ZGT4Kazunori Yamauchi spoke to Weekly Famitsu about the next Gran Turismo game. The next GT game will officially be called Gran Turismo HD, and will appear exclusively on the PS3. Unfortunately, however, this is no GT5. The game will be a port of the original ps2">PS2 game 'Gran Turismo 4'. Updated graphics and play control will be the main features of the game, as well as high definition display. Perhaps the new game will somehow incorporate the PS3 controller in some way?

Yamauchi also mentioned that the idea for the game actually came from the Photo Mode in GT4, which allowed players to take high-resolution stills. "I thought it would be incredible to see these stills animated in real time" he said.

However, for those expecting a new GT at PS3 launch, sorry. The best you can get is a port of one you've already got. A new GT game can be expected though, so don't worry too much. For now, you can look at the latest batch of the game's screenshots.

 » This sucks

I didn't think that GTHD was a game, I thought it was a tech demo. I hope that they could put new features like online play, new cars and tracks. I don't think anyone was expecting a new GT at launch anyways because Yamauchi said to expect GT5 in 2007. Guess I'm going to have to wait.

» Reason to get the PS3

GT4 has always been a favorite game of mine because of the fact that its realistic. When you learn to drift in the game the fun factor just gets bigger. Then when u go online with Xlink, playong online is great.

This game is all about skill. All other racing games on other consoles are not even close to the realism in GT4. This game is definitly going to be one of my first PS3 games if its out on launch. Being able to finally see the cars the way they were originaly modeled would be some great eye candy.

No other racing game has as many cars and tracks and never will. GT series is the best of the realistic racing games and will probably never lose its position as long as other developers spend less time on the game itself and more on the polishing.

 » lol.

in hd on ps2? you can't play ps2 in hd... it only outputs pal/ntsc resolutions... you can put that on your hd tv, but that makes no difference.
anyway, for those who didn't buy gt4 this isn't such bad news... i mean how do they update the games anyway, isn't it just a graphics touch up and some more cars?

Acutally there was only two games on the PS2 that could go into a HD resolution, Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist Trophy. They were conpatable in 480p and 1080i.

» ps2 CANT run HD res

it can output HD yes, BUT it can only output the ps2 resolution "fitted" to be HD, I mean, it can be plugged on an HD tv but it's not HD, the ps2 cannot render high definition. And an adapter for HD is NOT a cpu change, lol, I suppose some people really don't know a lot in technologies. Anyway there's a time to learn, I suppose nobody had his/her knowledge the day he/she was born.

anyway, it's not for me, because I already finished GTA4 in a LOT of hours... and I'm not enough fan to play the same games with a new and beatifull engine, I suppose I understand the fans tough, because I'd play a remake of FF7 anytime =D

why do these people feel compelled to copy paste their damned posts into every article? look for gg's little spiel on ps3 vs 360... god, and i actually replied to the first one i read..

» GG is an idiot or just a Sony Fanboy

First thing your prices are all wrong on the systems and Xbox live. I wish people would stop complaining about paying for live. It is $50 a year. That comes to under $4.50 a month. That is nothing compared to playing for a single MMO game and Live can support more than 8 players. Your post is just bashing the 360. Both systems are great and it will really come down to the games that you want to play. I want my 5 minutes of wasted time back for reading GG's post............

 » Might get it.

Well, I didn't bother getting GT4 and stuck with GT3... so GTHD is looking good to me.
Maybe the extra feature will be online play using Sonys new network?

   by dave (Unregistered) - 2006-08-27
 » the same?

hay look everybody halo 3 is no different than halo 2. all halo 3 has is some updated graphics and some new guns but its all the same. hmmmm sounds funny becase thats the same thing they are saying about gt5. I think that more cars on the track at once is a big enough difference. gt5 will feature bikes, great hd graphics, and online play. that is a big difference. so if gt5 is gt4 than halo 3 is halo2.

» #17 - What are you talking about?

GT-HD is not GT5, it's just GT4 ported to the PS3 with a few enhancements here and there. GT5 is a different game and will arrive after GT-HD.

