Ray Kurzweil GDC 08 - Image 1Those who plan on attending this year's Game Developers Conference are in for a rare treat, as it was announced that the much-decorated and renowned inventor and author Ray Kurzweil will be giving a keynote speech.

According to the GDC official website, Kurzweil will be discussing the next 20 years in gaming. He is scheduled to give his talk on February 21 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the Esplanade Ballroom in the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

For those unfamiliar with Kurzweil, he is the principle creator of some of the gadgets we take for granted everyday. Among his list of inventions include the first CCD flat-bed scanner, the first omni-font optical character recognition, the first text-to-speech synthesizer, and the first commercially marketed large-vocabulary speech recognition.

Kurzweil has also received fifteen honorary doctorates as well as honors from three U.S. Presidents. He has been inducted into the National Inventor's Hall of Fame, and received the national Medal of Technology back in 2002.
