Since the GPU on the Xbox is an ATI it will work with folding@home, the thing is that if they did put folding@home on the 360 it would cause the deaths of lots of 360s before their warranties expire.

It's got a different type of processor suited for floating point calculations. Basically, HD video playback (360 can do it anyway) and protien folding are it's expertise. It just sucks for gaming.

Although the 360 has been out for bloody ages now and has some good games, its good to hear that the PS3 gets some original code and good press seen as all it has got so far is not so hot.
I have always hated game ports. Whats the point of playing a game thats an inferior experience because you bought a different console???
Original games made for the hardware in question is always how I purchase and always will. Little Big Planet will make me seriously want a PS3 and so will GT5 (cos the guys a perfectionist) for a start.
Apologies for all the insecure fanboy *****s and for the moment enjoy folding on the best Hardware untill a wave of new AAA titles surface and the strengths of the PS3 are exploited....

I was getting bored of the same ole "cover up" effects on certain consoles too (HDR and my Iris are two very different entities). Its like the over bright sun effect on the PS2 that simply got boring.

f@h is NOT about gaming power. unless your game is simply number crunching...
ok, the guy likes running f@h on the ps3 as it has those 7 spu's which are dedicated number crunching units.
the x360 has 3 more dynamic processors, the spu's can probs crunch numbers as fast as one of the x360's cpu's (maybe a bit slower) but can't do some of the things the x360's can. that's why the ppu handles those things.
the problem with the x360 is that it doesn't connect to the internet in the same way as ps3, xboxlive is great for gaming and accessing ms's own stuff, but if ms open it up to something like f@h then it changes somewhat. ALSO while f@h has been allowed to use the rsx (btw the numbers say rsx is a mite worse than the x360 gfx chip, but only like 1 or 2% performance) and the entire cpu on the ps3 - aka 7 cores, rsx and ppu. the x360's set up is that one cpu is running the user interface thingy (dashboard), one runs the main meat of a game, and the third picks up slack... this basically means f@h would have to overhaul the whole way ms have designed the x360 to make as much use of it as with the ps3.
with 3 powerful cpus and the ati gfx chip in the x360 i'm sure it could do the job as well as ps3 (give or take) but the way the systems are rigged it won't work like that.

Hi guys, could I just say complete unbiasedly as I have had a 360 and now own a PS3 that the 360 and PS3 are both good systems. The 360 has more games and a well estabilshed online service the downside of which is you have to pay which is understandable. The PS3 has an online service which is just as good as the 360s and to be honest is better designed and implemented plus it's free but doesn't have as much content YET. To the person who said that there is no-one on PSN, they are wrong and that statement is completely unfounded. There are plenty of people on PSN. In terms of reliability the PS3 is definitely more reliable than the 360. Of course some peoples PS3s may overheat but what electronic devices which produces such heat doesn't. When it comes to folding@home if the founder of the application believes that the PS3 are more worthwhile for folding then he must be right. Surely he has based his statement on substantiated facts and statistics, if not then of course who knows but I doubt he would of made his statement without doing his homework. Fanboyism and its brother, the console wars, are more destructive to gamers than Jack Thompson and Uwe Boll combined. They take the fun out of gaming, as we care more about competition than enjoying our games. We as gamers must stop this competitive nonsense before it gets as ridiculous and all-encompassing as the battle between Democrats and Republicans has become to the United States government.
I want to highlight that comparison, because I think it works well. Nowadays, politicians are solely focused on beating the other party. Republicans fire attourneys for disagreeing with the President while Hilary Clinton bullsh*ts to make herself look good and Nancy Polosi is the biggest ***** since...well, since Hilary Clinton. Meanwhile, kids too young to vote who don't even follow the news talk about how the President orchestrated 9/11 while at the same time saying he's too stupid to tie his shoes (apparently harder than orchestrating a massive conspiracy, eh?) and others have the nerve to say the military hospital issue was no big deal. Nobody is using common sense in politics anymore; it's just "us vs. them".
The same thing is happening in gaming, and it has to stop. Forget which system you own and which company you have been supporting for years. Even if you dislike company A for a reason you consider justifiable (i.e., something more reasonable than disliking company A just because you like company B), express it rationally and specifically. You can like and dislike whatever you want, but don't take it to the extremes or you'll just come out sounding stupid.
All the time we spend posting these comments could better be spend playing the very games about which we comment. It's not easy; we can't just make a choice to stop caring about competition unless we have unbelievable willpower. Everybody, especially people who write for gaming media, needs to stop. Because even though I know all the stuff I'm saying is true, I still get drawn in by the artificial prospect of any company failing that this sort of nonsense creates. I posted about this at my blog (unknownwarrior33.blogspot.com) and on MyQJ, and I got some comments from people who agree, so I know there are some of you out there. Please help me spread this message.
And in case any QJ writers are reading this, you guys can have a huge impact on this. Many of your articles mention the console wars and competition, specifically how certain events may affect them, and they also make or mention unnecessary comparisons between systems. Some of your articles keep neutrality excellently, but others are greatly lacking.
