GTA IV - Image 1Rockstar Games has released a new patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 (the game is also available on the Xbox 360) which fixes a few issues that users have been complaining about including the freezing problems and multiplayer woes.

With regards to the multiplayer problem, Rockstar said that this 18 MB update "prevents GameSpy's servers from being overloaded". This in turn, should theoretically reduce "the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up."

It's nice to see that Rockstar has come up with a solution for the problems that have been plaguing the game. Installing the patch is easy since your system will prompt you to install it the next time you start up the game (assuming your PS3 is connected to the internet).

At last. Good to see Rockstar isnt letting the fans down.
and i guess this kinda gives the ps3 a point against the 360

» Ummm how is that the PS3 version is full of bugs a good thing

Have you actually thought what you're typing here, the 360 version is not having any reported problems. (Other then probably the usual stuff of people's 360's dying from RROD).

Re: yxxxx - 5 days ago
 » "

Oh the irony.
there have been reports of problems with the xbox version as well you know.

Atleast some people can now get online. mine works fine from the patch.
The 360 does have freezing errors too btw.

Re: sonofken - 4 days ago
 » online mode

this patch is utterly useless for people who play online, i installed the patch and my ps3 froze after about 30 mins, and it's prettu ***** anyway.
i feel a trade coming on and back to cod4.

Eh, it should have been working when I bought it. Not to say these things don't happen, but a 100 million dollar project shouldn't have such a big problem.

 » ah shuddup

The game is great and besides some freezing issues with some models of systems, its works fine. So go away.

 » Nope

Doesn't fix any multiplayer issues as far as I can see. Still getting connection problems, as are numerous others. Haven't heard any positive feedback from this update.

The only difference I can see is that...

***SPOILER****

Kate doesn't call you to go out after the game is complete anymore. Which is good cause I was tired of dragging her dead corpse around to bars and clubs.

Re: NarooN - 5 days ago
 » well...

If you can't connect, then that's a problem with YOUR connection. I've been all over the official PS.com forums and talking to people; the only problems they have were freezing. I never froze on my 80gb but I am glad that my friends can now play without freezing.

Re: andyc - 5 days ago
 » Wrong

MY connection is fine. I can get into games on the rare occassion, but the majority of the time I'm kicked straight away. I can play every other game online no problem.

Its on R* + Sony's side, not mine.

Re: andyc - 5 days ago
 » One more thing...

A correction to my first post, it doesn't fix that kate glitch. Just got a call form her there.

Re: Shatterdome - 5 days ago
 » uhhh Naroon...

If there were no multiplayer issues, why would Sony release a patch that mainly deals with multiplayer issues and gamespy's server ?

duh...

Also a connection error does not mean it's your local connection, actually, most of the time it means that a server is too busy and you cannot connect to it.....IE. Free gamespy servers that are a POS....

Re: NarooN - 5 days ago
 » re: andyc and Shatterdome

The only problems I had connecting to online was when the game was first released, after a few days, everyone could connect fine and only the freezing issue remained.

And if you still can't connect, then it's definitely your connection. The possibility that you can connect to other games is irrelevant, as GTA4 connects to Gamespy right when the game launches.

Shatterdome: When did I say there were NO issues? Before you try to correct someone, at least make sense.

Re: andyc - 5 days ago
 » oh lordy...

Its not my connection. As I stated, I can connect to a few games on the odd occassion. Free Mode, Cops N Crooks, GTA Rae, Deathmatch etc. As Shatterdome said, its the POS servers. They can't handle the traffic. This little patch is supposed to handle connections better so the servers don't melt constantly.

However, it doesn't work for sh*t.

 » REALLY!!!!

So this patch did NOTHING for me!!!!! I still freeze and half the time it wont connect to the multi player. Im getting really really annoyed with rockstar.
I can play the game for 10 to 15 min before I get a random crash and I have to completely turn the power of by the switch in the back.
PATCH DOESNT HELP ME ONE BIT!!!!
The End

 » lol

if u nooblets still have freezing problems, stop *****ing stop crying and delete the hdd file and see if that dont help the freezing, i had the same problem till i deleted it. just a thought for the cry babies.

