GT HD

Polyphony digital and Sony changed their minds about Gran Turismo HD. The planned boxed version of the game has gone out the window, instead they are set to release a GT demo on Japan's PlayStation Store for a limited time. This development was announced by designer, Kazunori Yamauchi. Call it bad luck, call it the end of the game's supremacy, heck, call it whatever you want!

Anyhow, the free Gran Turismo HD Concept will be available on December 24. Currently, it would be a Japan-only release, but then again, we can never tell. The demo will have 10 cars and two layouts of a single track. Polyphony now plans on shelling all its resources to the development of Gran Turismo 5 which is set to come out on 2008. We could only hope that they are making the right decision on this one, they badly need a winning break.

And nextweeks news.... GT Mobile for PSP will be also be a tech demo to show all developers what the psp can do with a budget of $50 million minus any garantee that you will see a reurnable profit.

these must be some very expensive demos to give free. I have a feeling PS3 really cant handle anything better then GTHD (which would have come ut in 2008 anyway) so they scraped calling it that and have decided to rebrand it as GT5. Now im not a fanboy, but i love my PS3, and i bought it for GT same as i bought the PSP for GT Mobile. But it looks like sony is pumping more money into polyphony Digital without seeing any results from the team which if rumours suggest, are wasting 75% of the budget on testing the real cars to "get a better feel of the car thus making a more realistic game", that plus booze and hookers.

Boy am i angry.

Maybe it was a mistranslation?
I'm a 360 fanboy but I was actually looking forward to trying out this game. (Forza 2 as well) Both look equally good.

Ok, the complaints about having to pay per car/per track were quite valid. But now they are giving it away as a set of free demos, and even more complaining??

Quit whining you *****ing pussies, its free and its still nothing more than what you would have paid 5-10 dollars retail - ONLY YOU'RE GETTING IT FOR FREE.

Oh, let me guess, all of you were actually the few who were willing to pay 1000 bucks for a video game? This is by far a much better direction for Sony to take with the game, and this is the way it should have been in the beginning.

I would rather have a polished game 2 years from now, than pay roughly 16 times the amount for a half assed demo. The rest of us are not rich to where we can just throw that kind of money down - ridiculous!

So kudos to Sony and Poly for getting that (which they actually should have, before they even announced GTHD)!

Look at it this way. GTHD = GT4 in HD. At least we know we will get a new game. And asides from that, who really thought that we would see a GT game on 2007? I mean GT for the PSPS was supposed to come on 2005 and we are still waiting for it.

 » Not shocked

They keep dangling the gran tourismo carrot in front of dedicated gamers and then yanking it after people buy the system. I knew I'd have to wait for the psp version, but at this point I don't even care anymore. As for the ps3 version, does anyone actually trust that 2008 release at this point? This crap has gotten old.

Although I am exicted for the Demo, I believe that this "demo" and changing it to GT 5 is just an excuse to delay the game lol

SWEET a free game with 1 TRACK, how cool is that.. NOT!, and it only took them 3 years to make it!, awesome!

Like others have said, Sony has been using the GT carrot to long. The way they manipulated users into PSP sales, by right on the box showing a picture of GT, then recently stating, when were done with the PS3 version well get back to the PSP version. Well, with the recent change in events, that basically says, "maybe after 2008 we will make a PSP version".. Who are they kidding. Sony just plain sucks, I'm sorry, but they just really do.

I personally play more Sony video game systems than any other, but I am perfectly fine with Nintendo or Microsoft consoles as long as they have good games. I can honestly tell you that I used to be a Sony fanboy, but now I see that they all need to grow up. Buy great games and features; don't buy a label. Gagamboy, please leave your 360 fanboy comments off of this PS3 site unless they are intellegent and have a basis on fact. I say the same to Nintendo and Sony fanboys. Good day.

I do also want to add that I have firm plans to buy both the PS3 and the Wii, and if I have some extra cash I'll buy a 360, too.

   Re: 2k1yellows2k - 2006-12-02
 » I don't get it...

Why would 360 fanboys read up on PS3 sites just to bash Sony in posts?

I have almost every major system that has come out, including the 360 and PS3. I like them both and do not bash anybody, except for Nintendo for not upping the graffics on the Wii. Seem too GameCube-ish to me. I just like technology and games, so I buy them all.
   by Vietone - 2006-12-01
 » Wow, im disappointed now

The game was shaping up and looking really good since the last gameplay demo at the TGS.

It took them years to develop GT4 and rightly so, it was an amazingly realistic game and graphics were just great for the PS2.

This is a shock as GTHD was one of the games I was highly anticipating. I guess they realized it was more worth it to use all their resources for GT5.

Hopefully the JP demo works on US consoles as well. I still would like to see what they are giving away for free.

