo DS* (Hello the first console and the only one from this generation i dont yet own), *Wii* (nothing to do with DS...OK if you dont take games seriously...i however do and would only play brunswick bowling and NiGHTS:Journey into Dreams (retro memories from sega saturn days)), *World of Warcraft* (Never tried it but is one of the MMORPG games mentioned before), *PlayStation 3* (my favourite console of this generation mainly due to brand loyalty {yes I'm a fan boy, but note i dont think sony are better than microsoft to say..i just hope sony do well with every release because ive learnt to trust the brand...if i was to be honest i couldnt pick between x360 and ps3 gamewise...ps3 would win still because of bluray player), *PSP* (Awesome, even better homebrewed....thanks to pandora and Despertar Del Cementerio), *Tabula Rasa* (i have no idea what this is), *Xbox 360* (Great machine with great games...i have ixtreme firmware...pity the ixtreme firmwares only let you play backuppirated ISO's and not homebrew), *Gadgets* (007 Type Devices), *PC Gaming* (the best gaming platform now and ever...too versatile and too easy to perform simple upgrades to ever be beaten), *DL.QJ* (download centre), *Trade Games* (wanna swap a crap game for one thats even worse?).
i could of said it alot shorter
but this site has never focused solely on DS
once upon a time it focused squarely on PSP (PSPupdates.net)

what does it have to do with games in general
nothing....except for those popular DBZ games

 » lmao

Some DBZ fanboy must've marked everybody down. I've seen the old Japanese movie they did for Dragonball and that even looks better than this movie. This movie will suck more than the Hitman movie. Although, i'm not sure if that is even possible so I think they will have to both suck equally.

will be *****ing garbage. If Goku is going to be played by the dude in War of the Worlds there is no hope in this.

Americans, have you had enough? you took The eye, The Grudge, The Departed, even My Sassy Girl, and now, Dragonball? What's next, The Seven Samurai (true rumor, George Clooney will be a Samurai, wtf.)? I'm tired of these Westerners playing Asian roles. i mean, come on! All you want is the money. Please stop.

   Re: FireFly7 - 2008-05-12
 » F^ck

you for generalizing everyone in the US.

   Re: roddollente - 2008-05-12
 » i am

referring to American companies that are just after the profit. for example, the Weinstein Company will do a DIRECT remake of The Seven Samurai. alot of movies have remade the Seven Samurai (e.g. Magnificent Seven) but no one dared to do a DIRECT REMAKE (original title will be used). remember, Scorcese (sorry for the misspelling) won Best Director in an Oscar for The Departed. it wasn`t even mentioned in the credits that it was taken from an Asian film. i know they already bought the rights, but they must at least give credit to the original films. i think only a few out of those who watched The Departed know that it was taken from an Asian film. they were all so amazed by the plot and storyline, but they didnèt know it wasnèt the original. the USès creativity is basically on a dump for jsut remaking a TON of Asian movies. you know what, you people might as well re-paint the Mona Lisa.

   Re: rpgpro001 - 2008-05-12
 » but still

the way it came out, that was kind of harsh... even though i am American, and have family in the film industry
Anyway, it goes both ways, i have seen japanese remakes of original American films/stories, as well as other countries, especially if the series is popular it that area (as DB ans DBZ was in US)
On a lighter note, i hope it does not suck, because it will hurt my childhood (and maybe my manhood, depending on who i see it with, lol)

   Re: HakatoX - 2008-05-22
» someone doesnt know thier film...

yes all you say is true...except
the seven samurai was adapted into a western in the 60's named the magnificent 7.

secondly I know hundreds who dont want to read subtitles or have to watch an overdub.

get out America's ass and realize there are far more people out there who deserve to see ANY story they are willing to pay for. so stuff it,.

Yo roddollente, Chill man. Many people from around the world like dragonball z. Im mexican, and im glad the US is making a movie in english that subtitles are not needed. So what if the americans are playing the asian roles??? The US has asian, white, black, indian, mexican, etc..... So i find it alright to have whites play dragonball. Throw a latino, or a black guy or indian. Dragonball has many multinational fans.

