Heavenly Sword doesn't only promise to deliver on stunning visual effects but on player's audio experience as well. The game will be featuring over 10GB of audio to truly enhance that theatrical experience the developers are going for. For me, sound is very ‘immediate’ to the player. Music has a well-established cultural language; sound is much less clearly delineated – but you can get straight to someone’s emotional responses with it – there’s little time for the brain to analyse. Sound is key in making this awesome weapon – the Heavenly Sword – come to life so you can sense its brooding power and almost hear it feeding off each kill. |

Loads of dialog, yay!
.. How *****ing boring. Why not pick up halo3? OH YOU CANT BECAUSE ITS XBOX EXCLUSIVE. As well as blue dragon and lost odyssey. HAR HAR SONY.
what about the MGS series? That had way more dialog than anything. *****in N00b.
don't even respond to this loser, he just cant grasp what 50 gigabytes of storage means.
Don't feed the troll
Sony has more storage in their B-Ray discs meaning 10GB of audio and 40GB of the most stunning gameplay ever + 50GB of ass whooppin'!!
blue dragon and lost odyssey ru gay? u can kept Halo, we got something better its called Haze.
this guy should die.
This game probably has more disc space devoted to audio than game data. Just look at all the 360 games that fit on a 9gb disc that still have excellent audio and great long lasting gameplay. Oblivion for instance.
WELL IT'S PROBABLY TRUE!
Jealous, You couldn't even fit the sound for Heavenly Sword on a regular DVD little lone the whole game. Looks like Sony's decision to include the Blu-Ray on the PS3 wasn't such a blunder after all hum? Try that on the 360, youd probably need about four disc to pull it off.
You can have 10GB of audio and 360 owners will have the 10/10 games :)

most XboX games fit on less then 4GB of space, Sony just achieves this much space by doing space consuming things such as noncompressing, adding little things, etc. This game might have problems with framerate and speed, because of all the information it has to read...
Xbox 1 games are less than 4gbs, Xbox 360 games are around 7-9 gbs, if the information is uncompressed (unzipped) the console just needs to read it, compressed information needs to be unzipped first. go back to ur wii.
I don't think thats reasonable anyway it is. I got 3 gigs on my PC, mainly mp3 and acc. I know it is not 5.1 but, still, 10 gigs would be arround 5 days of music, thats 120 hours of music. I think is too much.
It's 7.1 Channel Dolby HD Audio. THAT's the difference ;)

10 gigs of 7.1 is TOO MUCH. I bet this is not compressed audio - which i aint saying is a bad thing - I mean, if they dont have anything else to use that space well... its ok. But i think you can get the same quality at less size
they should use mp3 or ogg instead of wav...
i bet my stephen king - the green mile audiobook has ALOT more dialog... and you know what? As wav: 12CDs full!!!11!
As mp3: only 1 CD... 1 CD woul be boring... with 12CDs you have much more fun to listen to it!
I bet they mean wav!
10GB of MP3 would be at least 150 hours! -impossible!
It something called quality which not many can really apreciate because A) they just dont give a ***** and whatever costs less is going to be what they buy and B) to hear the difference in quality requires half decent speakers which most people dont have
most people don't go out to buy 200$ bose surround sound speakers tell attempt to tell the difference between uncompressed and compressed audio...
2 or 3 days old.
As Bob Barker would say, "That's too much!"
how could there ever be too much. so basicly ur sayin this much audio is not a good thing
nice one xDD good times with Bob Barker
It's a game. That 10 gig's is composed of voices, music, sound effects, environmental noise...all the stuff to make it more real. That means more than four sounds for sword hitting stone/flesh/ect, means more realism. It's not something you're just going to sit down and listen too--one of the nice things about Resistance was the wide variety of plain ol' sound effects that made it feel so much less contrived.
Ps3 is starting to prove its technologhy. No Xbox game Will ever have the same audio quaility as PS3.
(i wonder wat will a 360 fanboy say.)

