PSN Operations Director, Eric Lempel, has a lot of fighting words to say about the state of online service, the PlayStation Home. And it all boils down to this: there's no more fighting with Xbox Live.
That's because for him, they don't need to play 'catch up' anymore. At this point in time, stable is how the PSN can basically be described. Said Lempel in his interview with Industry Gamers: In some cases, I think we've got more, and we've got some other things they don't have. In terms of strengths, of course we're still free, and we're giving you a lot for free. It's not just free online gaming, but we've got PlayStation Home, which is a massive community and application that's totally free to use. I think there's a lot we're doing in some cases they're not doing, and I don't see a lot of things they're doing that we're not. He also said something about their "competition" with Apple, saying that they don't necessarily want to go down the path of offering various software options, particularly for the PSP, because they don't want to degrade the experience. Right now our free catalog consists of demos, wallpapers, themes and videos about games. I don’t think we want to degrade the experience you get from a PSP. Because [iPhone] is not a gaming-centric device, I think a user picks it up and says, ‘This is kind of dumb, but I don’t care because I know this device wasn’t intended for games’…. we don’t want to see a bunch of little things that don’t quite make sense or provide a good experience because I think that takes away from what the device is intended for. Then why is it when game patches and updates come out, why do I have to attempt a download 5 times only to wait 30 minutes for a 60mb file?
I've NEVER been able to download a simple patch on PSN without problems.
PSN- still not as good as XBOX live, but free
XBOX live- you get what you pay for
Nintendo's network- a complete joke to the industry

That has nothing to do with the Playstation Newtwork, that has to do with your internet connection on your PS3. Most likely the Wifi cuts more than wired but it hasn't to do with Sony's end.

If he is using Wi-Fi, then it moves as fast as molasses in December. And it does have everything to do with Sony's end when they put in an el-cheapo Wi-Fi receiver that takes nearly an hour to d/l a 100mb file while my 360 on the same wireless network (using the last gen Wireless-G, no less) can d/l that same file in about 2 minutes. And I do have a PS3, so I speak from experience. Just go to Google and type in PS3 wifi slow. Wifi connectivity out of the box, but you get what you pay for.

Wireless $100
2 Games $50/each -$100
PS3 120GB with 2 games $500
And with all the problems 360 has, they should atleast offer XBL for free.

Not sure what type of internet connection you have, but I know any updates I download from Sony install the first time.
Not only that, but they normally take less than 15 mins.
I have normal High Speed DSL internet, so I'm wondering if it may not be your internet connection.

I agree with GGCAN. Also to add to what they said, how are you connected with your PS3? Are you connected with the Ethernet cable or WiFi? I found that my WiFi and PS3 loses connectivity so, I've been using my Ethernet and my system runs great. I think you're issue could be the same or whomever your provider is, maybe having issues resolving DNS or having latency reaching Sony's servers. A lot of connection issues relate to what I just stated so, it could be as simple as a routing issues between your provider and their network reaching Sony's servers.

people should also talk about the exclusive games on the ps3 that are impossible to be done on the xbox 360, like killzone 2, uncharted, resistance 2, motorstorm 2, MAG, and some others. xbox 360 doesnt have any games that have even come close to the graphics of uncharted a 2007 game on the ps3.
