Right up ther with Samus Aran and Cate Archer...Allow this writer to turn fan-boy for a moment. Why must we wait more! Screw Freeman. We want Alyx Vance and her "dog!" Here's the sad news folks: Valve's new instalment of Freeman's Alyx Vance's game is now due summer 2007. Fan-boy mode off.

CVG reports that Valve's Doug Lombardi has announced that Half-Life 2: Episode Two's release has been reset from Q1 2007 to summer 2007. Lombardi says that Valve is "now targeting summer 2007" for a release. This obviously affects Team Fortress 2 and Portal, which all form the Episode Two package.

Instead of something to welcome the new year, we now have something for the summer. Oh well. They just better use the time to polish those games up.

HL2 Episode 2 was originally expected to hit at the end of 2006, with Valve confirming back in August it had changed its mind and was instead gunning for Q1 2007, maybe February. No official reason has been given yet as to the reason for the release slip, but we're all hoping it's a good one.

 » Thanks Sony

EA's difficulties porting the Source Engine to the PS3 has caused this delay. Awesome eh.
They finished the 360 port a month ago, and Portal has been finished for quite some time. I doubt Team Fortress 2 is late.

» Thanks sony? how about thanking EA themselve for failing.

Think about it, whose fault is it that they are umfamiliar to developing a ps3 since dev kit wasn't distributed until months before ps3 launch. They had experience with 360 coding for over a year, I mean look at all those EA games on 360.

You really believe what you are saying there? Surely Valve will happily delay their work for core target PC and the "finished a month ago" 360 version just to wait for EA to port the game to PS3? You need a reality check badly - Sony also did not sink the titanic...

 » Target no longer.

Valve are getting as bad as EA in this case. Its all about money now and if they cant get every game out at the same time they don't believe they will be able to capture every market.
The truth is they haven't had enough time with the PS3 and giving the task to EA was a bad idea. If you look at the Source SDK you can see for yourself how much has been changed in the code for the 360. A real nasty task.
I don't believe for one second that they only wish to full fill the wishes of the PC market, and that would be to screw the consoles and give us the game already.

» Easy, give us preload and preorder feature from steam.

remember when you preorder hl2 on steam and you can play cs:source right away while you wait half a year for hl2 to be release and then another half a year for dod:source(for those who brought the silver or gold package). well I think they should do that for portal and/or team fortress 2 at least.

   Re: Tom (Unregistered) - 2006-11-10
» oh I just remember, if they do the preload thing, EA will be piss huh?

I remember the Valve and Vivendi incident just now, so I guess there will not be early pay and play privileges.

I hope if their going to delay it that long that they can at least include Counter-Strike Source in the package.

 » It's not Sony's or EA's Fault

It's Valve's fault and it's nothing new. HEll they took 6 years to make HL2 in the first place and have yet to release a game (or addon) which wasn't set back numerous times. The company just really sucks at guessing release dates for their games.

 » Totally Valve

Valve makes wonderful games, but everyone knows those guys can't hit a deadline worth a damn.

In this case, we are all pretty sure the only game that could be unfinished is TF2. They give us many hints in the steam news posts.
Portal is finished for sure, has been for several months. Episode 2 could still be getting some tweaks worked out, but it looks like that is pretty much done.
Only other thing that could be delaying is the coding department working on the quad core implementation. Probably only the seniors actually working on that, Jay, Yahn, or Ken.
