PlayStation Home - Image 1We're seeing more indications that the much-anticipated PlayStation Home service is inching closer to completion. Recent reports suggest that there will be a big update next week to take the test run to version 0.8.3 which will herald a lot of improvements.

Possibly the biggest change will be the upgrade of the user interface. It's expected that features will be made more accessible, and the virtual world should look a little lovelier.

Also, Home Items will be added for all beta users to test. In this case, it comes in the form of a bubble machine. What exactly you can do with it remains to be seen.

The Marketplace will also be opened to test the clothes and furniture which can be purchased there. This should also give us a hint of how Home's economy will play out.

We'll be keeping both eyes open for this one. Hopefully, it's as good as it sounds. More updates will be posted as they come.

Although this brings it closer to release, this part of the beta testing stage will take some time so this puts a whole dampner on the fact that we none beta testers shudnt expect to be able to download HOME anytime soon.

Depressing really isn't it :(

**this shud put a dampner on the rumour that Home is coming soon, we none beta testers though shudn't be expect.....

 » exactly...

I will give you a star... and anyway soon will be 1.0 so don't panic everybody lol.. I guess the spring date is right... so...

   Re: mreverdred01 - 2008-02-21
 » eh... idk, Somebody_PR

the current 0.7.7 update was released in November. That means in 4 months they've only gotten 0.0.6 places closer to release. And I think the update before that was 0.6.8 back in September right before the Tokyo Game Show and everyone thought that meant Home was going to be released soon, but as we all know the news at the TGS was less than happy.

Sony: Hey I got an idea! Instead of releasing an open beta lets delay it a little further so we can update the closed beta that nobody uses. This way all 5 out of 15,000 closed beta testers can play with our bubble machine!

Looks like we can expect to play Duke Nukem Forever before Sony can ever deliver on a release date.

You fail because you were the one who chose to believe that it was coming eailier than what it was planned for. It was always planned for spring so you can say anything you want but its seriously up to you if you choose to get mad or dissapointed about this.

Do you not see whats happening with Home? Their preparing it for launch basically. A lot of home will be "unlocked" like the market place and most of the features. I think there will be one more update after this one then we'll be able to go Home.

 » Man....

I must be the ONLY gamer in the world that rejoices went a developer delays a game (or in this case a service) in order to add more features or fix broken ones. I know to some it means they can't get their dose of instant gratification right when they want it but to me it says that the devs actually care about the quality of their product more than a bottom line or impatient clamoring fans.

Beside when you get down to it once its released, no one really care how long a game was delayed as long as it turns out to produce whats advertised (I.E. Halo 2).

Long story short:
Sony take you time with home,
Free radical take you time with HAZE,
Developers take you time with your games
because some of us out there still appreciate a well written game even with a few delays.

 » yes...

if sony release HOME right now without everything working properly Sony will have the worst PR ever...it's better for them and for us to wait to the final release when everyone can enjoy it in the way that Sony wants...

If I want it? a lot... for different reasons... but for some reasons I want better the in game xmb that the home... I hate quiting the game to answer a message and can't send invites...

Nobody shoud be getting HYPED for this.
it isnt all that.
Too bad testers dont stick to the NDA.
things might have developed quicker if it hadnt
been for leaks

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-02-22
 » huh?

That dosnt make any sense.. How would the development slow down because of video leaks? I dont even think that would effect it.

I'm "HYPED" about the features that are coming with home.

why should they put out more into the beta, when its going to be publisize before they want it to

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-02-23
 » They would know

that even if the info gets out they were going to tell everyone anyways. They put more weather we find out or not. Its a beta so I'm pretty sure they really dont care too much if it gets leaked.

   Re: sickboy1138 - 2008-02-23
 » @Eclipze

Actually, a Beta spokesman said they do care.

damm they havnt even intergrated tvs into the apartments yet !? on the beta!? damm i seriously dont think this game is coming out this spring i reckon its gonna get pushed back beyond summer i mean look how long it took just to put picture frames into the beta!? we might get the open beta in spring but i doubt well get the full home any time soon

I jus want an open beta or a release date... :'(

GIVE US MORE GAMES!

Phuck Home, it's just another lame cash cow

   Re: RexNox - 2008-02-22
 » Actually...

How is it a cash cow with an unknown amount of users and $zero revenue streams. This service is liable to hurt Sony in many ways.

   Re: Advertising -

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-02-22
 » tell me

I'm pretty sure their smart enough to know what would hurt them and what would'nt. If you dont like Home your basically saying you dont want half the features the we've been looking foward to.
Don't get mad just because its not releasing when you want it to, Sony will release it when its ready.
Also they'll be making money off of ad's and people who buy the house stuff in the market place.

   Re: RexNox - 2008-02-23
 » @Eclipze

No, genius there's no such thing as instant huge ad revenues (and because ad dollars are dependent upon the people who actually will see them, and there's no way a company will be able predict how many people will participate in home ad dollars from the early adopters will be slim to nil) and from what I understand the premium "stuff" for home won't be available at release.

So from the start, Home could be a real liability, i.e. the cost of thousands of people logging into your servers.

Lastly, yes, Sony is aware of what might hurt them, this is why the average PS3 owner isn't involved with Home.

I'd appreciate you thinking through your comments before you make them.

;)

   Re: mortician10101 - 2008-02-23
 » idiot

you're an idiot Kazuki...

Home is not a cash cow, it's a free download that everyone will be able to access, which will ALSO introduce an accomplishment system, and a STILL FREE more advanced server support for all online games, amongst other thing. To say things such as that prove that your pointless comments have no place on QJ. Also, More games come, HAZE, Vegas 2, Pro Evo 2008, Dynasty Warriors 6 (released this past week) as well as Burnout Paradise, Turning point and plenty more. The fact is that Game companies are smartening up and getting a hang of the whole "having to make the games work well on the PS3" thing. You shouldnt be complaining about long releases, and delayed dates, those only make the games better. So stick a sock in it already

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-02-23
 » ..

"and from what I understand the premium "stuff" for home won't be available at release."

Actually their adding stuff to purchase in this patch.

"No, genius there's no such thing as instant huge ad revenues"

Did I say anything about instant? I said they'll (they WILL meaning in the future) be making money off of ads, they (sony) said that themselves.
Another thing judging by the hype I'm pretty sure they know that more then half the people with PS3's will be on Home.

"I'd appreciate you thinking through your comments before you make them"

I'd appreciate you reading and understanding what the hell I wrote before you say I'm not thinking.

 » stop waiting for it

just froget about it. can you imagine if they kept it secret till a week before release? nobody would care when it got delayed. so just imagine you don't know of it yet
