GTA Legends fan art by Patrick Brown - Image 1Yet again, we hear from John Koller. He's been everywhere since yesterday. He already said that he wanted Ready At Dawn back for PSP development, and now, it looks like he doesn't want to let go of Rockstar Games too. Well, who wouldn't?

Talking to MTV Multiplayer, SCEA's Koller says they're not ready to give up on Grand Theft Auto for the PSP. There's definitely room for more:

No one should sleep on that franchise. That’s a tremendous franchise for PlayStation in general. We’ve had two [GTA:LCS, GTA:VCS] that are the top two sellers on PSP right now. So, there’s definitely continued conversations with Rockstar on all their brands. That’s nothing that’s left the PlayStation family.

My, my, if Sony and Rockstar are having meetings about a new game... this gives the GTA: San Andreas Stories rumor some backing! But anyways, moving on...

True enough, most every GTA installment got released on a Sony platform - the more recent of which is GTA IV on the PS3. And speaking of which, there doesn't seem to be any bad blood about the Xbox 360 version getting its own exclusive DLC. For Koller, it's all business:

To be honest, Rockstar has to manage their business as they see fit. We’re very good partners with them. They just launched ‘The Lost and the Damned‘ for 360, so, they need to make their own business decisions. But we certainly have a tremendous relationship with them and always have.

Note that I earlier said that most every GTA installment got released on a Sony platform. Operative word: most. Because here comes GTA Chinatown Wars, and it's just about to be released on the DS very, very soon. Like March 5 soon! Here's Koller's take on the matter, and he doesn't seem to be all that bothered about it either:

It’s an interesting launch on DS. It raises some eyebrows in a lot of areas. It’ll be interesting to see how that sells.

Would be nice if Rockstar would make a PS3 exclusive addon for GTAIV to even things out. Wouldn't be the same one as the Xbox360 one but a whole new one or does the deal with Microsoft prevent them from even doing that?

And yeah another PSP GTA would be lovely, cheers.

 » That would be nice

But as most of us already knows, and QJ staff publishing an article from SCEE stating something along the lines of "Sorry we don't pay to keep games exclusive or DLC content, rather we want to use that money for new kickass franchises like Little Big Planet....etc". Seems rather unlikely we'll get any DLC for the PS3 version. Not to mention I remember MS paying an extra 50 million for all DLC to be exclusive to MS version. Then again, I haven't heard anywhere if that was a rumor or not. :P

When you have to bribe a company 50 million dollars to make DLC just for you.

 » .

I think that's what Koller was jabbing at with the "business" idea. :P The decision to make DLC for the 360 only was simply because M$ threw 50bill at them and told them to. Simple really.

 » Hmm...

I don't think I'd be very sad if I could afford that...

I'm sure if you was Rockstar and some huge corporation threw you 50 million dollars just for making a game for them, which you already got money for, you wouldn't hesitate to say no and make it. It's basically free money. Hell R* doesn't have to worry if it's a massive hit or not, cause they already got 50 million plus another 50 for it being exclusive just for having the DLC being on one system. It's certainly not a bribe, it's a business. People need to educate themselves on businesses and how companies work.

Hell if MS or Sony gave me 50 million dollars to go on forums and tell them what the fans are thinking and wanting for products, I'd sure as hell take the money and do it. It's more cash than what I got in the bank and wallet, especially it being such a simple minded, and easy task.

 » yes...YES!

Just as microsoft spent sh*tloads getting exclusive DLC for 360 last year...SONY IS MAKING A MOVE! Koller is everywhere! They're spending the cash getting actual, AWESOME games! A positive externality of this is that many other studios will take notice that the PSP and PS3 are about to make a tremendous comeback, and get on the train (without any calling from Sony).

It's happening! The year of the ps3 and psp! It's here! Heroes season 3: Fugitives MIGH ACTUALLY NOT SUCK! The PROPHECY WILL BE FULFILLED!!!!!!

» i find it funny when people use the word INVESTMENT

you should have invested in gold, land or oil.
no household equipment specially electronic will ever go up in value, they only deteriorate and lose its value. faster if you use em more.
i have these systems but i treat them as leisure appliance. and after i use em i dont count the value on em anymore. although i cherish and take care of them to prolong the life.

but it will give me endless return in the form of Entertainment. Everything and anything in your life is an investment. Even loaning 20 bucks to your friend is an investment in the friendship.

» im pretty sure this isnt the year for both systems

The PSP i think is dead i only use mine to play SNES games and when N64 is good on it ill be playing those also im pretty sure the psp 2 is gonna come out and everyone who has the regular one are gonna be pissed. The only ps3 game worth waiting for is God of War 3 thats it which is pretty sad its like waiting for the next zelda game for nintendo.

 » Now, settle down youngsters...

While I greatly appreciate Sony stepping up there presence via John Koller, most of this is rhetoric until we can actually SEE and TOUCH the product. Im not saying that he is lying, i'm just saying that there may be a history of this type of talk in the past.

First things first, we need to see a NEW hardware sku from Sony showcasing a SMALLER, SLEEKER, and smarter PSP. This will help set the precedent for new and older developers to want to support this system. As it stands now, we are just hearing a lot of talk.

Only time will truly tell.

I don't want a smaller PSP. The Slim is perfect size for me. Nice big screen, big buttons that aren't too close together and fits just fine in my pockets. I'm tired of everything getting smaller and becoming far too uncomfortable to use for people like who have large hands.