   Re: Demon Slayer - 2006-12-01
 » It should work.

I signed up for a Japanese account by changing my language to Japanese and just randomly entering all the information after username and password. So now I can just log into that for the Japanese Playstation Store. I got the Japan-only Ridge Racer 7 demo and it works fine.

   Re: 2k1yellows2k - 2006-12-02
 » Any truth to this?

Demon Slayer, is this true?

And if GTHD is a Japan-only demo, surely someone will figure out a way for us Americans to play it.

I've often wondered if you can remove the PS3's hdd and connect it to a pc or laptop and copy information off of it. Oh, and I need a driver that allows you to use Sony's Memory Card adaptor on XP. Similar to GameShark's SharkPort a few years back. I wanna back up my PS1 + PS2 saves on my PC.

it is pretty clear that PD has been working on gt5. you think it took them a year to make a single track demo? just because you cant see what they are doing behind the scene doesnt mean they are not doing anything. its pretty clear that they used gthd to find out what they can do with the next gt5.

really just because you havnet seen any shots , or any details of gt5 does not mean they havent been working on it. You accually think they would spend all this time on a demo , come on ppl use some common sense.

 » Vaguely Familiar Scenario

If i remember correctly, Polyphony pulled a similar stunt with Gran Turismo 3. For a while leading up to the PS2's launch, PD was working on GT2000, which was just a polished up version of Gran Turismo 2. After a while, they scrapped that version and pooled all thier efforts into a new game, Gran Turismo 3, which turned out awesome. You would think they would have learned thier lesson about this sort of thing....

Either way, im a big fan of the series and cant wait to see Polyphony's latest effort.

i *****lNG knew it ...i bought a psp and the same thing was done.... lies lies and more lies to lure consumers . i bet your ass they knew this before the ps3 came out but rather not say. so they dont make GTmobile and because they are making GTHD for the ps3 were infact they arent making neither. SO WHAT THE ***** ARE THEY MAKING THEN. HOW MANY PPL WORK IN POLIPHONY, 6? 4? 1 boss 4 managers and 1 programer?oh i see so they are just gonna half fast consumers with a polished version of GT4 for the ps3 and since that is so difficult to make everyone who has a PSP has to wait delay after delay after delay. thats some dumb ***** ...thanks sony....thanks PD for throwing consumer trust out the window.

ps PD MAKE SURE THOSE LOADING TIMES ARE LOWER I WANNA PLAY THE GAME , LOADING TIMES KILL EXCITEMENT!

Nintendo dangles the Twilight Princess carrot in front of their dedicated Gamecube fans, then instead, release it on their new system, which costs $250 and is little more than a suped up Gamecube, and you still have to pay $50 for the Zelda game. those that haven't gotten a Wii have to wait until December. but that's all good because it's *Nintendo* (personally, i've been waiting 2 years for Twilight Princess, and even played it at E3 2005, back when it was supposed to be released fall 2005. now it's out, but i have no interest in buying a Wii just for that game, and i'm not getting it for my Gamecube, especially since i traded it in three weeks ago. sadly, Nintendo lost a longtime fan in me, and i've been playing their consoles since 1985).

Sony decides to give GTHD away for *FREE* and they're still considered evil. i don't understand it. Sony cannot win, period. it's too fun and trendy to bash them. while they are worthy of bashing in some regards, they aren't worthy of bashing in the things that they actually do *right* (such as releasing a game they were going to originally nickel and dime you to death for *FREE* now. how is that a bad thing?). really now people, the Sony hate needs to go away. seriously. hell, the console hate in general needs to go away. it's tiresome.

   Re: Lurker (Unregistered) - 2006-12-01
 » Well said

Well i cant comment on your first paragraph, but your second hit the nail on the head. I have been very disapointed with Sony and there PS3, and even more disapointed when the GTHD nickle and dime tactics were going to be used. But now we are getting it for free and people still complain. FFS, your getting the same game free that you would have had to pay for. (They said GTHD would have minimal tracks and not many cars). Man, even our resident fanboy vietone is disaponted. Really dont understand you people.

"Brilliant! Aren't Sony great to us! And Mr Hirai please can we bend over and drop our trousers?"

Some keywords here: "GT demo on Japan's PlayStation Store for a limited time." If your not from japan, I believe you get jack squat. I mean it's nice to be happy for others (Japanese), but not for U.S. which is getting screwed over. Here is the thing, I doubt that they'll even release the demo if the actual game will come out near 2008. The hype will be gone by them and people might end up not buying the game at all. To some extent this is what happened to Halo 3. When the game gets overhyped, it will naturally decline very fast at some point in time. I was really hyped about Halo 3, but when they show you 4 screens shots every month and nothing else, you start to second guess you interest in the game. Same I think is happening to the Grand Turismo.
