Famitsu's interview with Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Gran Turismo: HD now comes in two versions: the Classic and the Premium. The GT: HD Classic version will be the online-focused entrant into the GT-series, while the Premium version will be the prologue to the PS3's eventual Gran Turismo 5.

The GT: HD Premium version will ship with two courses and 30 cars, with an additional 30 cars and an additional two courses online at a later date.

The Classic will ship with no cars -- instead, you would buy them on microtransaction basis. Players would start their careers with no cars or courses. Players need to buy them on prices that are estimated around ¥50 to 100 (around $ 0.43 to 0.85) for cars and ¥200 to 500 ($ 0.71 to 0.26) for courses. That means if there are about 750 cars and 50 tracks that one can buy for the Classic version, the player ends up spending between $ 426.50 and $ 975 for the complete copy. Now, of course, whatever Sony decides to charge for the menus isn't included in the math.

If you think this is Sony going overboard, you're not alone. A lot of folks are hoping for this game to be a full-priced title that includes a built-in download system allowing users to download cars and tracks equal to the number of the game's retail price. But this remains a question as Sony hasn't yet come up with the details. We'll keep you posted on what they've got to say.

is sony really going crazy? i rather buy a 360 oor a wii than buying a idiotic ps3

 » no1, no2 and especially no.3

why dont you just wait til Sony actually come out and tell us whats going on. I highly doubt that anyone would pay $900 for a complete game, and i think the developers (thats the developers, not Sony as everyone seems to blame for everything developers do) should know that nobody in their right mind would pay so much. Just wait and see to whats said at TGS before coming out with comments like retard no.3 "rather buy a 360 or a Wii than buying an idiotic PS3".

Good comment. This is not sony's scam. It's the developers. But who would pay that much?Nobody.
This is Bu**Sh**.I love Gran Turismo.I have the whole collection of them since PSone.
Say isn"t so...

exactly, cheers Lucky Boy. Sony gets alot of flack lately for things which hasnt been made or decided by them, but by the developers. Im suprised alot of other people havent noticed this.
I just think the articles misleading, i think you will get a full version of the game from day1, BUT like with xbox live marketplace, you can download individual cars and individual courses if you wanted. Thats what i think it would mean anyway

just read that article, and its alot less twisted than what QJ make it out to be. Indeed it is just like prologue, so i highly doubt anybody would download 700 cars plus, id just get 10 of my faves and play it til the true gt5 comes about

 » Thats F_Cked!

I can see the benefit of getting extra downloadable content but I dont wanna buy a shell of a game and then spend money for cars so I can actually play it.

 » Its an interesting idea

Whether it will be with money and/or gaming points for new cars and tracks, im not sure. But I think i like the idea, it will cut down on dev time for the main part of the game, ie. less delays. And with so many cars and tracks available, why not just pick and choose what cars you want to drive, and what tracks you want. It makes your game unique and will be talored to your wants. Plus imagine having people over and playing multi-player, each person puts up 5-10 dollars and have a small tourny. You could complete the set easy with money in your pocket if you win. WIth 5 people, if they spend 1 a peice on a track and /or car then the winner still comes out 20-45 dollars after the expenses. I just hope that these are transferable some when going over to your friends house.

 » shock value, HIGH!

i see alot of "well its the devs".. true .. but they gotta recoupe the ungodly amount of time it took to develop on a hard to develop for system.. Is it right?, hell no, and it looks to me that sonys demise will be by the hands of the developers, and the ridiculous nature of sony in general.

» I Like GT But Thats...

insane!!! I WILL NOT pay that much to get a full game. I would rather buy something else. I just hope that they don't go by this method. I mean really that will be a turn off to most gamers and Polyphony will not sell as many. Only if they made the game for free and have online play where you can purchase cars and tracks then maybe, but only if you could fully customize your cars then it might be worth it. As long as I don't have to buy each individual part............. DOH!!!

 » Well

That's free online for you.

But seriously lets just wait for the game to come out or at least some offical word. Lets not read into this propoganda too much now

» You people are getting dumber by the miniute...

There is no way they will do this in the United States, first of all, it will never sell. They know that, alot of times the people that develope games talk alot of vaporware. I think what the dude was really saying is that you can buy the full game for retail, which will be the same price of a 360 game, or download the demo and upgrade it the way you want, and ten bucks that the demo will be on the hard drive, instead of buying the game you pay for what you want. They do this kind of marketing in China for many games. I never cared for every car, I always got all the German cars and usually quit. So it's nothing new......

» wait till the games comes out!

you guys jump into conclusion already. just wait for the game to come out first. it's hard to say things when you don't even know what cars, bikes, courses they are going to include or not.

and i don't believe that they will just give you 30 cars and paying the game for $50 or $60? hell no! i don't believe in all the news that comes out against ps3. i'll just wait for the finish product then before believing if this article is true or false.

It's not a rumor. It was in Famitsu. Which is a reliable pretty much anti-Microsoft magazine.

» When You think about it, They have to make money.

Now you can just get the tracks and cars that you want. C'mon how many cars in the GT games that have 400+ cars go untouched by the average player.

They had two choices:
1. Have us pay for online services up front and get a little bit of "free" content and pay money for points to get the content.

2. Offer free online services and have us pay money for content. (This way is better because they can offer you more at lower prices because the whole thing is supported buy content sales and somebody is going to buy something. (iTunes is like this.))

What if we had to buy the game, pay for online, then buy points, and then get the cars and tracks we want. (TD:U is like this kind of and i believe Forza 2 will be like this.)

 » Yeah...

Anyone aware you don't need to spend that much? Just put $12 into it and it will give you about two courses and 21 cars assumming they average out to 50 cents a piece. Its not 1000 bucks or nothing. Why do you need upwards of 20 cars anyway? I know a lot of people who can do with less on the previous titles. Why make this so big? Assuming that this is the entire truth, its still not that bad. Still, this has caused quite a stir, and they say any publicity is good publicity... so maybe Sony is smarter than you jump-to-conclusion-type fools make them out to be. Seriously.

 » GT4

@ 10, u have a good point, does any1 remember the uselessness of A-spec and B-spec points u got u in GT4, perhaps they should do it so we have to obtain a certain amoount of them points to get the car i.e. 1000 for a skyline, 10,000 for a GT40 etc coz then tht would mean we wouldnt have to shell out loads of hard earned real cash for a game tht u can have it all then and there in its ps2 version
