Responding to requests, GameTrailers made a comparison video of component output versus HDMI output using Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The video cycles between split screen to single screen comparisons between the formats.

While this doesn't mean the comparison video can speak for every other high-def game out there, at the least those who played Uncharted without the benefit of HDTV will know what they missed out on.

Some comments from the video's page remark that there's very little difference between the two, but then you can judge for yourselves:

Ah, another "A" typical baised PS3 comparison from Gametrailers whom seem to be the only people ( I know of that is ) who always make's ( untrustworthy ) comparisons of multiplatform games.

Now to the article at hand, I'm not sure if everyone else feels the same as do I but if I was to want yet another **** comparison it would'nt involve "component vs HDMI". It would be "RGB Limited vs RGB Full" on a game like Assassin's Creed or some other multiplatform title that gametrailers have compared in the past.

 » HDMI IS VITAL!

This vid really does the HDMI no justice. While you can notice the small differences here, it really doesnt compare to the difference you would notice on a sick tv. My friend just got a new tv and only managed to get the cable after a couple weeks, when he plugged it in i couldnt believe the difference. HUGE. why buy the tv and not the cable!?

The only difference I've noticed is that component has more of a bluish hue to it. In fact depending on the length of your HDMI/Component cable, component can be better.

GT only doing this to cover their own ass, add a big thick bar in the middle to blur the difference between the 2, so that makes them look like they have dont nothing wrong in the first place. Ppl only ask them to use HDMI PLUS RGB Full range set to Full. Many ppl have already dont that on the net, even with Camera Recorder you can cleary see the difference between the 2.

» Learn what RGB Full does before claiming to be the end all fix to lifes problems

Okay, since no one knows what RGB full is... It essentially creates crushed blacks. It doesnt enhance the image at all. It makes up for your TV's inability to display black, let alone BTB. RGB Full is for PC moniters which are expecting black to be at 0 whereas TV's expect black to be at 16. Hence the ability for TV's to pass what is known as "Blacker-than-black", BTB for short. Its seen as a desirable ability. When you set the PS3 to RBG Full you move black from 16 to 0. But 0-15 were originally reserved for BTB not Black in TV's. Hence the crushing of blacks and the impression of better image due to higher contrast ratio. Get a TV that doesn't suck at showing black and set it up properly.

And the picture having more black and color helps it look better. Thats why when they compared assassin's creed to the 360 version the ps3 version looked way brighter (and with half the other comparisons done by gametralers.com). It does fix all the problems if you have a TV that supports it.

But its annoying hearing some fanboy saying "oh the graphics suk (because its brighter)", when you can actually fix it and put RBG to full. GT needs to learn how to do comparisons.

Everyone try out that video and look at the difference.

 » Its not RBG Full

People should be adjusting their TV's not the PS3's output. Its as simple as testing which setting passes BTB. But no one really cares at all so this is a nice quick fix for those who don't know any better.

   Re: Daz_Genetic - 2008-01-20
 » RGB Full

With a correctly set up TV, there shouldn't be any difference in the contrast between one with RGB Full on or off. The only thing that should be affected is the granularity (amount of shades between fully black and fully white)

Anyone claiming that RGB Full makes their image more contrasty, is not correctly adjusting their television.

It all depends on your set. Whether it handles RGB like a TV or a monitor.

That link doesnt work but this one does

its about 360 ps3 comparisons wtf are they comparing screens between a dev that knows exactly what there doing.

Is the video HD? if not then there is no point what so ever. You can't show the differences of two kinds of HD signal in a crap flash video.

Also, I read some comments from above about the RGB full, and found it in my PS3 and... wow, I didn't know what I was missing! Everything looks so much better, it's awesome.

Nice way of trying to cover their asses, gametrailers...

The point was the difference between:
component -rgb limited, not super white- Versus HDMI -rgb full, super white-

Trying to hush it up and make it appear that componement and HDMI are the same, *****ers. Just set RGB to full and SUPER WHITE to on, fools...

on the component version. i could see that just from other side by sides they have done in the past with games I already own.
