UE3 Example

Fonix Corporation, a company that specialises in voice-recognition technology, has announced a deal with Epic Games in order to integrate their VoiceIn Game Edition voice-recognition software into their Unreal Engine 3. In case you haven't been keeping on top of the latest developments in video game technology, Epic's Unreal Engine 3 is designed to deliver cutting-edge graphics to the next generation of video games on both consoles and PC.

The Unreal Engine 3 is being used by Epic Games on developing titles such as Unreal Tournament 2007 for PS3 and Gears of War for the X360; as well as lending out the engine to other developers such as THQ and Sony Computer Entertainment Online. The integration of Fonix's VoiceIn Game Edition software allows developers to more easily add voice interfaces to Xbox, Xbox 360 PS2 and PS3 games.

Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games said: "We’re pleased to have Fonix join our Integrated Partners Program as it enables us to provide Unreal Engine 3 licensees with access to complementary technology that helps them deliver great content. Our licensees can be safe in the knowledge that Fonix has fully integrated VoiceIn and provides direct support for its use within Unreal Engine 3."

With the Unreal Engine 3 constantly being updated with new features and new companies joining Epic Games' Integrated Partners Program (IPP) for UE3, we can expect more game developers signing up to this engine quite soon. Take the picture of Malcolm the marine above as a prime example of what this engine can do - it's pretty impressive stuff.