   Re: roddollente - 2008-05-12
 » really?

well, if SonGoku was white, as long as he spoke Japanese, it will be good. it's not about the race of who's playing or not, it's the culture! race is different from culture. heck, what would you do if you watched Superman or Spongebob in Japanese? come on. you know what happened when a Westerner plays The Last Samurai, right?!

   Re: tinglemaps - 2008-05-14
 » roddollente

Why would you want someone who speaks Japanese to play Goku, when he's NOT JAPANESE, he's saiyajin. He can speak whatever language he wants.
Really, it sounds like you have an inferiority complex. When you can afford to make a Dragon Ball movie, get whoever you want to play in it. Just realize that IT DOESN'T HURT YOU that this movie is made in America, staring Americans. You have no obligation to watch it. It can only effect you if you let it.

   Re: roddollente - 2008-05-20
 » what a moron

do you think in the ANIME AND MANGA WHERE THIS IS BASED THEY SPOKE SAIYAN LANGUAGE? geez. "because he's a saiyan he can speak whatever language he wants!" what a stupid remark. does that mean it is justified if Superman (Kryptonian) spoke Mandarin?! hell no! i've watched the all anime episodes and movies, and to think the original language will not be used on its live-action movie, and putting in Justin Chatwin as Son Goku, wtf are they thinking?! the US should stop feeding off of Asian movies. seriously.
   by Chivafighter - 2008-05-12
 » OH and

I never said that the movie is going to be good. But worth a shot to watch it and then judge it. It might be alright.

im so scared of this thing.....wow its going to be so retarded....why america WHY!?!? well as long as its going to exist we should be mildly positive right? RIGHT?!?!1/!?!?

   by Scarface88 - 2008-05-13
 » Ugh...

There's just no way that Dragonball can work as a live action movie. I'm glad they won't be putting Vegeta in; how could they get a guy with an awesome voice AND such a profound widow's peak?

   by Chivafighter - 2008-05-13
 » wow...

Now i thought that you DBZ fans would be happy about it. I sure am. I mean can you imagine one of the Greatest Cartoons/Anime in real life. Many people want to see the live action. I see nothing wrong with it. They made this movie for the money and for the fans. They asked for the right to make it and Akira thought it would be pretty good, with the EFFECTS OF THE US cinema which are pretty cool and life like.

» don't Underestimate the power of Stephen Chow

I've watch everyone of his movies and loved everysingle one....
Stephen Chow is so talented he can take any crappy idea and make it super awesome....shaolin wid soccer...wtf...kung fu mix with gangs seems to old fashion mix wid modern criminals.....

But he delivers...dam well miracles......

the only problem is he is a producer not part of the cast...

his talents can pull him through anything...but these so call young actors can barely act half @$$ed....not to mention the need to be fit, agressive and physical......

we got some laid back spoil america kids who are too busy raping and worring about their finger nails who can barely act or has any fist fighting action movie with the exception of Chow yun-fat....

I hope they would make it an asian movie because they understand this stuff.....Americans are not ready and don't appreciate these high intensity, FAST pace action pact movies...

Fat will have to do alot to get this rolling as the other characters are quite useless to play a "Dragonball movie".

I'm a big fan of Stephen Chow and believes in his miracles.....

I hope he overcomes the wall of china here and delivers...still much love to both Chows

 » From IMDB...

I don't think any of the actors in those pictures are dressed up for their character roles... Emmy Rossum just coincidentally happens to look very anime in that pic haha. She even look kinda Asian. But yea according to IMDB:

"To attain the quintessence of Dragon Ball, many of the actors were given unique hairstyles to resemble their anime counterparts (Emmy Rossum in particular was given two separate wigs for her role as Bulma, a traditional blue one as well as a never before seen pink one). Justin Chatwin, though, has no such hairdo since James Wong felt his hair resembled Goku's spiky hairstyle close enough without actually being silly."
