PS3 - Image 1QJ poster Pirate has just shared some particularly happy news for us, over at the QJ Forums. According to his post, a TIFF exploit on the PS3 is confirmed to exist. However, before we start doing cartwheels in celebration of this news, we have to point out that it has just been confirmed to exist, but the actual exploit is yet to be FOUND. Just to make sure we don't miss anything, here's the news that Pirate posted in its entirety:

The GODS @ Paradox have just shared their third release MotorStorm_USA_PS3-PARADOX this weekend, which includes a nice NFO File as promised! To quote from it:

sPECIAL nOTE:

Hmzzz i think we have news to give do we? Ever wondered why the PS3

is such a better machine than a xbox360? simply because they

implement too much stuff in one time! "SCEI" dont do that, you

need to learn a bit more from Microsoft on this part even when

they have forgotten a hypervision hack on kernel 4532 and 4548

they fixed it very fast! And what do we see on the PS3? Up until

firmware 1.51 we still see holes! Why? You guys dont have the

right persons to work with or is it just the pressure from

the big boss? So for now dont update higher than

1.51 since 1.54 hasnt yet been tested, and 1.51 had a few tiny

things fixed, but it didnt stop us much :-D Ohhh btw ever

wondered if those updates are required on a disc? Actually all

games up to now work without any update At least work fine on

1.32 :-) Thats all for now! So seeya tiff tiff and bye bye

So in summary, PS3 Devs should focus on finding that TIFF Exploit so that unsigned code can be ran, a PS3 iSO Loader, and just about anything else on v1.32 and lower... also, those who wish to play online can now update to v1.51 (since it still contains exploitable holes, obviously lower Firmware has even more though) without worry... very useful news indeed!

So... will the PS3 soon be saying "Hello World"? We'll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, feel free to join the discussion about a tiff exploit for the PS3 over at the QJ Forums.

kinda late with this and what does the pic have to do with anything.

well besides, good news indeed.

It's PS3-tan, one of the concepts for the console-tan collection. There's also a Wii-tan and a Xbox360-tan. Yes, it's a spin-off of the OS-tans.

Sweet, homebrew is nearing.

   Re: Extinction (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » Why?

PS3 lets you run homebrew already.

This exploit doesn't exist, Sony patched it in the PSP, and the PS3 uses the same code as the PSP

   Re: mohaas05 (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » what?

ps3 does not use the same code as the psp. although the interface looks alike, they are two completely different architectures.

   Re: Extinction (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » Yes

Yes, PS3 does use the same code as PSP.

Despite being different architectures, the programs themselves are coded in C++ which is then compiled to any architecture.

They did not recode things like the Tiff library from scratch, they used the same code. If you go to about system on both PS3 and PSP, it even says so.

Programmers rarely ever code the same thing multiple times, the XMB itself is running on a modified version of the same code they used on the PSX for example

I have this feeling Ps3 homebrew isn't going to work. They're going to just add little updates to keep homebrew people offline, and I like online. . . and if they make your Ps3 auto update a super small patch. . . fear o.o; (also beware downloading your store bought stuff on to other people's ps3's, I bet they can track that, along with anything else.) Unlike your PsP, they can't really, because it's not connected to them D:

c++ is a common programming language. its like comparing the original windows nt and windows vista. although they are both based on the same code, vista has been heavily recoded.

The PSP runs different code to PS3 for a start.

Second thing is that you are promoting an ISO loader basically (it's not here yet, but it will be if this is to be beleived).

The benefit of an exploit is that you will be able to play games using the full capabilities of the PS3 (I beleive running Linux on it has some form of limit or something)

   Re: cube (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » yeh

Linux has limited access to the graphics rsx thing etc... this is to avoid exploits being ran through linux to boot backups of PS3 games...
However, it means the linux on PS3 is not very powerful and my £150 laptop could probably do a better job at linux.

this is good news if true....though wont get excited until i see some true-material

well it will happen eventualy, the 360 is already cracked and open with isos and copied discs working [but you have to play offline] so lets see how much time will the ps3 take

oh...and nice pic Qj,i dont see how it relates to the topic, but i like it anyway ;)

Re: Kristine C. (QJ. NET Staff) - 2007-03-11
 » Oops

Sorry about the pic. It's actually PS3-tan (you may want to look up the term "OS-tan" in case you're not familiar with it). Basically though, the "-tans" are anthropomorphic representations of anything from operating systems to consoles. There are Xbox 360-tans and Wii-tans, and PS2-tans, PSP-tans, etc etc. We got the image in this article from here:
http://darkdiamond.net/features/tuesday-tans-ps3-tan/

You can find the other console-tans from that site, too. :)

 » Stupid

Just a matter of time before the dreaded chip is going to happen, the 360 thankfully kills this ***** when losers try to go online, BUT the really sad point is they piss around with their firmware and then cry that its a 360 fault when its really these idiots who kill their machine and who have messed up their 360, expect many PS3 owners to complain very soon..

why so we can play tetris on PS3, hav you seen some of the homebrew on psp

   Re: Demon Slayer - 2007-03-11
 » Yes

I have seen some of the homebrew on the PSP. That includes an ISO Loader, near perfect PSX emulation, decent N64 emulation, emulation for anything before N64, the ability to increase the clock speed, take screenshots, emulate firmware, and lots of other useful programs like Ebook readers and audio/video players for formats the PSP doesn't support.

