It's quite natrual how some media would borrow elements from other media these days. Books and stories take a lot from mythology, TV show borrow many elements in movies, and the like. As such, video games do so as well, and the Metal Gear Solid series is no exception. In line with Japanese retailer Tsutaya, Hideo Kojima is doing poster boy to promote certain movies that he's advertising as those which he got influence from. Here's Kojima's top 15 picks:
If you check these entries on Tsutaya's site, Hideo Kojima clues us in on why or how these movies played a role in influencing certain elements in Metal Gear Solid. Some of them are obvious, but for the record, here are some examples:

» Im surprised that
Escape from New York isn't on this list since Big Boss and Ocelot Revolver were modeled after characters in that movie. In fact the main character is called Snake Plissken, which was the name (Plissken) Snake used in MGS2 to hide his true identity.

I don't get why you got rated down, it's true THAT'S the joke. I mean Snake looks like he has the same HAIRCUT at some points in the games.
Also I'm surprised Clint Eastwood isn't in there somewhere I always felt that kind of vibe from Snake.

» Not from Rambo?!?
Who the hell is he kidding? Metal Gear 1 and MGS1 played out like Rambo - First Blood Part 2: The Videogame.
It had the bandana, the smooth-voiced colonel, the questionable "War-Torn Jungle" locale, the POWs, the torture sequence, the no-weapons infiltration and stealth attack philosophy, the HALO drop, the female companion who dies... the f'ing mullet!! Come on, if there had just been a helicopter-on-helicopter battle, Konami could have been brought down by the government for illegal cloning.

I felt the same way, Escape From New York should have been first on the list. Especially since Snake's alias is Iroquois Pliskin.
Unless it's because Escape From New York isn't one of the films that he's allowed to promote due to company restraints?