Sweet....7.1 SURROUND SOUND. Now all I have to do is pay for a $500 + surround sound reciever that can handle 7.1 and 1080p HDMI and buy another hdmi cable to run from my ps3 to my tv. sweet if i spend another $600 + on technology I may be able to actually take advantage of this 10 GB of sound.
Lets take a look at who actually owns this kind of surround sound set up. I would say maybe 5-10% of PS3 owns the rest have the common 5.1 dobly which this 10gb of sound could be compressed into what 100 MB if that. How gay are you to brag about having 10gb of sound. Wow PS3 fanboys are so easy to please.
We aren't poor. We can afford that stuff. That's why we bought this system in the first place.
Sucks for you. I love my 7.1 and 1080p plasma.
uh I have 7.1, and know several people that do as well. Also, people with 5.1 will still benefit from this. Plus it's always good to have it as an option for further down the line when more people start buying better receivers.
Now i wanna know how much the video data is in gb :P!?
ROFL and the noobs say that BD's maximum limit will never be used. How sad...it's barely in it's first year, and amazingly has done that well already. What's next? 60 GB worth of textures? Keep it rolling...
3 1/2 hours of music, even in .wav format, can fit on 2.8 CDs (74min music/650mb per CD.) Who knows how long 4,500 lines of dialogue take up, maybe 1 1/2 hours total? Another 1.2 CDs. That's 2.6gb uncompressed stereo. If you make that 5 channel, That's 6.5gb, uncompressed .wav, in 5 seperate channels. If they somehow made that 10gb, all signs point to EXTREMELY WASTEFUL!!!!!!
I'd be curious to see if people can really tell a difference between 5.1 and 7.1 audio using side by side comparisons using the same speakers. Isn't the only difference is 7.1 has no compression? Oh and it also requires a $500 receiver for a cheap one. People without the expensive equipment won't even notice a difference.
It's easy to fill a disc with audio or FMV data, but hard to fill it with GAME DATA. I think this game will fall short in the game aspect.
Sigh!
I came here thinking I probably might request Sony fanboys not to gloat, and what do I find?
MOST OF THE POSTS HERE ARE OF JEALOUS 360 FANBOYS LIKE MCS either "meh"-ing, comparing other 360 games, saying this game will be bad in other respects, or just saying this sucks.
MCS, yesterday, you were saying your reason to come onto the PS3 forums was not what I thought it was, but you have just again proved yourself a LIAR. It seems as if your posts here in the PS3 forum are because you bought a 360, and are afraid and jealous that there are good games and good features coming out that you will not be able to get unless you spend more money investing in a PS3, and since you've invested so much of your ego in a 360, you come here to express your jealousy, outrage and fear for the 360 couched in criticism of the PS3's games and features.
On the questions of Blu-ray, 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound, etc, or do you think all progress should stop at the 360's doorstep? Do you think any innovation or new features should only be introduced on the 360? Way to express your JEALOUSY, hypocrite!
I guess you didn't bother to read the details. Seems like not many others did.. Its just laughable.
"OMG my 5 day 2 channel 1 language low bitrate MP3 collection only takes 3GB, Blu-Ghey sucks, Sony is stupid, MPS + Ogg 4 life.."
Multiple your estimate for the dialog by 11 since that is how many languages they recorded in.
Then remember that lack of region encoding allows means they probably only need master one disc for worldwide distribution.
Sure you could probably reduce the audio portion to 3-4GB if you made a disc per region.. But that still isn't leaving much room for the rest of the game assets, and they would probably have to resort to a mulidisc release or reduced quality assets if they were trying to use DVD.
March on Thinker...!!!!! but take it easy man dont waste your breath on people like MCS its just not worth the effort..
What is supposed to be the big improvment in audio with 7.1 over 5.1? No compression? Does that have any noticable improvment in quality? I never really could tell any difference between CDs and .mp3s unless played through an FM modulator.
I know 5.1 was a big improvment over Dolby Surround because the rear speakers were mono, and the center speaker didn't have it's own channel, but why is 7.1 supposedly so much better than 5.1?
Also what advantage would multiple languages have if it was in the game? I guess you might as well put it in there if you can, but who the hell cares?
I am not a liar. So I used to hate sony, but not anymore. Now I'm just skeptical and curious. Tell me why your PS3 is so great and features like 7.1 audio is worth $600.
" What is supposed to be the big improvment in audio with 7.1 over 5.1?"
ANY improvement in the scheme of things is a plus. If this game has been able to provide dynamic 7.1 surround sound, then, even if 7.1 doesn't become the next surround standard, this sets the stage for further improvements, not only on the PS3 and its games, but on all platforms. Saying that an improvement is useless is just myopic. If everybody started to think like that, there would be no progress anywhere in the world.
"Also what advantage would multiple languages have if it was in the game?"
Well, not much to the Consumers anyway, unless they were interested in a multi-lingual version in which they could listen to the game in their own native language (not all people in the US or Canada or the UK have English as their mother-tongue, you know). Furthermore, I think the biggest advantage is to the disc-pressing companies as far as production is concerned (although it doesn't necessarily count as a consumer advantage).
"Tell me why your PS3 is so great and features like 7.1 audio is worth $600."
I'll only list these once, and they are not all. I think you are already aware, you just have too much of yourself invested in a 360 to admit this fact. And that is okay, you can think the world of the 360 just because you have it - just don't criticize others for their choice of a Console, and don't try to discredit the features of another Console.
-> A powerful processor, well-equipped to handle many different tasks (and don't bother saying the RAM is less - you should be aware that even this can be handled between the 7 different cores)
-> A powerful multi-media machine - with a next-gen player (and yes, the Blu-ray was one of the reasons I bought the PS3), almost all kinds of Card slots covered, the ability to stream pictures, music and video from the PC
-> the forthcoming ability to use it as a DVR
- Games with big storage space - this comment by Mark Rein, intended to show that they do not favour any single console, can be used as reference: "Adding a second DVD to a game like UT3 would be a challenge because when playing online you might not know exactly what map you're going to be playing next and we have to be able to accommodate users of the core system. So does that mean the disc on the 360 might have a map or two less? Possibly although it is too early to tell for sure."
-> A really good gaming system - Try it WITHOUT bias and WITH an open mind, and you'll see.
-> HDMI out-of-the-box from launch, and so in ALL PS3s, not just the new ones
-> Wi-Fi out-of-the-box - regardless of what you may think, many people do prefer Wi-Fi to extending an Ethernet cable from the room that the Router is in (say the Computer room) all the way to the Living/Family/Entertainment Room, where your big-screen TV, movie and game setup have been put in place. The ethernet cable idea only stands if your computer, your router, your TV screen and your game console are all in one room.
-> Support for HD Video and HD Audio, alongwith HDMI 1.3 specifications
-> A truly Online community (Home, and you WOULD be going crazy singing its praises if this were on XBL instead of the XMB)
-> There are many other features as well. But I'm not going to bother typing an endless post while at work just to satisfy your ego. Use these links instead:

