Kane & Lynch: Dead Men - Image 1

As if the Gerstmann controversy wasn't enough, Eidos Interactive and IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is caught in another storm. This time around, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned the game's advertising campaign for its "graphic" and "shocking" display of violence.

ASA has already received 26 complaints for the print and broadcast ads for Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC). One of these is a double-page magazine spread featuring a gagged and crying woman. Another one is a television spot showing suggestive sounds of a throat being cut and a rifle butt being slammed on someone's head.

In defense of these ads, Eidos is maintaining that the ads were meant to be cinematic rather than offensive. The developers even pointed out that the gagged woman wasn't harmed in the print ad.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, which hit the stores November of last year, is already shooting a movie adaptation. If the ads were violent enough already, the movie most definitely will not be something else. Updates here at QJ.NET as we get them.

This is ridiculous, movies can have ads like this but games can;t?

well i love violence as much as the next guy, but this add is kind of extreme. I wouldn't want my kids seeing this picture(i don't have kids though I'm only 18) but just saying it is pretty extreme.

no no no you do not do it that way.
that style is trademarked by rockstar.
and no, you cannot revitalized a publicly nuked game.
Kane + Lynch has pontential but everything is lost when it destroyed a Game critics livelihood.

and unlike movies, when it comes to games people tend to dislike ones with violent sensless ads. again rockstar is not stupid to display violent games on TV this way.

what? is that picture with the 2 guys and the girl it?! thats not bad at all! there are ads/ posters/ trailers with much worse stuff than that! there are magazines with screen shots of games with people getting cut in half with blood spraying all over (gears of war) but they couldnt put THIS in it? no blood, no drugs its not that shocking at all. the whole entertainment industry is turing into what happened with kids shows. they use to be good, and actually funny and could have occasional blood, and even arms ripped off with bones and stuff showing (rockos modern life) and asses showing (who could forget about stimpy?) but these days if there was a kids show with anything like that it would make news as if there were a terrorist attack and parents would go crazy.

but back to the "SHOCKING" ad
if there were a knife slitting the girls throat, it would be one thing, but theres nothing terrible happening. this is complete bull *****. its not like the ad is going to be on nickelodeon or anything.

I say they should remake the ad except give the guy grabbing the girls neck a knife, slitting her throat with blood spraying all over and have the guy with the shotgun blowing off a huge chunk of the girls head and a dog pissing on it while somehow shooting up heroine and then see peoples reactions.

Any time some parents or weak-of-the-stomach people see one little add, they have to go and cry about it. I've seen much worse adds that didn't get pulled.

i mean come on guys those. Would you want your little sister or brother to see a crying gagged woman in a subway? or a city? I love violence and understand your opinion on movie ads and i feel the same as you guys, but the difference is there shouldn't be WAY to violent Ads in the general public view.First of all they will continuously ***** and moan. Second a gagged crying woman in an Ad doesn't help our case against idiots like Jack Thompson and those other ***** heads.
