If you're among the gamers here familiar with developer dragula96's work in the PSP scene, you may be in for a surprise. The coder dropped by the QJ.NET PlayStation 3 forums to announce that work has been completed on a Hello World exploit the Sony console, this time via firmware 2.20.

dragula96's hasn't provided any exact details yet, though he states this attempt was pulled off on unmodified 60GB and 40GB PS3 retail models. The dev also states that this attempt took a total of nine hours to achieve.

Before you get too excited however, dragula96 further explained that this Hello World exploit probably won't enable users to load ISO files to their PS3. What it does imply is that the console could be opened up to homebrew game programming.

The developer also enclosed a video to go with this announcement - details on how this hack was achieved and source codes are expected to be released at a later date. Those interested in joining the discussions regarding this news can visit the dev's thread over at the QJ.NET PS3 Hacks, Exploits and Homebrew Forums.

 » Okay

Thats cool and all. I hope something comes of it..

Never the less.. I dont think I'll be voiding my remaining 2 year warrantee for anything that plays better on my PSP, let alone my PC.

Homebrew on PS3 is just a useless pie in the sky "Because I could" project. It has no merit.

Never the less, the accomplishment deserves its due. So respect to dragula. I hope it goes somewhere.

Well, first of all they could remove the region lock on PS2 and PS1 games.

Looks like an Unreal Tournament 3 UnrealScript mod. Not full homebrew, sorry.

   Re: theaceoffire - 2008-03-31
 » O.O~

I can replace the sound, video, etc of UT3 with a single line of text??? with a mod???
How?

Nevertheless,
Sorry dude, nothing against you, but there are just too many fakers out there at the moment(cough*spiker*cough),
so before this hasn't been proved to be real, no reason for me to be happy.
But if this is something working, you are the hero, man.

I'll never hack my PS3. My PSP is already at 3.90 m33, and I don't even really play homebrew in the first place, so I've know need for anything like this.

   Re: ruleofwisdom - 2008-03-31
» I completely agree with you Narron

Hacking has ruin the video gaming world and for me , i will never hack my ps3, it wouldn't fun anymore, anyway i think some people hack consoles because they can't afford to pay the retail price and other just do it for the sake of it but what i really want to say is that hacking a ps3 will be useless, if anybody need cheap games then they should go on ebay or something otherwise hacking is BAD,that's just my opinion anyway, so NO CRAPPY HACKING FOR ME---> FIGHT AGAINST HACKING/PIRACY

   Re: Master Chef - 2008-04-01
 » That doesn't make sense

If you can't afford the retail price of the games, you can't afford the price of the console you need to play them...

People hack consoles and play burned games because they're cheap *****s who refuse to even shell out a petty $7 to rent the title

Hacking is cool and all for the people who just play do it to play homebrew or extend the console's capabilities as a media center, but anyone who uses it just to play "backups" of games they don't own can go die in a fire

   Re: na2rul - 2008-04-01
 » master chef

I paid £425 for my PS3

i spent at least £400 pounds on games for the ps3 alone.
Renting is NOT the same as owning.

YOU LOSE

 » Nothing to see here....

Gotta agree with the others: There's nothing in this video that proves he's executing his own code on the PS3 - it could be a mod (which would explain why he quickly moves away from "Game" when dropping back to the menus), or for all we can tell he could simply be changing the input on his TV while he pretends to press the PS button on his controller.

In other words, nothing to see here...

 » Good News, NOT!!!

So i take it now another exploit has been found, and on 2.20, then sony will be bringing out another firmware update in the next few days.... F*cking hate Firmware updates every 5 f*cking minutes.

 » FAKE FAKE, FAKER

mmmmmmmmmmmm
it dont look like a hello world app to me first of all it says
hello.PS3 World! From Dragula96!

and its blue text (it might be white and just the cam makes it look white)
it also is italicised and not in a debug text

so he has so far manage not only to create a hello world app but a hello.PS3 World! From Dragula96! (lol) and able to load a use fonts
unlikely

and its a total fake he changes the input on his tv you can even here it being pulled out

why not take another video but walk away form the tv while your recording and then turn the ps3 off
i know if i found such an exploit i would record abouts 10 mins of it from every angle so no-one can say its fake
also you can feel your way around the controller the PS button IS THE BIG BUTTON IN THE MIDDLE
dont have to look at it everytime and every faker does look at it

 » Quick to judge

You people are so quick to judge others. This may or may not be real but when all you do is bash and trash everyone that even attempts to do something positive, it makes it harder for devs to share with one another or ask for help cause everyone will scream "FAKER". I just think you people should give it a chance before casting the first stone. If it happens to be fake then O-well, live with it. This world is full of dissapointments. Hope this is real cause any step in the right direction is still a step in the right direction.

"when all you do is bash and trash everyone that even attempts to do something positive"

Uhhhh... how or fakers and hoaxers "everyone that even attempts to do something positive."?

