Gran Turismo 5 - Image 1

In an interview with Gran Turismo franchise creator Kazumori Yamauchi, Kotaku found out that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is still unconfirmed as far as a U.S.-Canadian release is concerned.

The Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive racing sim from Polyphony Digital is already set for release in Japan and Europe, but considerations are being made if there's significant interest in North America to make a release worthwhile.

The Gran Turismo series is perhaps the most critically-acclaimed racing video game of all time, stemming from the fact that it's always a lap ahead of the competition in terms of gameplay, visuals, and realism.

Yamauchi revealed that the sheer number of cars in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will make it feel like an automotive museum, sporting everything from vintage models to the latest releases.

The video game's revamped physics will be punctuated by the new Professional driving option which pushes settings to the most realistic a game has ever gone, doing away with mercy and allowing drivers to immerse themselves in a virtual high-octane experience. Damage mechanics will also affect not only how your car looks, but how it performs every time you take a hit.

The AI has also been built from the ground up, so don't expect anything from the old Gran Turismo games. A force feedback steering wheel is also in the works to up the ante on the GT experience.

 » I cant believe them

How can they question if there's enough interest in North America? SMH thats crazy. They Need to stop playin and release it asap

» I can believe them either

They are claiming that gran turismo was always a step ahead and was the best at everything first. GT compared to PC Racing sims is a lame duck. There is a lot of hope for it though. I love the GT series - but for hardcore simming - the pc is where it's at. This should not be confused.

 » if there's significant interest?????

they are joking right..........i mean what is it that europe have that we don't. and what ever happened to region free systems and games from sony. what kind of a moron do you have to be to not release it in north america. man those people are *****s. i mean 360 is disaster of a system in realiability bt they have ***** load of games and everything a gamer needs and that is why thet are selling. and then you have norons at sony contemplating if they should release a game or a demo that might help sell theire expensive systems.
5 minutes ago i was looking online to buy a 360 and then i was reminded of the crashing issues so i backed off. so the second obvious choice is ps3 after i saw prologue, but then i saw this turd of a news and i'm going what the *****. i swear in the name of all that is holly that i bought my ps one because of gran turismo and the ps2 because of gran turismo 3, and i'm sure i will buy ps3 because of gran turismo 5 but please stop ignoring the american market you *****s, there are so many games that we americans don't get to play and i am baffeled to find an answer.
i am reallu annoyed beyound description, *****in morons.............

Sony, Sony, Sony, you are really dissapointing me nowadays, first it it was the PS3 TV Tuner, then it was the GO! Services which are both exclusive to Europe, and now this. One of the best selling racing games this generation has seen. If Sony starts 'abandoning' America like this frequently, I will probably have to buy a Wii. I would buy a 360 but I dont feel comfortable about buying system that could possibly break.

Sony you used to be the best, and now your just struggling to survive the Console Wars. This are times that I am ashamed to be fan on your company.

» PS2 was the worst failure rate

Why would you worry about a system that had problems with its first hardware release just as the PS2 did with its DVD DRIVE OF DEATH millions failed but were replaced and the problems were sorted just like they are on the 360?.

The Elite is looking to be the next gen console and it runs perfect..

   Re: Apu (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » Um

i didnt buy a PS2 until like after there problems were fixed and seeing as how the 360 RROD still has high failure rate (33%, could even be more). The Elite doesnt run perfect, I know a few people that have had there elite catch the common RROD.

 » u.s. worthwhile?

what do u mean are we worth while... if u cant sell us on a free racing game (of the best racing sim series ever) then how the hell do u plan on sellin the full game here, which u didnt seem to have a problem with the first 4 times around... and about the damn tv thing every new sony tv in this country (and god knows there are prolly millions) has a dtv tuner that seem to pick up us terestrial tv signals all the time why cant u make one of these tether it to a usb cable and call it play tv?

 » Wait?

I thought Kazumari said it would be coming here like a few months ago in another interview. Im sure he said it. I need to go back and find that one.

Either way though, think about it. He said that about GTHD and then they descided to give it a go in the U.S. Even to this day, it remains the most popular download on the U.S. playstation network.

So I have ever confidence that it will come here.

 » Oh shut it

Just shut up! Europe gets *****ed over on American releases all the time and you dont hear us flapping our gobs like it's the end of the damn world... It's about time someting good came for us and you guys have to loose out for once...

trust me the games u guys dont get u dont want... and besides that there are plenty of other games that europe gets (not to mention gadgets) that we never see in the u.s. or see 2 years after the fact that we never complain about... but when it comes to our much beloved gt series we just cant do with out

   Re: Apu (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28

I keep telling you European's that Japan gets everything before us, so if you want to complain to any country then complain to Japan.

Japan-America-Pal Countries. Its not our fault we get it second when it should come out at the same time.

   Re: Whatever (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » Ok?

I've never left a message but i'm a little distressed about how Europe wines when they get left out or they hypothetically slap us in the face when they get something before us. All the other Americans on here must agree that--maybe, almost possibly, that Europe should only be too greatful for what they get at all? And at whose expense; theirs? Of course not. I'm not saying that the Europe of today is the Europe of yesteryear but you must remember that your grandfathers couldn't protect the skin on their ass for it wasn't for us. So next time you leave a blatant comment, *****ing about how you don't get what we get, it's not our damned faults. It's yours.

Re: Whatever talks rubbish (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
» Whatever, YOUR COMMENT - but you must remember that your grandfathers couldn't protect the skin on their ass for it wasn't for us. is bull*****

Great Briatain stood alone for TWO YEARS we were bombed everyday but as Sir Winston Churchill said WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER even if we have to fight ALONE.

The USA only came LATE into the war because of Japan and Pearl harbor so stop your crap, if Great Britain would of fallen so would the rest of the world especially as they would of also had British Scientists genius forced to help them Spitfire,Radar etc forced to help them...

   Re: animeGhost (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28

and that atomic bomb thing we americans came up with was just a silly fluke right....
   by fsdsdf (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
» Maybe the game just isnt very good..

Well I would guess the problem is Forza 2 is proberly the better game of the Two and though it sold okay the sales were nowhere as big as they should be.

Remember GT5 screenshots are all they are just screenshots that any 360/PC system could show, its all about the game engine not a few stills.

   by David (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
» I agree Great Britain stood alone

Whatever, your comments are true as long as you leave out Great Britain, they fought to the death and beat over wealming odds whereas the rest of Europe crumbled..

   by Apu (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » Um

Are you all taking about World War 1 or 2?

   Re: werty (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » WW2

Well I would guess as they mention Spitfire etc it was WW2, and I agree if Great Britain would of fallen so would the rest of the world particularly the scumbags countrys who like to slag off Great Britain but sponge off them

I suppose that you are implying America. Antartica wouldnt have fallen.

i dont see what the big deal is. if this is offered in the ps store for free, i dont see why we cant just do what we've always done; make a new account for that country and download it. i've been doing that for a while with the japanese demos, and if this is going to be exclusive to uk or w/e, i dont see why we cant do the same.

"Damage mechanics will also affect not only how your car looks, but how it performs every time you take a hit."

does this finally mean that gt has been given the right to add damage to the vehicles? i've heard otherwise.