You apparantly haven't seen that much of PSP homebrew if you think the best it can do is Tetris.

   Re: BL (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » To Demon Slay

I have seen that, all of that, but the ps3 isnt portable, if you're gonna do that then just do it on the computer, its way easier and you don't have to wait and you there's no chance of bricking your PC either

Clearly he doesn't know, shhhhh.
But I have a feeling the Ps3 is going to be a rough homebrew life.

   Re: god0fgod - 2007-03-14
 » sony likes homebrew

Maybe Sony have purposely added a flaw in the ps3's firmware so people can run unsigned code. Think about it homebrew made the psp polular so sony might want homebrew to exsist but to keep it interesting they generate exploitable flaws in the systems of the psp and ps3.

Isn't sony supposed to allow users to make games and sell them on the ps network? If they do allow this they will point out the fact that the only reason you would need an exploit would be an iso loader which I would assume they would be against. But really, where's the homebrew games?

Excuse me, but you are very wrong, the if the PS3 used the same code as the PSP then the TIFF exploit wouldn't exist because the PSP system software already patched that. Plus different architechures will need different coding to be able to cope with the problems of the hardware/software. Such as how x64 software will not run properly on a x86 PC. Please get your facts right before bringing it upon us and aruging to something you know eventually someone will prove you wrong with.

   Re: Negi (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » Sorry, but you're wrong!

The C code is actually extremely portable. Architecture is set at build time.

Get your facts straight.

   Re: Extinction (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
» Excuse me, but you are very wrong,

Um, no I'm not. As I said, check the about system menu, it even says I'm right, it uses the same libuntiff library as PSP.

And that's what I'm saying, this is fake. The exploit does not exist, it was patched.

And no, different architectures do not need different coding, thats what C++ and standard libraries are for.

x64 code wont run on x86 processors, but the source code when recompiled will you idiot.

Please get your basics right before making an idiot of yourself and arguing with actual programmers.

this news is probably like a week old, saw it quite a while ago

 » From that blurb...

They don't say it's is a tiff exploit, just "tiff tiff and bye bye".

This is why I wouldn't have upgraded my PS3 (had I got one...and this was really my only incentive to get a launch one, get the easly hackable consoles)

They are saying that in trying to implement too many features that they left holes...which is just common sense, the more complicated a system is and the less time you have to work on it, the more things go wrong...why do you think there was a firmware update before the thing was released :P

I definately would not be upgrading mine, and if you've updated to the newest version, I would stop now.....

   Re: lateralis (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » who cares

Ok, so even if there is an exploit why would I want that? so I can play my nes emulator on the ps3? That can already be done in Linux. The only way I can see this helping anybody is to pirate games, which in my opinion is pointless, exspecially if you cant go online. When I want to play a PS3 game I go out and buy it like normal people do that have jobs... Even if you could play PS3 ISO's it'd probably be a big hassle like the PSP.

 » i'd rather play online

I would much rather play online games with the ps3 than sit around with an old firmware waiting for someone to make an isoloader. I'll have the $60 in fun out of each game well before it comes out anyways. Maybe at that point it will be interesting, but with the linux guys working on new ways to run graphics and all of these emulators already running on linux, it really won't matter in the future.

PARADOX SUCKS. These guys make claims for a couple months, get people hyped, and they provide nothing. I could have told everyone that if there was an exploit, it would be in the form of TIFF. It's not rocket science, the PS3 uses the similar code and libraries as the PSP, hence why they play the same formats.

People give them too much credit when really all they do is copying what other people do/create (ripping ps3 games for instance) and tagging it with the -PARADOX.

Once someone does find out how to exploit this, then they'll do the exact same thing, and sadly enough, all of you will fall for it and give them praise.

Never support anything ps3news/ps2nfo is affiliated with.

How can someone find an exploit but not know how to use it?

   by Benji (Unregistered) - 2007-03-12
 » Paradox

What's the point of them releasing so many ISO's when there is no way to run them? They had their so-called ISO loader that never showed up, and now we're trusting them in that there is a Tiff exploit? The PS3 was released in November of 2006 and the exploit on the PSP was found months before that, how could it still exist on the PS3?