I've been programming computers for 25 years, and I have mad respect for those that can accomplish stuff outside the parameters of what is expected But, people that pretend to do it... but can't, just diminish the real accomplishments of the true vanguard.

too bad, "the streets will flow with the blood of the non-believers" now :P

enyway, yea if it was fake, i would not have stated it wont lead to an iso loader.

amung other things, guess i cant post any updates now, ill be posting updates here(if any):

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=101317

keep an eye on that forum

 » hm?

"enyway, yea if it was fake, i would not have stated it wont lead to an iso loader."

Sure you would, it makes you sound more believable because you appear to be honest about it's shortcomings

I understand you not wanting to release your source. How about some binaries? Or even just a video of you launching your app. At least some shred of proof that this is not a UT3 mod?
   by lfcrule5times - 2008-03-31
 » ...

I doubt this is fake. If you look at his youtube videos, he has 19 other videos of homebrew he has developed (i think its his homebrew anyway). I dont think he would fake this becuase by the looks of things he is a PSP homebrew dev (again, i COULD be wrong).

   Re: Cydonos - 2008-03-31
 » ...

Weren't Team ICE also active in the PSP homebrew community? (I could be wrong?) And they just annouced a slew of fakes a couple months ago.
   by ISOHaven - 2008-03-31
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

I'm surprised no one has screamed about the BAD VIDEO signal portion of the video. He probably tried to switch PS3 units to a unit that was set on the GAME menu instead of his other unit which was on the IMAGE portion of the menu showing us his IMAGE.

   Re: xploren - 2008-03-31
 » It may be fake...

... but it also doesn't need to be. The clicking sounds give it away, but the bad signal message came out when I quit a game on my PS3 at my friend's house. He has an HDTV. So whenever I quit a game, the message popped up. So it's not out of the ordinary, in my opinion. But you can tell it's fake. -_-

   Re: SpiderX1016 - 2008-03-31
 » Umm

Mine says no signal for my tv everytime it goes back to menu..............
   by girandhistacos - 2008-03-31
 » I don't think so.

I think you're right ISOHaven... this clicking in the background sounds like he's using an A/V switch box to switch between PS3s.

He just probably has 2 set up... one with the Hello World picture and one just set up on the XMB.

   by ho-oh arabia - 2008-03-31
 » so what?

wow, a hello world. I think ill wake up when i see a noteworthy piece of homebrew. Sure it's a step, dont get me wrong, but I think ill wait for more exiting news ( and emulator or iso loader)

   by platon - 2008-03-31
 » looking great

I hope we'll see homebrew soon. I can't wait. I mean, it would be cool to start a super nintendo emulator from the game&demo menu! :D It would be WAY faster and cooler than having to load linux... So we could start the emulators directly from the main OS :D.

I hope we'll see the 1st emulator running on an exploit before summer! But I also hope that it'll take at least another year before they find an exploit to load ISOs, I don't want devs to let down the ps3 (not that they let the x360 go even if there is mods... still, not everyone wanna solder, while everybody can install a program on an HDD or flash it...)

We need a sega genesis emulator, an snes emu, nes emu, n64 emu is it's possible, psx emu if it's possible. PS2 will surely be impossible but who knows. And maybe dance mania and those kind of games? :D lol

   Re: BlacKDraGoN_ - 2008-04-01
 » O_o @ platon

what the hell are you talking about?
you dont need a ps or ps2 emulator. as long as you have any ps3 model beside the forty gig just pop in your ps or ps2 game discs and play the damn thing
   by BIH - 2008-04-01
 » Pfft!

Untill he actualy releases it, in my eyes its fake.
So dont get your hopes up!!

First off reading the thread he cant even tell us how this works?
leWith most new exploits peop explain how it works like the Zelda hack , GTA:LCS etc

Anyway untill anything is released take this with a pinch of salt!

» Homebrew = waste of time

You guys know all this time spending on hacking cideo games to play other console games is a waste, jut get a job and buy the systems and old games not hard to find. go to clifton nj and there a ols school game store who gives u guys any system game etc. for cheap price and ur good why do u have to bother, then when u hack something ur ps3 gets all messed up then you go buy a game of PSN and that game geta some virus u left off and then we buy the game then boom ps3 gets a virus just to homebrew ironic isnt it. not saying that could happen just you know using some exp. homebre wasten of time. just go on ebay or clifton nj and buy there stuff same thing. ok peace

   Re: gehx75 - 2008-04-01
 » um....what

dude, do you realize that homebrew allows for MORE than just old console emulators??

It looks like maybe the ps3 might be expolited before the 360...so I can see it now, imagine XBMC on steroids running on the PS3, to that I say TITS!!

play all yet mkb and transport from the hdd along w/ many other things....although, I agree, old console emulators are getting boring, for that just mod an old xbox and download all your roms.