Even though the above articles are a bit old, they will let you know about the PS3 features IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW and are just not indulging in some more PS3-bashing.
Also, the PS3 is not "mine". I own one PS3. I also own a 360. I happen to think both machines are good in their own ways, and that is why I can say what I say with a clear conscience and bereft of lies and bias. Can you say the same?
"What is supposed to be the big improvment in audio with 7.1 over 5.1? No compression? Does that have any noticable improvment in quality?"
Well, if you actually did try using the blu-ray player in the PS3 and a surround system capable of uncompressed sound, then you would actually hear the difference.
"I know 5.1 was a big improvment over Dolby Surround because the rear speakers were mono, and the center speaker didn't have it's own channel, but why is 7.1 supposedly so much better than 5.1?"
Well, you get can hear sounds from the left or right side much better than 5.1
"Also what advantage would multiple languages have if it was in the game? I guess you might as well put it in there if you can, but who the hell cares?"
I agree, instead of using of dubbing everything, they could at least just use subtitles instead, however if people want to play their games in their native language, then i have no quarrel with them.
"I am not a liar. So I used to hate sony, but not anymore. Now I'm just skeptical and curious. Tell me why your PS3 is so great and features like 7.1 audio is worth $600."
Well, all the other statements you have made clearly indicates that you are mad at Sony. An example would be "oh noes I need blu ray storage now!". Are you actually telling us that you're not mad at Sony? Your definition of curiosity and spectical is misplaced, since your statements have been proven to be nothing but biased garbage.
What makes the PS3 so great? You get a great Blu-ray player (Costs a lot these days), HDMI with 1080p resolution, great games that are yet to come, DVD and PS1/2 upscaling, uncompressed sound, intergrated Wi-fi, removable S-ata harddrive (which can be upgraded pretty cheap) reliability, backwards capability, (not perfect, but improving as we speak) Free online service, Playstation Home, lot's of classical games ported to HD, 10 year support (Where as the xbox only has 5 year support, and it's going to be tough with the disc space problem for the Xbox 360) Folding Home, (By donating the power of your PS3, the standford university can find cures for illness' like Cancer etc.
Is $600 really that much of a problem? I live in Denmark and i had to pay 5000 kroner (roughly $870). If the price is really that much of a trouble to you, then why don't you get a job? It wouldn't take long to make money in order to earn one.
By the way, if you pay the $600 (the PS3 actually costs $500 now if you actually bothered to read the news here) for a PS3 now, you wouldn't have to pay as much as the Xbox afterwards. Let's see, The xbox costs $350-$400 (450-500 for the elite) plus you have to pay $50 for the Live service plus if you want to play HD-DVD's, you'll have to pay $200. And that's not even it, if you want wi-fi, then you'll have to shell out at least $80 or more. So in order to have all this equipment, you must at least shell out a total of $680, and your still missing a lot of the features the PS3 has.
I'm planning to buy a Xbox 360 when Microsoft can actually do something about the rings of death. It's almost been out for 2 years and they still haven't done anything significantly to minimize this problem...
You can't play 5.1 and 7.1 side by side with the same speakers. 7.1 has two additional speakers with their own channels.
You do have one point though, 7.1 isn't targeted towards people like you complaining about a $600 game console.
I fully expect to spend $2000 or more when I finally settle on decent sound setup. $500 for a receiver won't even get you HDMI input it will only have HDMI pass through. The PS3 is about the cheapest part of a home theater setup unless you want to compare it to individual speakers.
Wow I never knew you people could reply without insults or mentioning the 360's failure rate when it's totally unrelated.
Good job! Maybe you're not as fantarded as I thought.
"Wow I never knew you people could reply without insults or mentioning the 360's failure rate when it's totally unrelated.
Good job! Maybe you're not as fantarded as I thought."
And i propose you would stop insulting us? We're not the ones making fanboyish comments on every article here on QJ, unlike you MCS.
yeah i agree.
Let's try this. PC games can be played with a not so high end graphics cards if you turn down all your settings right. The developers still go ahead an put all the effort and make the game as bad ass as possible for those who can afford the hardware and can buy the expensive video cards. I f they had your mind set they would produce mediocre games because all the the extra textures and sound and what not can only be enjoyed by those with the money to spend on high end components. Innovation and pushing the boundaries is what it's all about. Thank God not everyone is as ignorant as you, or we would still be playing Atari.
