 LittleBigPlanet got a 6.3 user rating on Metacritic. My response to this was a completely reasonable "OMGWTFBBQ." Tempting as it is to lash out at the game review site's credibility, we should probably note Metacritic founder Marc Doyle's post in the user comments:My advice for our faithful users is to focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game. This is a gaming community, and if people want to stuff the ballot box, there’s not much I can do at this point. The poor scores will stand as per site policy, however, Doyle told Ripten.com that a Metacritic redesign will be coming sometime in the near future. It will include, among other things, beefed up user registration and more involved community functions to make this kind of fanboy/hater nonsense a little harder to pull off. In fairness, I haven't played the game yet so there's no way for me to know that the poor user rating is not actually valid. Still, when the critic's score is 9.5 versus a measly 6.3 (6.4 as of when this article was finished) one has to assume something other than honest reviewing is at work. Maybe this is backlash from angry gamers when Sony opted to recall LittleBigPlanet until they could fix that Koran thing? Related LittleBigPlanet Articles:

The only reason why it got so big was because of the fact that you could make just about anything you wanted. When I first saw the game it looked like it was going to be fun, but that was then. I was in the beta, and was bored after a few hours. Played a few online games, messed around on create a stage. The only replay that I can have with the game is collecting items. The only time I was excited about the game was when I played for the first few minutes (that tutorial stage at the beginning) and when I was playing the 3rd stage (?) where they started to play that "Get it Together" song.

then I believe that it would not get 9's and 10's from the critics. Some games that I think are decent are getting fours from these guys, and they gave it a 9. It is true that I don't always agree with their results, but there is something to be said when so many critics give it such a good score. It does look like it will appeal more to casual gamers though.

You NEVER have to create anything if you don't want to. It is an entire game within itself. Then, once you're done with that, you can simply start playing all the user made levels. Start with the highest ratings.

2nd: LBP is looking nice, but I'm not into those games. Still, 6.3 is a bad rating since even if I'm not into those kind of games, I can easily see why it scores so high. There were 1000+ user ratings for LBP before the recall ever happened, and the scores were around 6. Looks like it's been a struggle ever since between Sony loyalists and the rabid hoardes of Xbots who just can't come to terms with the fact that the greatest game ever made will never, ever come to their systems.

360 fanboys rated an unreleased PS3 game badly out of spite.
Nothing to do with the Megacritic's staff.
PS. I have a 360 and it's great, although I hate GoW and Halo so that limits my 360-pro's.