   Re: PS2GT - 5 days ago
 » ....

also delete the internet cache, i did that just before deleting the hdd file, had internet connection and started the game and hasnt froze once just my ps3 gets too hot after a few hors of non stop play but oh well cuz it cools back down after a few minutes

 » game still freeze's

my wife and i have gone over ever rockstar and player advised workaround for the freezing we had high hopes for this patch as our emotion chip ps3 is having a lot of freezing issues with gta4 after downloading the patch things seemed to run decent until a hour or so into playing it froze as it would previously playing for a hour or so has been about the max for us before seeing a freeze except for 1 night last week we got to play for 2 hours crash free but at the same time im starting to regret my purchase and considering returning the game to the store honestly i expected a lot more from rockstar than a patch adressing netplay as it was labeled in a previous post here on qj rather than fixing the issues that is keeping people from enjoying the 1 player story which is why we all buy gta games in the first place..

Re: andyc - 5 days ago
 » ...

Well for what its worth, this patch doesn't seem to fix any of the issues that people are raging over.
   by Sw3RvE - 5 days ago
 » ....

i dont see any difference. i dont care about the game freezing. i care about my rank getting reset 5 times. i should be a level 4 right now!! i think they should have patched it to unlock all of the clothes UNTIL they fix this issue. then when they fix the rank loss problem. they can reset everyones rank.

by sickofitall - 5 days ago
» this patch worked for me

I used to have to disable the internet just to get the game to load completely. After this patch I can connect to the internet and load this game.

 » YES!

I wanted this really bad (for the internet multiplayer). I'll download this and try it now, cya online guys! (PSN: senjutsu_dav)

 » gamespy

I have to say when i herd that gamespy was responsible for the online network. i wasn't surprised that there were problems.

I'm a pc and a console gamer and know that when a game uses gamespy there is bound to be problems somewhere.

Sounds to me like there are more people playing online than expected. Why else would the servers get overloaded?

   by jackstraw419 - 5 days ago
 » This is garbage

Still having online issues!!!!!
I wish the online was working properly. I had decent luck 2 nights ago and was able to play cops and crooks 3 on 3 but I had the ethernet cord directly connected to my PS3. I have yet to play an 8 on 8 match. MY 360 broke after I Sent it in for 3 repairs so I bought the PS3 thinking there would be no problems with it. Right now I wish I still had the 360 so I could at least play this game online. Don't get me wrong the single player is awesome but I'm an online gamer and the online is 10x as fun as the single player in my opinion

 » omg you don't understand

this patch only fix freezes

this patch doesn't fix freezes on 60GB consoles. (it will be fixed with the new firmware)

this patch doesn't fix connection problem to gamespy servers.

this patch only fix freezes due to connections problems, now if you have connection problems the game doesn't stutter/freez.

stop.

Re: Morlander - 4 days ago
» where do you get this info

where does this info come from misthero ? please if you have details share them i have a 60 gb launch console and it freeze's enough to not want to play it till its fixed

Re: misthero - 4 days ago
» this is the link at the info

http://www.multiplayer.it/notizia.php?id+55617+page+2

is italian, it says Take-Two stated that there are two kind of issues:

the first due to the network, the game try to contact servers but if anything go wrong the game start to stutter/freeze.
they will fix this with a patch (this patch)

the second is an incompatibility with 60gb launch ps3, this will be fixed with the help of Sony in the next firmware.

Re: misthero - 4 days ago
» omg qj changed the link

after multiplayer.it/ paste: notizia.php?id+55617

to make the link work.

btw in the patch release note it says: "the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up."
so I think it's obvious it fix only those stutter and lock ups caused by the server overload or anything, and it doesn't fix connection problems if you have any.
