It has been confirmed that Eidos representatives expressed their displeasure to their appropriate contacts at GameSpot, but not to editorial directly. It was not the first time a publisher has voiced disappointment with a game review, and it won't be the last. However, it is strict GameSpot policy never to let any such feelings result in a review score to be altered or a video review to be pulled. |

Microphone seems ok to me even on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBD0cUeeEQc
I checked today and the same video was up on their site. Funny, I didn't notice that the mic sucked when I watched it on YouTube last week, but now it sticks out. Hmmm.
And they lied again too: There was another game, I can't remember the title, but the publisher wigged out over the review and they re-reviewed the game for them. It only got raised very slightly in the end, but it's enough for "it is strict GameSpot policy never to let any such feelings result in a review score to be altered" to be untrue. And yeah, the YouTube version that has been up this entire time has no audio noise at all, and the video recently re-posted to GameSpot now has noise in it. Nothing like manufacturing a lie and then manufacturing evidence to support that lie...
I just watched the review for the first time and I can see what all of the fuss is about. I like the review - it's honest...and I can see that some serious cash wagging and belly shifting went around here to get him canned (it's as obvious as saying that fire is hot).
Looks like a pretty *****e game - too bad that gamespot won't be my primary destination (ok it never was) for game reviews.
And you're right...I couldn't hear anything wrong with the audio myself - maybe they'll try to get youtube to pull the video now so that they can make their lies stick?
Bad dog - BAD DOG!
Yeah when I watched it, the microphone was bothering me. But even with these statements I can't be sure that the firing (or what people have been calling it, termination) of Jeff Gerstmann still doesn't have anything to do with Eidos.