Therefore NO-ONE here said GT5 is the same as GT4.

Try reading a bit slower next time. :|

This shouldn't come as a surprise. GTHD is a racing game and you shouldn't expect much from it expect for updated graphics and hopefully it will utilize the motion sensing technology in some ways.

 » perhaps...

since we're getting an updated version of gt4... that they'll be able to include the multiplayer this time? I know that'll sell a ton of copies right there, if multiplayer is included.

   by TheProfessor - 2006-08-27
» Aren't they putting motorcycles too

Also online play is really the only thing GT is missing. I would much rather it be GT5 but these guys take so long with their games that having gt4 in HD early is as good as it's going to get.

The graphics do look amazing though, however some of the background textures look like crap compared to some of blockbuster next gen titles.

» this version will mostlikely have online

the devs already release GT4 online betas to test their online part of GT.so that means that they will impliment that system to the ps3 game with the new sony online service!this is great...playing online with 10+ others on HD!!!

WOOT!!!

by mr hopkins (Unregistered) - 2006-08-28
 » really.

I expect 16 to 24 cars on track, online play, 1000 to 1500 cars with an improved physics system and motion sensitive controller control.

Im betting if it was Kaz choice with his strive for perfection he would not be releasing something half baked just to compete with the competitors product (Forza). Its the higher ups decision. It could backfire if the graphics look a lot less than Forza's. Im expecting with online play and more cars on traks with some bikes and few added features fans will....

 » HAha

Lets get some things straight, gt4 in 1080i looked like crap... IThe game looked terrible upscanned to 1080i because there was no additional detail to be seen.

GTHD just a port of GT4? ahahhahaha thats hilarious. "The next Generation doesnt start until sony launches their Ps3".... " along with 4 year old games to play"

hahahahaa

GT-HD is a stop gap game until GT5, nothing wrong with that given a few enhancements here and there and online play (online play was taken out of GT4 because it required a 1Mb connection as a minimum. It was a last minute decision).

So as long as it's sold at a price to reflect the fact that it's really GT4 for the PS3, then I think it's good idea.

 » Confused

What I'm a little confused, wasn't there a game called "Vision Grand Turismo", so where did "Grand Turismo HD" came from? are there 2 games or something? is Grand Turismo HD GT4 and Vision Grand Turismo GT5?

   by boof (Unregistered) - 2006-08-28

The PS2 absolutely does HD, and no not 480i upconverted. Just like the XBOX 1 does true HD for certain games.

If GT still doesnt do damage then WTF.

 » GT

I was hoping they would do a version of GT4 with online, more cars on track, and HD. If they manage to get that out at launch, I'm going to be incredibly excited about it.

I mean, sure I would have loved a full-on GT5 even more, but I know that won't happen until, what, 2008 at the earliest? You know their track-record - they surely take their time!

There are, by the way, a number of PS2 games that support, for instance, 480p. Tekken is one, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and yes, GT4 is one too. I think GT4 is the only one though that supports 1080i, but that's only for the NTSC versions - the PAL version does not support any progressive modes. That's ok though, because to compensate the PAL version is the smoothest version out there on SD TVs, and for GT4 that was much more important to me. ;)

If they manage to release an online GT4 in 1080p, that is surely going to help them make sure that GT5 is going to be even better. I'm all for them releasing more versions in that respect, as 'exercise'. ;)

Hopefully they learn from PGR3 in terms of online features though, as that game sets the standard in that respect. But GT4 sets the standard for the feel of a car, I just love driving a car in GT4. If that stays in tact, I'll be happy already ... :) And the Driving Force Pro wheel by the way is really cheap these days! Highly recommended, get one while you still can ... !

 » GT HD

I remember when they showed the trailer at E3 for this game and I saw motorcycles on the select screen. That would be a sweet addition to game. I didn't pick up GT4, but do own the japanese demo. I don't mind this HD version at all. If the bikes are in there, its like two game for the price of...two games? Oh well, if you don't own GT4 or Tourist Trophy it is a sweet deal. Even better if there is online play.
