More news from Leipzig, and coming from the Sony front, we finally hear from John Koller about the North American announcements to coincide those coming in from Germany.

160GB PS3 bundle with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - Image 1

First up: the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune PS3 Bundle. It comes with the 160GB PS3 unit (yeowza!), a copy of Uncharted, a PSN coupon for PAIN, and a DualShock 3 controller. Just so you know, the 160GB PS3 unit will have the same features as its (now puny) 80GB brother, and the only difference is the amount of storage space. The 160GB PS3-Uncharted bundle is to be sold for US$ 499.99 and will be arriving come November of this year.

There's also the PS3 Wireless Keypad that you can attach onto the SIXAXIS or DualShock 3. On top of it having a standard QWERTY keyboard, there are also two additional shortcut buttons: one that allows you to go directly to your XMB's Friends icon and another leading to the Message Box.

What's more is that there's a mode in which you can turn the entire keypad into a touchpad! Well, a rather bumpy touchpad, but a touchpad no less. In that mode, you can slide your fingers down the letters and it will display the same motion as the cursor on your screen.

The Wireless Keypad (chargeable via USB) is actually also a Bluetooth device that can connect to other Bluetooth enabled devices that can support keyboards - meaning, smart phones and other mobile devices.

I wish I didn't have PS3 or a PSP so I could grab these new SKU's.

Let me rewind that. You're saying that: You wish you didn't have one .... so that you could go get one. .....OOOO-K, then. It's a nice deal for someone starting, I'll admit. But, for just a little over $100 you can swap in a 320gb hard drive in your existing PS3. I've done that with mine, and the luxury of space is quite nice.

How about I rewind it for you....so that you may put your dumb***** head to rest.

I spent $599 on a 60 Gig PS3. Do I have to keep going or does that already destroy your argument? If I didn't have the console right now, i could spend two hundred less dollars and get a hard drive that is three times as big with a game and blah blah blah.

i also paid 600 big ones for a 60gb and I dont see why your being a baby about it? we payed the extra money to have the best system first! duh!
60gb still is the best ps3 to date in my opinion

   Re: GW2 - 2008-08-20
 » agreed

60 gig is currently the best ps3 sku, however, if its a euro 60, then it doesnt matter. its the same as an 80.

I may consider getting one too, although I already have a USB keyboard and mouse, but it would be nice to have a Sony brand one instead to keep consistency in my home.

 » cool...

well im all for bigger hdd's and that new keyboard thing looks alright. tho i bought an old ps2 controller with one built in, to play ffxi and it just didnt feel right, but it wasnt the DS3 i guess :P dunno if id get this or the wireless keyboard tho the "touch pad" sounds kinda interesting.
and a little off topic but i dont know how much i like seeing all the new hdd bundles released or not, i guess its good for new ppl but it kinda makes me wanna get a new one but ive a launch 60g and here its the best so far. but i dunno weather i should get a new ps3 (and keep both) or just get a new hdd. owell

These pics are prototypes (much like the PS3 boomerang controller). I'm sure they will put the keyboard at the bottom of the controller. I will probably buy this since I can use it for MGO and a lot of MMOs will be coming out on PS3.

 » yup

as often as u see M$ copy the ideas of develepors i think sony was smart to use this one however they shud make it liek xbox and put it at bottom i dont see how u can type with it at the top

   Re: Darthsappy23 - 2008-08-20
 » it different ...

i got the ps2 controller that had it built in and it was awckward for sure not to mention it had a 2nd usb wire coming out of it to connect to the ps2 >.< but it did get the job done much kinda like textn on a smart phone i guess lol but id like to know how light or heavy its going to be and how it will effect the motion sensitivity. i dunno which is or would be better it attached to the top or bottom of the controller, ive seen the 360 one at walmart but not on a controller so i wouldnt know much about it. i think id buy this if its cheaper than the wireless keyboard i think the touch pad sensor thing should be neat too

I still believe that a USB keyboard is the best way to go, If only I could find a Sony USB keyboard.

I know logitech make a PS3 keyboard, it even has the triangle, circle... on their corresponding keys, but its a Japanese one(so the escape key has X on it instead of O).

By the way, I am aware that any brand USB keyboard works.

Is this one backwards compatible?

   Re: core2kid18 - 2008-08-20
» i got the same question

wikipedia states that its not backwards compatible.

   Re: sickofitall - 2008-08-22
 » no, it is not

and sony has really lost it for bringing all these different SKUs out, but without any new features. If they are going to strip features on the new 80gb, why would you do the same thing to a more expensive 160gb bundle?

   Re: mr.x256 - 2008-08-24

Backwards compatible with what?

If its BlueTooth it should work on any PS3, shouldn't it?

Good job sony keep it up, i mean im not realy excited about the new 160gb model because i have the 80gb and if ever realy need the space i have my 250gb external hd or could easily upgrade my current hd on my ps3. But the keypad looks great and i love how its expandable and you can use it with other blue-tooth devices.

 » What up, SONY?

This is very wrong. why you may ask?. It's because I recently just bought a 40GB PS3, and this isn't to us guys with older model of the SKU.
I'm just saying I bought the 40Gb PS3, which cost the some price as the one SKU. Sony should introduce cheater HHD from their stores, so we can upgrade our old SKU's with bigger Harddrives.

Peace Out!

So they introduced a new bundle, how were they to know that this game would be such a hit to have done this before the game was released?

Unless this one has the 4 USBs, PS2 compatiblity, and memory card slots you shouldn't be botherd by this.

 » Warning to PS3 buyers

The new 160 gig has a 40 features!!
I repeat, it's just a 40 gig model with a 160 gig HDD!!
If you value

backwards compatibility,
card readers,
2 extra USB ports
and the chrome finish

get the 80 gig bundle now before they discontinue it!! After the new 160 gig PS3, every PS3 SKU will have the 40 gig model features but with bigger HDDs. The new 80 gig and 160 gig have 40 gig features. Get the 80 gig before these babies go the way of the 20, 60 and 40 gig models!!

Take alook at this link for the PS3 model features chart. It explains it all!!

how does the keypad work?

   Re: core2kid18 - 2008-08-21

MAGIC!

I think its bluetooth or hooking up to the controller via the USB port on the controller. In other words you might not be able to use it when the controller is out of batteries or charging. Just my guess.

 » so...

"the 160GB PS3 unit will have the same features as its (now puny) 80GB brother"

I'm thinking that statement is going towards the new 80GB PS3 thats a 40GB PS3 with a bigger HD that was announced around E3.

To Sony: There are many people that don't want backwards compatibility that will buy this model. There are also a hell of a lot of people that want it along with the memory card readers. I though the PS3 was a multimedia machine? Removing the memory card readers removes the "multimedia machine" name.

I have the 80GB and I've used the memory card readers atleast 20 times in having the system for 1 month.

   Re: mr.x256 - 2008-08-24
 » I agree.

I use the MemoryStick slot all the time for PSP and camera.
4 USB slots aren't enough for me, and I used to have plans of adding my printer to it but the slots are all taken.

Does anyone know if there are any printers with memory cards slots that work with PS3 via USB? because I reckon it could 40GB owners the memory card slots back and double as a printer.
