GTA IV logo - Image 1Not much have passed since word broke out that Grand Theft Auto IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) won't be coming this October, but Take-Two is not taking any chances. To prevent confusion and conspiracy theories, chairman Strauss Zelnick jumped the trigger saying, "The reason it is being delayed is almost strictly technological problems... Not problems, but challenges."

CEO Ben Feder and Zelnick got their hands on the game's latest build before ultimately making the decision yesterday. Both of them expressed disappointment in having to push shipping dates, but Zelnick stated that the 6-month delay is sufficient and necessary.

"Given our commitment to set new standard for two relatively new hardware platforms simultaneously, [an October release] wasn't an acceptable path," Zelnick continued. He made it clear that the publisher-developer relationship between Rockstar and Take-Two was "rock solid," and Rockstar won't take heat for not meeting deadlines.

When asked where the trouble lies, Take-Two declined to give a definitive answer. On other fronts, the deal with Microsoft for exclusive content could very well commence before the game is even released, despite the fact that Microsoft won't be dishing out the initial pay before March 2008.

Avoiding the discussion altogether, the Take-Two executives could only reply, "We're not going to send money back to Microsoft. That's not part of the deal."

Some developers have complained about the difficulty that Sony's monster machine and its architecture brings to the development table, but Take-Two keeps mum on the matter. "The technology that we're developing for GTA IV is pretty complex. It's a big game, with technological challenges across the board on both PS3 and 360," said Zelnick.

Fortunately, it seems like we can expect GTA IV to live up to the hype. "[Rockstar] is pushing the envelope on both platforms...consumers will ultimately benefit," concluded Zelnick.

» the new launch (feb to april)

will hit around the MGS4 launch...

PS3 owners on a budget (time and money) will have some decision making to make as both games, expectedly, will have a lot of gameplay hours and developers of both are apparently letting it all out, both games will be amazing.

I thought if you were logged in as someone it wouldn't say UNREGISTERED right next to your name? Hhhmmm maybe I just don't understand. To the article though, I will be starting college so I couldn't afford to buy Halo 3 and GTA and the few Wii games coming out then so I'm okay with a pushback if it will be pushing the limit as they have stated

» DVD won't let it happen

They're having trouble fitting it onto the DVDs and the PS3 version is already ready. Ms is making them delay it so they can use the new DVD9 compression. They can't let the PS3 version come out until the 360 version is ready

   Re: neok182 - 2007-08-02
 » ,,,

or it could be the other way around. it's fine on DVD for both and the ps3 is just making it harder. we will never know so theres no point on putting blame on anyone.

either way. a dual layer DVD is 8.5 GB which should be more than enough considering San Andreas was only 4.5.

And if anything if it is larger than a dual layer dvd. just put it on a blu-ray for the ps3 and make it install to the hard drive on the 360. lots of ways around it. but don't put blame on stuff we don't know.

I almost wish SONY would be as disgusting and dispicable as m$ and knock on take2's gates holding a bag with a large dollar sign on it. Then convince them that they don't need to wait for the crappy 360 build is up and running, just release the PS3 version now. And then Moore would have to amputate that arm.

that as the ps3 is harder to develop for, even mentioned in this article that it could be the ps3 putting it behind hmm?

im thinking its both consoles.
There probaly having trouble wit the cell.
And Maybe 360 DvD9 Compersion.
IDk How Take Two could say That5 youll get a better experience on the 360 than the PS3.
Come on...swaping discs to go to another part of the city?? Thats gay. The Download content might only be a 30 minute experience. To me the 360 version doesnt sound as good as they try to say.
Before You guys throw ps3 fanboy at me..im not.

RockStar should just tell Microsoft "We are releasing GTA 4 and the HDD is required".
What is Microsoft going to do? Tell them No? This is a huge game for both consoles as it will give people a reason to buy a new console (I know a LOT of people who bought the PS2 for GTA 3).
Screw the stupid asses who bought a Core and didn't purchase an HDD yet. If they are that stupid they won't realize what GTA 4 is anyway.

 » How about this

Microsoft is paying them to delay it so Halo sells better. I wouldn't put it past Bill to pull some sh1t like this. At the end of the day it's all about money and this wouldn't surprise me in the least bit.

Read this:

PlayStation 3 complications caused GTA IV delay:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid+27326

(change plus character to equals to make that link work, or go to www.eurogamer.net)

Except for timed exclusives, whenever there's been a delay of a multiformat game, it's usually been the PS3 version;

http://pc.qj.net/Medal-of-Honor-Airborne-for-PS3-delayed-until-November/pg/49/aid/96874

Only this time, if that report is correct, the PS3 is holding up the 360 version. Still, that would mean that the 360 version of GTA4 can be polished and optimised even further during the delay.

» ^^^No KFC Guy, there is more to say

So does that mean we now know what he meant when he said;

"To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet." The difficulties aren't limited to working on Microsoft's box, as Houser explains that "both have enormous challenges" and that "both have their own particular pleasures and pains".

?

So, I guess we can assume that since the PS3 is responsible for the delay, any issues they have with DVD on the 360 is nothing compared to issues they have with the PS3, you know, the console which is holding the game BACK (allegedly)!

Those with common sense will know that GTAIV is not limited by the 360, but idiots (including the writer of that article) like to twist things around to make it seem that way, i.e. headline grabbing.

For example, if a PC magazine reporter had asked Rockstar if the memory of next-gen consoles creates limitations, then the answer would also be "YEP". Since the consoles have FAR LESS memory than a high end PC (even when taking the OS into account). So guess what the PC magazine would report in such a scenario, that's right "Rockstar: GTAIV limited by consoles".

Whilst the PS3 is not without it's learning curve, time will solve this issue, time will never solve the 360's lack of critical components for next-gen gaming.

 » reason for delay

They haven't even showed a PS3 build of the game so surely there are problems with it. All the gaming websites have seen the 360 build and previewed it. It is at that stage where it needs polishing and all but so does every game.

There isn't a hint of the PS3 version, no screens or previews so it obviously is the reason for the delay,

HARD DRIVE LESS Xbox-360's sold will hurt the full experience

i hope they take the extra time to take the ps3 to its full potential....just like they polished it up more with OBLIVIAN for the ps3........cause all PS3 have have at least a hard drive of 20 gigs or more....and disk space of 54 gigs and more than twice the power of the 360

soo im hoping they due what they did to oblivian where it takes up 4 gigs of memory, to give you a trouble free, Red Ring of Death proof and amazing experience....no loading times, bigger memory footprint means... tons bullet holes left everywhere, bazooka explosion marks, dead civilians, farther draw distance, no pop up's or hearing the LOAD!!! fighter jet landing noise the 360 makes to load stuff quick like in "Gears" and when cars that caught your eye dont dissapear every time you turn around........like in saints row

they 360 only has 500 mb of ram to put everything needed on screen , and plus custom music..... and backround downloads.....it takes too much out of powering the game

im not really rooting for this one cause i feel that the 360 without a hard drive will hinder the experience we could of had

im looking forward to GTA5 exclusivly for ps3....taken to its limit's

any ways you bad mouthed kids got your HALO' so go shoot em up.......while us true GTA-PS3 fans have a good time HAVING FUN, when it comes around again
